  1. It seems that it's not possible to lay out data merge structure in Master Pages at the moment. I'm not sure whether this is a bug or simply not planned at all. It would be a very powerful thing to be able to create a number of page layouts using the Data Merge Node box in Master Pages and being able to change the layout of the merged page at will later. Basically a combination of Smart Master Pages + Smart Merge = a very powerful feature for catalogues, etc.
  2. Data Merge Node box maintains snapping of its contents (text box or a table) when you start from one cell. But if you create rows and columns first and then add a text box ( or a table) the snapping doesn't occur. EDIT: I was wrong. I didn't test this feature enough. No snapping takes place even in a single cell. I think that snapping is desirable though so I will put this forward as a suggestion for future improvement. MergeSnap.mov
  3. Revert Defaults button doesn't reset the Data Merge box to its initial state. (for me)
  4. I have just tested it and it works for me. I had to reset Publisher to make it actually start on my computer. Regards
  5. Hi MEB, I've just done that and it started. Will start testing now. Thanks
  6. Unable to launch Publisher. It starts with a Welcome Screen but then it stops. ๐Ÿ˜ž I'm on macOS Big Sur Version 11.0 Beta (20A5384c)
  7. If memory serves me well this is available in VivaDesigner. This is quite a useful feature and I would encourage you to submit it as a suggestion and who know it might be added to the program in the future. I too, thought about it a while back but never submitted it as a suggestion.
  8. Why? It's the answer given consistently by all the members of the team. And it's the answer you do not want to accept.
  9. Absolutely right and this point needs to be reminded to those who hope to get a faithful rendition of any inDesign file in Publisher. However, I also think that it's of vital importance that Publisher exports its files in IDML format as well. IDML has become the cross platform file format between Publishing applications. To be able to open a file created in Quark or inDesign or in VivaPublisher or Publisher on any if these platforms, however inaccurate, is a win win situation without any question.
  10. I had a quick look and you are partially right. The Column Guides are created but the view is not refreshed so you don't see the guides on the screen. To see them you need to create a Horizontal or Vertical Guide (then delete it) and the screen will refresh to show the Column Guides. Definitely, it's a bug you should report and it might be a Mac bug only.
  11. I was thinking about it as well and came to a conclusion that the margin and bleed colours should live in Preferences. And the per Project colours changes should be where they are now.
  12. One thing that is missing from your list of improvements is: Additional improvements regarding IDML import. This beta is able to open an IDML file which up until now Publisher, including 1.8.4 release, wasn't able to deal with (immediate crash). ๐Ÿ‘
  13. The short answer is yes, the longer one is it depends. However, only you can answer that question adequately by testing the software and testing it again. Don't rely on anybody's opinions in this matter because each company/users have different expectations. So once again, test, test and test again. Once you do that you will arrive at own conclusion which is the most important one. Practical suggestion: recreate your newspaper with Affinity Publisher (try to test Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo as well).
  14. Here's a screencast of the problem areas I found. The arrow is the one showing no difference between the Miter Join and Bevel Join when object gets expanded. Going inward there is some difference there. I'm also including the Designer file with objects I played with. This is a hit and miss situation at the moment. Some objects seem to work OK some don't. The more complex ones are more problematic. contour.mov Contour.afdesign
  15. You could try to test the latest Designer Beta 1.9.0.* release. You can search for Select->Select Same->Same Stroke and see how that makes selecting same strokes easier.
  16. Is there a reason why Presets were not included in this release of Designer like we have in Photo Beta 1.9.0.196?
  17. There is no visible difference between Miter Join and Bevel Join when using Contour Tool on an object (second and third buttons). Also these buttons are not sticky like the corresponding buttons for Cap and Fill in the Contextual Toolbar.
  18. My 2รง. To avoid any further confusion what handle to use when manipulating text boxes, Affinity should consider removing the Sizing Handle from ordinary text frames and only leave it in Artistic Text frames.
  19. You could rename it to Dynamic Studio Set and keep it along the well understood and used Studio Presets.
