I would say that Publisher is not ready for certain Pro jobs yet. I used Publisher to successfully layout a few books that didn't need footnotes, etc and the result was superb. You need to evaluate each job individually though. I have my own list of missing features but I can't expect them to appear all at once. I use GREP Styles and Nested Styles a lot in inDesign and these together with User Defined Text Variables are things that I miss most in Publisher at the moment.

I'm not sure what's your problem. Affinity Publisher gives you all the tools you need to get what you want. And don't call stupid things you don't understand as this may backfire.

Hello Dave, Two issues with the text boxes on master pages and how they interact with pages (.523): 1. Baseline grid is not reflected on the pages. If you enable baseline grid on master pages the existing pages don't get that. If you create new pages then they pick up the baseline grid. But when you change the baseline grid settings then that's not reflected. The baseline grid doesn't propagate properly to the pages. 2. If you pin any graphic on text frames from master pages that works. But once unpinned they remain part of the Master pages group and cannot be selected any more. One has to detach it and delete it. So the graphics that was created on a page is not selectable any more and doesn't belong to that page. This clearly is a bug too. Once unpinned the graphic should be taken out of the Master pages group and be part of the page as before. inline.mov -
This feature was discussed at length here in this forum. Just search for this term. It's not a must because not all competing programs have it, QuarkXPress is one of them. On the other hand a lot of people would cringe at the fact that people distort glyphs (scale them ) to achieve as you call it precise justification.

I think this is a great idea. The more people talk and share the knowlege about Affinity products the better. Will subscribe shortly.

Thanks Dave, Could you also please have a look at the baseline grid enabled on master pages text frames. This baseline grid is not reflected on ordinary pages. -
I would most certainly consider it a bug. If I crate a template document and then update it with a new picture I want the new picture to obey the rules of the frame and not the other way around.

Well, I did reset all Publisher options and still no luck. I hope it's not only me that has this problem. -

Thanks @Old Bruce, maybe I should reset my Publisher installation to see whether that will make any difference. -

Hello Dave, Here is a short video demonstrating the problem. You can't attach anything to the text frames coming from master pages whether it is a graphic element or another text box. This is on the latest Publisher beta. textbox.mov -
That's a very weird point of view. Serif folks don't advertise their software as a replacement for anything. Yes, certain things are very important to the professional community and these will be implemented as soon as possible. In an ideal world everything should be perfect from day one, but, fortunately or not, we don't live in an ideal world (yet).

It's not in Affinity's interest to keep these things from users. Maybe you didn't know about it, didn't watch the tutorials or read the documentation. :-)

I beg to differ. Clearly, you are used to destructive cropping, well, get used to the non-destructive cropping.

Why should this be crazy. I think it's very logical and clean.

I may have misunderstood the thrust of the main post here but even Adobe are reconsidering the way they treat layers. They find their global layers a mess and want to switch to per artboard layers copying Affinity. They "discovered" that the per artboard layers are more logical and less messy. Again, I might have misunderstood what Adobe want to do but it seems to me that not all people find the per artboard layers a problem.

Thanks Dave, Unfortunately all this only works if you create a text frame on the ordinary page. If you want to attach anything to the text frame created on master pages Publisher crashes immediately (the latest beta). Click on float with text then unklick it and publisher will crash immediately. This will also happen if you click on Inline in Text. This has been a long standing problem for Publisher. I mean text frames created in master pages and how they interact with objects created on ordinary pages. -
