Snap to Baseline request
Seneca replied to rogershuff's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
I think you should be able to accomplish that with styles. Create a style so that the first line snaps to the base line grid. Uncheck this option for other styles in your document. Edit: I've just realised that if a first line is part of a paragraph that spans across a number of lines my suggestion will not work at all. -
Guide Lines, Drag values from point zero
Seneca replied to HGF's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
I agree here with @Old Bruce that everything should be relative to the Origin Point. If you move it, it should be reflected in the Guides Manager and everywhere else. Basically, the Zero Point should be the only source of truth for where things are in the Publisher universe. I have reported this to be a bug, but there may be others who've done that too. -
Automatic text windows in master
Seneca replied to Cap's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
I've worked on diaries and calendars where I need more than 1 main text flow per page. In fact I needed 5. It would be great if Affinity team managed to come up with something that would allow us to have more than 1 story flowing through the pages. That would really be awesome and would set apart this app from the others. -
Apply Style then next Stile
Seneca replied to Seneca's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
Thanks @Old Bruce I completely missed that option. -
It would be great to be able to apply a Text Style then the next Style in Publisher recursively. The competing products offer that option and I find it extremely useful. We already are half-way there with Publisher. We can already designate Next Style for each current style. What's needed is being able to apply them recursively.

saving text styles on a file?
Seneca replied to Mandu's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
You could save a doc as a template and use it for your new job as @Old Bruce suggested or you could save a Publisher document with all the styles you need and then simply import these styles to your new document. The Import Styles ... command will allow you to import the styles from any Publisher document. -
Missing nested formats
Seneca replied to Mezzo's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
A one liner like this is not a good example of using a table, in MHO. You could, of course, use a table here if you wanted to but it would really be an overkill. The example above is mostly used in catalogues where each product has its own line of specs. In a book catalogue you could have Number of Pages, Dimension, Price, etc. In cases like these automatic paragraph styles are a god-send. You only need to deal with text and nothing else. Whether you prepare your text outside of a publishing application or not you can format the entire text in one fell swoop. Of course one could use a script to format all the tables, if a given application supports, it but that wold be an extra step and potentially a lot of extra steps. In cases where a catalogue calls for a number of lines per product a table might be a better solution. -
Field Functionality--Is is working yet?
Seneca replied to Michael117's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on macOS threads
This is quite bad. This has bothered me for a while. We don't have any visible feedback that something has changed, unless the field has been populated earlier. I think a better alternative would be to have some sort of <field name> inserted into a text frame and then replaced with real text when the field has been populated. This is how it works in inDesign. Obviously, this lack of visible feedback freaks a lot of people out. -

This is an often requested Publisher feature on this forum. Nobody knows when it is going to be implemented though. -
Update TOC Causes Text Style to Revert?
Seneca replied to Mr. K's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
You need to work with Styles. TOC creates its own styles so you need to modify these TOC Styles to suit your needs and then when you update TOC it will/should apply the TOC Styles unchanged. -
Automatic text windows in master

I hope you mean text frames. That's not possible at the moment but this feature is being worked on and will be released in a future beta version. -

Yes, it's too cumbersome to work with the locked layers at the moment. InDesign and QuarkXpress offer better alternatives. What I wold like to see is to be able to select a text frame, for example, and the layer pallette would automatically reflect the selection. You could then switch to the text tool and make your changes. Also, as suggested upstream, we should be able to double click the locked text box to start editing the text. InDesign offers an option to Prevent Selection of Locked Objects, which I never enable. So all locked objects are selectable by default but still locked in place.
-
The Find and Replace option is fine if you mean to perform a search on the entire text. Very often though I need to perform search on a selection. That's currently not possible, as far as I know.

Point is, the checkbox and the Menu are out of synch. Please check out the pictures at the top of the thread..
-
You are right! I swear I tried it before and it "didn't work". I work with inDesign and I find this feature invaluable. Obviously, for some strange an unexplained reasons I didn't realise that it was working already. Brilliant.

That would be very flexible indeed. Maybe we should have 2 modes. Simple mode and Advanced mode to set the guides more flexibly, like what we have in Grid Manager. But then we would also need to save these presents out.

Check Decorations section in the Paragraph Style.

I would like to be able to lock an object in place to prevent from accidental move and still be able to edit. I'm thinking of being able to lock a text frame for example and still able to edit the text within it. Or being able to lock a box and still able to its colour.

Two more issues: 1. The guides don't reflect the position of the Ruler Origin. If you change the Ruler Origin the guides still reflect the position from the top left corner of the page. 2. If you want to change the position of a guide by typing another number, the reverse text is in black and so you can't see what you are typing.

Columns in .192 -- WAS: Columns in .157

Check you Preferences > User Interface. You should be able to increase the number of decimal points shown there. -
Scrolling up past first page
Seneca replied to Seneca's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on macOS threads
Sorry, my bad. Same on Mac. I assumed that whether Clip on Canvas was enabled or not it would prevent you from scrolling past too far. If it's by design then this is not a bug but a feature. -
You can scroll up past the first page way too far. This is a regression because it was fixed in an earlier beta.

The Show Grid menu and Show Grid and Axis Manager are out of synch. First select Show Grid from the View menu then go to Grid and Axis Manager to see that the Show grid checkbox is out of synch. When you click on it, it seems that it is kind of confused as to what state it should be in.
