  1. This is probably a bug. However, in general, it's considered bad typography to leave text so close to the numbers. InDesign and Publisher have a way to define a standoff between the text and the numbers. Publisher accomplishes this by setting the Right Indent and Last Line Outdent Paragraph Options. A possible bug I discovered quite a some time ago is that if the line just fits in with the page number Publisher will try to leave it alone, irrespective of the stand off defined in the paragraph style. I've included a small sample file and a short video demonstrating it. TOC Length of Entries.afpub TOC.mov
  2. Hello @CM0, obviously this is for Tim and the team to answer but from what I understand the UI controls are going to be part of the release.
  3. I hope you are aware that double-clicking on a panel's name will minimise that panel.
  4. It's been a year since this progress report was posted by Tim. I wonder whether we could have another one soon. 🙂
  5. I would define Character Styles for Bold, Italic, etc. in Publisher and would find and replace all occurrences of the above with the character styles you defined earlier. That would take you only a couple of minutes. Once you've done that you are free to apply any paragraph styles etc and the character formatting will remain unchanged.
  6. Me neither. However I get an immediate crash doing: Notes Panel -> Reset Document Settings to Factory Defaults on 1 August Jr Corrected.afpub file. Publisher Beta 2.4.0 (2279).
  7. I've just checked my PDF files exported with previous beta version and indeed the problem is there. Funny I didn't notice it then. 🙂
  8. The new beta has introduced transparency issues when creating a PDF to: PDF for Print , PressReady or PDF-X4. I've attached two PDFs, one done in 2.3, and another done in the latest beta for comparison. 2.3: transparency_good.pdf 2.4.0.2256 transparency_bad.pdf Original sample file Transparency.afpub
  9. Surely, scripting will not help with importing tags if there is no tag import/export support in the software itself in the first place. So rather than asking for scripting support for tags you should be asking for Tags import, export support in Publisher first, like what we have in inDesign and QuarkXpress. Then scripting will expose all that capability to us users/scripters and you can craft your script in the way you described above. Personally, I don't think you sound harsh, you want to make sure that we have that capability in Publisher as well, which I sincerely hope so too.
  10. Documentation and all the rest that goes with it is very important upon the release of the product. However, there is value in including this functionality early in the beta cycles of the product(s). Even if the scripting is not ready and missing a lot of functionality. It doesn't have to be part of major point releases until it's actually release worthy. Those of us who would love to experiment with it early would send an invaluable feedback to the devs, which in my opinion is as important as the release itself. And those who love living on the edge would start using it early in live projects and learn what works what what doesn't.
  11. If you insert a figure space in the text, the majority of the fonts on my system, except Arial and a few others insert 0 in there as well as the figure space marker. This behaviour was in 2.3 and possibly in earlier versions. I have not way of checking that though. I wonder whether this is only specific to my setup. Please see the video: figure-space.mov
  12. I definitely prefer the way inDesign handles it. The chances of having the first letter of a word with a character style to be different from the rest of the word are rather slim. I call it more intelligent design. 🙂
  13. I wonder whether this is only my problem but when clicking on Normalise Break on Copy in Plain Text in the preferences Panel doesn't stick across program launches. I don't want to reset my preferences in case this is a real issue for other as well. I'm on MacOSX Ventura 13.6.4 Here's the video to illustrate what I'm seeing. retain.mov
  14. This is quite an edge case but changing the initial letter in a word with a character style applied to it does not retain the style. Changing a letter inside the word or selecting it and retyping it from scratch retains the style correctly. Changing the initial letter in a word with a character style at the beginning of the paragraph works correctly as well. This applies to other character styles like Bold, Bold-Italic, Small Caps if one has them created in the Styles Panel. Please see a short video illustrating the problem. char-style.mov
  15. You can easily switch from Designer to Publisher by going to File->Edit in Publisher.
  16. Thanks for checking. I wasn't able to check against previous versions. Don't keep them around.:-)
  17. I noticed an unusual Text Ruler Jitter when a document has more than 1 page with 2 or more columns. The Text Ruler tried to jump to the first column. Strangely, one page doc doesn't display that behaviour. This only happens on the Text Ruler of second column. Attaching a sample doc (can be any doc with more than 1 page really) and the video showing the problem. text-ruler.afpub text-ruler.mov
  18. Any progress report on this front is more than appreciated. From what I know a lot of new development in inDesign is done in JavaScript, so I'm not surprised at all that JavaScript is performing so well in Affinity apps too.
  19. I came across a document with a large number of Paragraph Styles. When trying to find and replace them I realised that the Find Paragraph Menu doesn't scroll and is limited to the height of the screen. I didn't try this on Character Styles but I'm sure it's the same. Im attaching a sample document for someone else to try whether it's my setup that causes it or it's a limitation that should be addressed. find-para.afpub styles.mov
  20. I don’t think that any artificial limit on a number of decorations one can add to a paragraph style would be any good. I remember when Publisher beta was released I tried to see how many decorations I could add to my paragraph style and I remember I arrived at 1024 and kept going. Nobody will ever use that many decorations but it’s good to know that there is no limit. What’s more important to me is being able to name a given decoration. At the moment a Decoration 1, Decoration 2 etc doesn’t say anything what it does unless you selected that option from the menu and look at the panel.
  21. Create a curve, a line. etc. Add a point on that curve with the Node Tool. Right mouse-click on the added node and select Break Curve. You are done.
  22. I also experienced unusual flickering when working with the latest Publisher beta but when switching to either Low Quality or High Quality option the flickering went away. Unfortunately, I can't remember whether this type of flickering took place on earlier betas. I'm on Ventura 13.6.3.
  23. Open the Layers Panel and unlock Gathering Music – North layer and the table will be editable again.
  24. This is really great. If only we could save our search and replace options that would really be great. My work is such that I need to find and replace the same text over and over again. Saving frequently searched regular expressions fields would be awesome.
  25. I remember this bug was fixed earlier but it seems that searching for Pixabay stock crashes Publisher again. This happens if you try to go to the very end of a larger selection and try to scroll it quickly. I'm attaching a few crash reports to hopefully help locate the cause of the crash.
