  1. This is a great addition, but unfortunately, changing the size of the gutter changes the size of the whole text frame too.
  2. The only way to put this feature on the map, as it were, is to ask for it. So, I would encourage you to post officially request for it in the appropriate Designer forum.
  3. That's indeed possible. My point above was that there is no way of changing the gradient direction from that dialogue. One has to go somewhere else, to the gradient tool, to change the direction of the gradient in the text box.
  4. I disagree strongly with this sentiment. I think that the IDML round trip is of utmost importance for Publisher. People who would want to try it out but are not sure whether it's capable enough can export IDML file and continue working in inDesign. Without this capability a lot of people in the industry might not even want to try it out.
  5. What's stopping you from rotating a copy of that line to get its right size from the horizontal or vertical ruler or indeed from the Transform Window.
  6. This is certainly not my experience. You can download the latest beta and see whether that makes any difference.
  7. The same limitation applies to text boxes. You can't create a gradient fill other than from left to right (or right to left) from Text Frame General Fill. This seems like an unnecessary restriction.
  8. Strange I don't have that problem on my MacBook Pro 2017 with Metal enabled and Catalina installed.
  9. I did check the character formatting and it was all well. I then realised that there might be some formatting applied to the text box. This fixed the problem. I should have checked that before sending my comment above. However, there is one more thing that might be of interest to you. If you create a table of contents and then run Find and Replace on the whole document (that would include the TOC) then you can't update the TOC anymore (if changes are made to the (TOC). This might be by design but it seems to me that it's kind of counter-intuitive.
  10. There is definitely something wrong with the TOC. If I delete it and then create a new one the new TOC is all bold.
  11. Here's a short video to illustrate the problem. baseline_grid.mov
  12. Thanks, well, I'm on the latest beta and the baseline grid applied to the text boxes on master pages is not visible. 1. Create a new file so that you only have 1 page. 2. Switch to master pages and create a text box. Enable baseline grid. 3. Switch to the only page and the grid is not there. 4. Add a couple of pages and the grid will be visible on those 2 pages but not on page 1. 5. Switch to Maser Pages and change the grid spacing for instance. That is not reflected on the pages that have grids. 6. Create a couple of new pages and the new grid settings will be there. Very strange. To me it looks as if the changes on Master Pages are not picked up by ordinary pages.
  13. @Old Bruce, I just realised that we might be talking about two different things. I'm talking about baseline grids applied to the text boxes. Your picture above shows grids and not baseline grids.
  14. In that case we should have some sort of visual separation between these two categories if indeed this is the intent. I doubt it though.
  15. Hmm, I don't see baseline grids on pages whether it's Open GL or Metal.
  16. A slight misalignment of fields in the Hyphenation Dialog. I don't think it makes sense for the last 4 entries to be shorter than the rest.
  17. The baseline grid in Master Pages is not shown on document pages. For example: Create a new document. Jump to the Maser Pages, create a text frame and enable the baseline grid. Jump out of Master Pages to any page. The baseline grid is not show. But if you add another page then the baseline grid is then show. If you modify the baseline grid on Master Pages the modification is then not shown. In other words, the baseline grid on Master pages is not in synch with the baseline grid on the ordinary document pages.
  18. It would be great if Publisher was able to convert straight quotes to typographic quotes while importing .rtf text. At the moment this doesn't happen. Even if Straight Quotes to Typographic Quotes option is enabled in the Preferences. inDesign does it automatically and this is a great help and time saver.
  19. Yes you can. @CPC simply warned you that if you do that your text won't be editable, but you can manipulate each letter to your heart's content.
  20. If you are the only person working on a book, then there is very little or no value in having a book facility in Publisher. If you have a team of people working on a book then that facility is rather important. If you split your book in chapters then you can easily PDF each individual chapter and put the chapters together at the end. You should be aware that the latest Publisher beta has an option of importing other Publisher documents. DOCUMENT -> Add Pages from File ... This feature is still quite buggy but you can start testing it and submitting bug reports in Publisher Beta forums. Finally, this is not a must have feature, by any means, especially now that we can import other documents, unless, like I said earlier you produce books in a team.
  21. I would like to congratulate the Affinity Team on the latest implementation of Master Pages and how you handle migrations. Earlier I had to manually relink text boxes each time I changed a master page of a given page or a spread but not any more. I created a document with 4 independent stories running across each master page and the text boxes on each page were relinked automatically. In other words the links with the previous spread and the consecutive spread were not broken. This also applies to spreads with mixed master pages. That wasn't the case before. Love it.
