It seems that it's not possible to lay out data merge structure in Master Pages at the moment. I'm not sure whether this is a bug or simply not planned at all. It would be a very powerful thing to be able to create a number of page layouts using the Data Merge Node box in Master Pages and being able to change the layout of the merged page at will later. Basically a combination of Smart Master Pages + Smart Merge = a very powerful feature for catalogues, etc.

Data Merge Node box maintains snapping of its contents (text box or a table) when you start from one cell. But if you create rows and columns first and then add a text box ( or a table) the snapping doesn't occur. EDIT: I was wrong. I didn't test this feature enough. No snapping takes place even in a single cell. I think that snapping is desirable though so I will put this forward as a suggestion for future improvement. MergeSnap.mov

Affinity Publisher Customer Beta - 1.9.0.796

Unable to launch Publisher. It starts with a Welcome Screen but then it stops. ๐ I'm on macOS Big Sur Version 11.0 Beta (20A5384c) -
Absolutely right and this point needs to be reminded to those who hope to get a faithful rendition of any inDesign file in Publisher. However, I also think that it's of vital importance that Publisher exports its files in IDML format as well. IDML has become the cross platform file format between Publishing applications. To be able to open a file created in Quark or inDesign or in VivaPublisher or Publisher on any if these platforms, however inaccurate, is a win win situation without any question.

Column guides doesn't work
Seneca replied to Herojas93's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on macOS threads
I had a quick look and you are partially right. The Column Guides are created but the view is not refreshed so you don't see the guides on the screen. To see them you need to create a Horizontal or Vertical Guide (then delete it) and the screen will refresh to show the Column Guides. Definitely, it's a bug you should report and it might be a Mac bug only. -

I was thinking about it as well and came to a conclusion that the margin and bleed colours should live in Preferences. And the per Project colours changes should be where they are now. -
Affinity Publisher Customer Beta - 1.9.0.742
Seneca replied to AdamW's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on macOS threads
One thing that is missing from your list of improvements is: Additional improvements regarding IDML import. This beta is able to open an IDML file which up until now Publisher, including 1.8.4 release, wasn't able to deal with (immediate crash). ๐ -

Looking forward to testing them all. -
The short answer is yes, the longer one is it depends. However, only you can answer that question adequately by testing the software and testing it again. Don't rely on anybody's opinions in this matter because each company/users have different expectations. So once again, test, test and test again. Once you do that you will arrive at own conclusion which is the most important one. Practical suggestion: recreate your newspaper with Affinity Publisher (try to test Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo as well).

Designer 1.9.0.2 โ Contour Tool
Seneca replied to Seneca's topic in [ARCHIVE] Designer beta on macOS threads
Here's a screencast of the problem areas I found. The arrow is the one showing no difference between the Miter Join and Bevel Join when object gets expanded. Going inward there is some difference there. I'm also including the Designer file with objects I played with. This is a hit and miss situation at the moment. Some objects seem to work OK some don't. The more complex ones are more problematic. contour.mov Contour.afdesign -

Affinity Designer Customer Beta (1.9.0.2)

Is there a reason why Presets were not included in this release of Designer like we have in Photo Beta 1.9.0.196? -
There is no visible difference between Miter Join and Bevel Join when using Contour Tool on an object (second and third buttons). Also these buttons are not sticky like the corresponding buttons for Cap and Fill in the Contextual Toolbar.

Small Text When Linked
Seneca replied to jmcw's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
My 2รง. To avoid any further confusion what handle to use when manipulating text boxes, Affinity should consider removing the Sizing Handle from ordinary text frames and only leave it in Artistic Text frames. -
Affinity Photo Customer Beta (1.9.0.195)

You could rename it to Dynamic Studio Set and keep it along the well understood and used Studio Presets. -
