  1. Hi cekuhnen, In that case you should stick using Affinity Designer which is pitched to be equivalent to Adobe Illustrator and Freehand. For me Affinity Publisher should be a professional grade publishing platform, equivalent to inDesign but in time hopefully much better.
  2. Hi Hokusai, I completely disagree with you. Let me explain. I don't want to see the Affinity Publisher to become a web authoring tool either. But we live in a different world from the one from 10 years ago. Publishers need to repurpose their content so that it can be used in epubs, web pages, etc. Unless, you want to continue living in a bubble. So, inevitably, I think the Affinity Publisher should have some bare essentials to at least export the contents of whatever it's dealing with in a html format and its style in css format. That's not too much to ask from a modern application. Publishing books without being able to wrap it up in an ePub would also be crazy in my opinion. Having said all that, lets wait and see what the Affinity team can bring to the table early Next Year and we'll take it from there.
  3. Just to add my proverbial 2 cents to the discussion about the name. I think that the name Affinity Publisher is absolutely fine. All the suggestions so far are too restrictive in my opinion. I have no prior knowledge of what's in store but I suspect that the software will also tackle the epubs, web?, etc. So, words like, page, press, proof, etc are missing the point. :)
  4. Hello Stephen_H, There is nothing non standard about the long extensions. The Affinity Team has explained their why already. Please search for their explanation/rationale somewhere in the forums. Regards
  5. By not intuitive, you probably mean that the feature doesn't work like the equivalent in Photoshop. You need to understand that this is not a Photoshop product and the designers are trying to correct the way some features work in Photoshop. I find this particular feature more intuitive that the one in Photoshop. You need to give yourself some time to learn a better way. Don't expect all features to work the same across these programs. Just because a given feature works differently it doesn't necessarily mean that is less intuitive. :)
  6. I don't want to second-guess what the developers are planning to do in this regard. I would completely understand if they decided that this is a non starter for applications costing less than £40. On the other hand, I for one, want to use the suite as a complete replacement of Adobe products, but without it it'll be very difficult. I would be prepared to pay 3 times as much for the Affinity Applications that have these facilities. Best regards,
  7. I'm hoping that the Affinity Team is working on a proper automation engine for all its applications. This is a must for any serious work and this topic was raised a number of times already in these forum posts. We remain hopeful.
  8. Hi Oval, Well, I've been in the digital publishing space ever since the Mac+ and a Laser Writer came on the scene (and even before that) so I know a thing or two about publishing software. I remember using PageMaker when it was still in Beta and I remember when inDesign beta came along (not to mention QuarkXpress). It took a good few iterations of inDesign to bring it to the Professional level. The same will happen with Affinity Publisher and other software from Affinity. Unfortunately, that's life. I am also a programmer so I know that to eradicate all bugs is just not possible but I have full confidence in Affinity folks to get it right. Also, no offence Oval, but you need to re-read your posts a few times more before posting, because some of your posts come across as very offensive, at least in this country. You can achieve much more by expressing your views in a more "friendly manner". :-) :) :) :)
  9. Chill out man, I know, the wait is killing me too, but that what it is. Affinity will always play a catch-up to ADOBE, unless they commit more manpower towards the affinity Trio. (Designer, Photo, Publisher). Remember, it's £29 a pop so it's not that they are taking your money and running away with it. The price more than fully justifies what the software represented at the moment. The professional moniker attached to the Designer and Photo is bit of a stretch at this point in time but that's the space they want to be in. I'm confident that they will get there. Until then, people who would want to use these programs professionally and break away from ADOBE, will need to wait a bit. I think that's what's killing you, right :-) :) :) :)
  10. See whether this works for you. 1. Create a new document, making sure that the Transparent Background is checked. 2. Select the shape you like and draw it on the canvas. 3. Open a new image you want to crop into that shape. 4. Select all and Copy it. 5. Switch to the Transparent Background tab and Edit->Paste Inside. That should do the trick. Please let me know whether this worked for you. Best regards
  11. Hi magicdesign, The Affinity team is actually working on something like that. The program they are working on is called Affinity Publisher and is coming in beta early next Year.
  12. I would love to be an alpha tester for Affinity Publisher (to get my hand on it as soon as possible :-) ). I have a lot of experience in the publishing field (~30 years) and would love to contribute in any way I can to make the Publisher the platform of choice of a new generations of publishing tools.
  13. Hello Daveyboi24, I suspect you need to wait for Affinity Publisher to accomplish that. The alfa/beta is supposed to come out at the end of the year. Regards
  14. Hello Herojas93 I've just opened your PDF file with the latest AD beta without any problems. Cheers
  15. Thanks for another beta. I've noticed strange bounding boxes of shapes created by the following tools: Polygon, Star, Double Star and Square Star. When you start playing with these shapes, say using the corner tool, the bounding boxes snap to correct sizes.
  16. Please keep releasing betas every week (Mondays). Don't change that.
  17. Is this a bug or intended behaviour? When you create a text box, the box snaps to the left margin but it doesn't snap to the right if you go all the way to the right margin. The same happens with the guides. It snaps to the left guide but it doesn't snap to the right if you draw a text box within 2 guides. Regards,
  18. rui_mac, I've noticed that too. In fact when you create a box and then add text to the box (flow inside if you will) then you loose all box attributes like colour, stroke, etc. I think that one should be able to control the inside margins (standoff text) as well as other positions like top, centre, bottom and top-left, top-right, etc. of the text. And of course its colour and stroke. Unfortunately, this is not supported at the moment. Regards,
  19. Thanks for your suggestion Busenitz but I don't think this works. The background colour in the Character command highlights only the text not the entire box. If you type just a word and the text box stretches the entire page, that word only will be highlighted. And that's exactly what it is. It's just a text highlighter. I should be able to colour the text box independently of the text. Of course I might have misunderstood your suggestion entirely.
  20. 1. How can I add a background colour to a text box? I know I can create another layer but this seems like a work-around. 2. How can I align a text in a text box. I should be able to Align Top, Align Centre, Align Bottom within a text box. 2. Can I lock a layer and still be able to edit it. To me locking means preventing a layer from being moved. Adobe solves this problem by adding an option in the Preferences: Allow editing when the layer is locked. (or something like that) Suggestion: The Corner Tool is great. But I would prefer it to manipulate all corners at once. What I mean is when I change one corner all should follow suit. But when I hold the Option key I should be able to edit each corner individually. Regards
  21. Any chance of adding support for WMF and EWMF files to the Designer in the near future. It would be great if we could open these windows files (which I happen to have many) without resorting to other programs. Best regards,
  22. I've been in the Graphics business for the last 30 years. I can only speak for myself, but the majority of the professional graphics companies I worked for use macs. That doesn't mean that there are no windows based graphic designers. Affinity wants to position the Designer as a professional tool and for that reason it seems to me to be a very reasonable choice.
