Apologies if this was started already as a suggestion. I think that Export Persona should be very useful in Publisher. Imagine trying to negotiate various PDF export options. Being able to PDF only certain pages or exporting pages in other formats would really be great. I know that we have Export command but Export Persona would act as some sort of Presets for a variety of exporting options. This should be a low-hanging fruit for the dev. team as most of the functionality already exists in Export Persona in Designer and Photo.

Footnotes/Endnotes

I'm sure the dev team are already working on this. -
Markdown import with autogenerating styles from that would be great.

I don't think that a half-harted approach to scripting will do. We need deep scripting integration in Publisher. While I applaud kimtorch for his basic approach in his earlier post I don't think this will do. There are number of people here that would be extremely disappointed with that. Do it properly from the start. We should be able to automate everything. InDesign is a good example here.

Text Alignment Options
Seneca replied to holmes's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
I've just posted a similar request a few minutes ago without noticing this. Towards Spine and Away from Spine is extremely useful in Styles. Imagine you want a Heading that is always away from Spine on each facing page. This is useful in annuals like Calendars, etc. I use it quite often in Church documents as well. It's very useful in master pages also. You only need to create a style for that - Folio for example (I create style for everything) and by dragging the text box to any master page it automatically switches to appropriate alignment. One could define a style for left hand side heading and right hand side heading but that's a workaround and it involved 2 formatting styles instead of just one. The software should deal with that situation automatically. A big strong +1 for this feature. -
The much improved and more feature rich Paragraph Style in AP is great, but I would like the Affinity Publisher Team to consider to also add: Towards Spine and Away from Spine to the Alignment attributes in the Paragraph Style Editor. This is extremely useful in publications that need to mirror information on facing pages, particularly in annuals like calendars, etc.

GREP find/replace
Seneca replied to garrettm30's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
I would like to add my strong +1 to get this feature added to Affinity Publisher. This is especially useful with character styles as seen in inDesign. I completely agree with the quote above by gaspar_schott. I use this feature all the time and it's just great and an incredible a time saver. In fact the problems shown above in the Polish and the Czech language could be solved by one grep rule in the paragraph style. -
The best from the best
Seneca replied to Petar Petrenko's topic in Feedback for the V1 Affinity Suite of Products
We just have to wait and see for Affinity Publisher to experiment with the way it handles styles. But I couldn't agree more with Petar that ID styles are rather sweet. -
Here, here. I hope APub can learn something for this good old friend.

I didn't mean this to become a beauty contest. I too love certain features in Quark that are not in indesign. My point was that for long documents I still favour inDesign over Quark. What I love in quark is the Ticket system where you can set up styles and all and know that you comply with the client requirement specifications. And of course there are other things in Quark that are not in indesign. I'm fully aware of that. :-) Best regards

Precisely that. Thank you.

No, I don't mean that. For example you are working on a diary. You create a paragraph style called Date. This date entry, say 25 May 2018 and each consecutive Day entry should start in a new frame. It doesn't matter whether this frame is on the same page, the facing page or the following page. It doesn't matter whether you have 1, 2, or 4 of these frames per page. What matters is that this paragraph style acts like a sentinel that tells the program to stop filling the text in this frame and move on to the next frame because it has encounter Date paragraph style. I realise that my explanation may not be adequate. Sorry.

indesign is able to thread text into text frames according to paragraph styles. In other words it uses paragraph styles as sentinels to stop filling the text in a given text frame and automatically moves to the next text frame. You can also instruct each text frame to apply paragraph styles to the text as it's being filled. As far as I am aware you cannot achieve that with QXP (I may be from of course). This is just one example and there are more.

Hello Petar, I've been very impressed by continuous improvements to QXP over the years. The 2018 edition appears to be another stupendous upgrade particularly because it'll finally have a cross platform scripting language. However, I wouldn't agree with you that it's much better that inDesign. I tried to use QXP for long document production but it still far behind indesign. I'm sure that in time it will catch up but as the things stand now, it's not better than inDesign, sorry. :-)

Yes, this has been asked for a numbers of times already but it's always good to hear it again. In other words we need it. QuarkXpress 2018 will add JavaScript for cross platform scripting. This is great news for QuarkXpress users.

Hmm, I've been working with inDesign for many years. I'm not forced to do it but I like it. In fact there nothing out there in the market that comes close to that. Some prefer QuarkXpress and that's fine too. I completely agree that it's incredibly important for Affinity Publisher to import inDesign files if it wants to compete at the top level. I also realise that it may take time to get there but I hope we are not waiting for a toy but for a competitor at the highest level. IDML files are not proprietary. INDD files are. There is a number of people on this forum for whom linking text boxes will be more than enough to make them happy but for us who have been in the industry for more than 15 years (much longer in my case since I started with MacPlus and a LaserWriter) we expect, in time, a real competitor to inDesign. And not only that, we are hoping for a new leader in this field. I hope I'm not wishing for a pie in the sky. :-)

Towards the end of the movie there was something that amounted to paragraph rules in inDesign parlance. I hope we will be able to set the Left, Top, Right and Bottom rules on a paragraph and most importantly that these are part of the Paragraph Style. Otherwise they will be pretty useless. Also, it would be super-cool if we were able to choose an element for Left, Top, Right and Bottom from the Assets Catalogue that would scale according to the paragraph height and length. And why stop there, why couldn't we have Top-Left, Top-Right, Bottom-Left and Bottom-Right places to choose elements for from the Assets Catalogue. I see so many possibilities there.

Please read previous posts here. It says clearly that it is going to be released simultaneously for both Mac and Windows and the iPad version will follow later.

I agree, it would be very foolish to read too much into that. Although, an early access into the alpha version of the product would be super cool. I think that a lot of good feedback on features that work and features that might be tweaked coming from the community would be super beneficial to the developers. Text Styles would be one area that might benefit greatly from that feedback. We've been at for for more that 30 years so we know a thing or two about that. This is just one example of course and there will be many others. Regards
