    • ALT + Drag select Ignores initial object or layer below cursor. But after selection, ALT + Drag select actually copies the object but this operation is already added to CTRL with Snapping option, that could be turned off with Alt key again. So instead It would be nice If Alt + Drag Select does the same "Ignores initial object or layer below cursor" operation, without going outside of the current selection

Why not just separate and edit each picture as separate Layers in one Affinity document

You can then use the export persona to batch export all the different Layers (pictures) to jpg,png,tiff... files

It is doable until exporting all layers. because this file is from PDF and it is also a bit technical; it has pictures, tables, text and numbers... so I can edit the picture, crop it by masking etc. but when I want to export it is not that fast and easy, either I have to create a slice for many pictures or hide the layers that I don't want to export, or export all layers then delete them in the folder.

I know this bug, that happened to me a few times too. I think it happens if I open a new raw file and develop the image it will take some seconds to develop. If I press the middle mouse button while waiting the loading bar, the cursor gets stuck with the imagelayer. There was no way out of this except killing the programm inside the task manager.

"open blank document, press and hold MMB and move, press alt+tab to any other window, go back to affinity photo"

I can recreate this, but can easily escape with clicking the middle mouse button again.

for me clicking MMB again doesn't work. only scrolling works.

  3. here's another update, it seems this problem isn't related to a tablet. with any device that has "middle mouse button" you can replicate this. But I forgot to say that you have to hold MMB and alt+tab. to get out of this situation you have to scroll the mouse wheel. and for the tablet devices, the problem starts from here because, the pen doesn't have a scroll wheel so you can't get out of this situation. tried this also with the 2.2.1.2052 version

  4. tested again so the issue is actually worse and really easy to make. also I recreated this issue with a regular mouse. steps are easy;

    open blank document

press and hold MMB and move

press alt+tab to any other window

    go back to affinity photo

you'll see that your mouse gets stuck at panning the view and you can't exit from this tool even you switch to any other tool, they don't also work anyways.

  5. this is a rare issue but when it happens I have to reopen the program. I am not sure how this is happening this time but my guesses are;

    • when switching to another window and coming back
    • when going to any other panel inside affinity i.e. adjusting perspective tool
    • when doing all above by panning with your pen. ( my pen's middle button is binded to middle click)

quick specs: using windows 10, wacom one tablet, affinity photo 2.2.0.2005(beta)

  6. I believe if Affinity adds this feature it will save many clicks(and time).

Many advanced printers have a feature that lets you scan/print a document with your saved preference. You know this makes your life easier, it can be added to Affinity like for...

4K texture grayscale exports for texturing Bump maps, Single page PDF export OR flat PDF export, you name it, this can be adjusted to your workflow but with 1 click you have your Export settings ready.

the difference from v2 export presets is the presets are in the submenu of a main filetype like PNG > Presets> PNG Grayscale. I'm suggesting to use a similar interface from v1 Export on top of existing v2 export panel, like I mentioned in many printers. so you have your detailed settings but also your favourite presets on top of this panel.

  7. TBH the problem is minor because affinity doesn't have weird node order like Corel if you make a donut shape but the innner circle is inverse. Affinity knows how to handle this issue so you don't have to select to fix this problem.

or in general you just have to reselect the node you want which is just few clicks.

but maybe, it could be a problem in some specific cases where you select specific nodes liike in an ornament and then you notice that you have to reverse the curve.

  8. thanks for all of your useful thoughts. As in the name itself describes Publisher is really useful for books, etc. As I mentioned for a child's book you have many layers; Background, Characters,Foreground,Text(story). I believe that the more I use this "with Publisher" workflow I'll get used to it.

but I do other jobs too.

Packaging from paper needs different workflow but mainly what you do is to design the "Knife Mold(s)", packaging design, explanations, the template of the company. the thing is these could be changed by the customer and you have to be ready for it, always. like they can change the size, which changes the knife mold and so on.

General Object/ Industrial design. this too I believe is heavily relies on Designer because you have to keep things readable/simple, but does this workflow eliminates Publisher? i don't know.

shortly the question in my mind is how does Affinity Products wants me to use them? so I can build a workflow for each medium I'm working on, to get the most of my invesment on Affinity products

  9. image.gif.fe84281bb32532d64da2ab71c37f7668.gif

as shown above reverse curve changes your selection. my guess is this happens  because of node order is reversed, but the program didn't notice the difference, like in this curve there are 6 nodes and I chose the second, but when I reversed the curve, the program selected second node again but in reversed order, and I think this shouldn't happen.

to replicate this problem is easy, program doesn't matter, and I'm using the 2.2.0.1954 beta version

  10. I have bought the Universal license. Individually each program working so well but the connection between other Affinity products confused me comparing to other programs. so my question is if I am making a story book(which requires all 3 products) how to use all of affinity products efficiently? what is the suggested workflow in general? if there are videos for that I really appreciate it.

to clarify, here are some questions:

when do you jump between affinity designer to photo OR to pixel persona?

how should I prepare my files for linked file workflow (instead of embedded)

how to do a good project folder for all 3 products.

AFP and AFD has pen tools but the usage is slightly different. Does AF products pushes me to use them in order ( do vector first then go to photo and paint for example)

and so on... so I am open for any advice. please tell me how do you use AF products and what for? technical? painting? designing? because all of them should have different workflow.

  11. just to keep this post fresh, I also support this dimensioning tools to come to Affinity, especially Designer. I use Coreldraw for 7 years, and IMO this tool doesn't have to be very detailed as much as Corel.

They have "horizontal or vertical Dimension" because "parallel dimension" doesn't work if the mouse is too far away, not necessary. It also has node constraints so if you pull a node the dimension will follow the node, but from experience I turned this off because remarks from customer can make you forget/make mistake. Affinity already have other features like arrow tips and like profiling and the UI is already way better than Corel ( they added variable curve thickness, to somewhere, just this year). And they published the measuring tools. I mean Affinity is "this" close to what we want, and it does not has to be as complex as Corel.

Callout (or leaders) are also mandatory. the workaround is simply use the "dimension" in the Styles panel/studio, then add text to where you want.

Angular Dimension is good to have. My manufacturers doesn't need them anyways but if you sketching furniture it is mandatory.

In short, except the Angular dimensioning, you'll see the only automation/code we need is put a text that has the info of the curve length to the middle of the curve, or to the tip of the curve for callouts.

why Dimensioning especially necessary for a vector design program? I am doing perfume&packaging designs internationally and technical drawing programs like autocad or rhinoceros doesn't have the appeal to show your beauty of your design to the customer, where rendering is too slow and expensive at first steps of design communication. Corel knows this and they are gaining profit because of this.

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying or showing. Sorry.

I can say that as I understand the design, you first must choose the operation you want, such as Align Center from the Align Horizontally part of the dialog (1 below) and after that you choose what you want to align to (2 below).

    image.png.43ec6d82537a610645b883c781a60f03.png

thanks for suggestion but this is about alignment shortcuts. Just try this:

    • go to settings> shortcuts>layer. assign "align centers" to any button. I prefered "Alt + C"
    • prepare aligning 2 objects by using alignment panel first with align to any option but not "selection bounds". I prefered "last selected".
    • now use the shortcut you assigned. You have to see that this shortcut will always use "selection bounds" instead of your preference.

why this is a problem? it makes the shortcut less useful, like a table wihout a leg. and for my workflow I always use "last selected" option.

btw this problem doesn't apply for aligning only one object, it is working as it should.

  13. I prefer to use alignment shortcuts but I found that any alignment shortcut is fixed to "selection bounds"  behaviour, and "spread" if you choose only one object. like if I go to alignment menu and change behaviour to "last selected", then use the shortcut, it doesn't see the change. I really think that this shouldn't happen. heres the clip; I'll use the "align to center" shortcut but "last selected" option is enabled:

this is an issue for All Affinity products release 2.1.1

I have just bought the Deco Pro MW Pen Tablet for use with Affinity Photo2. I understand this tablet is not supported by Serif, but certainly works.

Has anyone on the Forum, or at Serif, used this tablet, or any others in the same family? If so, I would appreciate it if you could share your various settings/shortcut keys with me. My interest is with photo editing exclusively.

This is my first tablet and the learning curve seems to be quite steep! I am guessing that with the correct settings, my work could be morw accurate and perhaps faster than with a mouse.

    Thanks in anticipation.

I have the same tablet ,but I dont use the tablet keys at all, because if you have a mini keyboard(no numpad etc. like microsoft designer) it replaces the need of using tablet keys because; you have more buttons under your hand :)

Hello, I couldn't find a way to "expand" the embedded and cropped document.

the goal is, i.e., I have placed a document that has vector only, then I cropped it using vector crop tool. now for the manufacturing purpose (it can be laser printing etc.) I don't want program to rasterise it if I export the file as PDF. so I want to expand or convert this piece of vector document to actual curves layer.

I know the way to get inside to the document and cut vector curve(s), then paste it back to actual document. but for my situation it is not possible because until my client says "it is final" I cannot use this method because I do adjustments on that specific embedded document.

So I think I am requesting a feature for the vector crop tool or embedded document layer that expands or converts that cropped layer.

or If you say that exporting as PDF automatically does what I want then this is really good.

    I am using designer 2.1.1
