Affinity Publisher is still in beta and it hasn't been released yet. If you would like something added just post it here. It may to be added straight away or in future releases. PagePlus has a long history stretching over 25 years. Don't expect every feature found in PagePlus to be available in Publisher from the word go.

Paste Into picture frame
Seneca replied to Jenny's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
I'm afraid this command is only for pasting things from the clipboard. For example create a picture frame and an ordinary oval. Cut the oval or copy it and select the picture frame and right-mouse click on it. You will be able to see that Paste Into is available. You could copy a picture from somewhere else and then paste it into the picture frame this way but remember that doing this will embed the picture into the project you work on. This may or may not be what you want. Interestingly, the Edit menu doesn't have that command at all. You may want to report it to the developers as a bug or omission. -
Here it is a short video featuring the competing product in action. I really don't understand why people think that this must be so complicated. Publisher already needs to calculate the length of the line when you apply bold to the majority of the line. The result of the calculation is the last word going to the next line. It's not rocket science. Movie.mov

Ideally, Publisher should have a Nested Line Style feature available in inDesign. Then the software itself would calculate the first line length and would then apply a given style to it. Anything else is bound to be inefficient and error-prone. This area of nesting styles is terribly underpowered in Publisher at the moment compared to what inDesign and QuarkXPress can offer.

Publisher doesn't like Moby Dick in columns
Seneca replied to fde101's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on macOS threads
Works for me too. Copied MD text from a Web page (Safari) and pasted straight into a 2 column text box. Autoflowed the rest to 790 pages. It took less than a second. -
Affinity Publisher Public Beta - 1.7.0.145 (Mac)
Seneca replied to AdamW's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on macOS threads
I'm not sure what you mean or whether I understand what you want to say. I've just created a doc with 6 pages. Created a text box on page 1 and 6. Linked those 2 boxes and added 'Previous Frame Page Number field to the second box. The Previous Frame Page Number added to page 6 gives me page 1. The Next Frame Page Number added to page 1 gives me 6. -

Pages Panel Double vs Single Click
Seneca replied to gpollar's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
Usually, single-clicking means - select, double-clicking means - action. So in this case, I think, that when you single click the page you want to select it whereas by double clicking you want to more (action) to that page. Also, by single clicking, that is, selecting a page you may want to change certain characteristics of a page, like its margins, or add a section break, etc. You wouldn't necessarily want to move to that pages straight away. I hope that makes sense. -
I don't think you can at the moment. But the latest Apple Numbers application has improved charts creation tools and if you copy and paste your graph from Numbers to Pages you will get a great quality and result. And you can further edit it in Publisher if you wish.

Well, that might change if we get inline graphics support somewhere down the line. -
No Margins command in Document menu
Seneca replied to JDW's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
Well, you can right click on the page's thumb and select Spread Properties. You don't need to go to the master spread to change the margins there. -
No text import, no XML
Seneca replied to BellesLettresMagazine's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
Nice to have you on board but you should have checked what other people have already said about missing functionality in Publisher. Everybody is aware that Publisher has some way to go to reach feature parity with other more established software. Rome was not built in a day. I'm sure you will be able to contribute constructively in your posts here. -
Be able to hide a page
Seneca replied to Jonashellsen's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
You are absolutely right. The export dialog allows one to select pages to be PDFed. So, really, no need to worry about hiding a page to exclude it from export. One can PDF pages one needs. -
Be able to hide a page
Seneca replied to Jonashellsen's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
Hiding pages makes sense only if they are not facing pages, I suppose. The best way to handle this scenario is to have an option for Pages to PDF in the Export Dialog. What we already have in the print Dialog. -

This most certainly would be a very useful option. -
Where are the abbreviarions stored?
Seneca replied to SirPL's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
Maybe the developers could add Import and Export buttons to Preferences >Abbreviations. -
I have a different view on this. I don't work for Affinity so I can't say it for certain, but my feeling is that the initial release as envisioned by the team was not meant for long publications. The Long Document features would be added at a later stage. Problem is, people expected this feature from the word go. This has nothing to do with the team being more transparent. I think the devs and the Affinity Team are transparent in as far as they can be. Anyway these are my 2¢.

There seems to be a small problem with updating section names within the Section Manager Window. The Section Name changes only when hitting either the tab or the return key. If you close the window with Close button nothing happens. It seems to me that the close button should register the change automatically. Screen Recording 2018-10-14 at 15.07.35.mov See the video.

Text insertion and text frame boundry
Seneca replied to Chris26's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
This might be coming from the Word document. That's why it's very important to understand that the Word files carry with them formatting instructions, unless you save it as .rtf or .txt file.
