Nicole reacted to MEB in layer effect copy and paste
Hi all,
Currently it's possible to select a layer/object press ⌘ (cmd) + C and then ⇧ (shift) + ⌘ (cmd) + V to paste its style into another. This will however paste all object attributes including Stroke and Fill (plus the FX). We hope to improve this soon.

Hi!
I'd like to share the last painting I made.
I sketched the scene and the "cat" directly on AffinityPhoto using my pencils (that can be downloaded here)
This is the value painting step, I used some Gouaches from the available set and new ones I created for this specific work. And at the end colours! I was looking for a movie-like toning. For this step I used only Recolour and Curve Adjustment layers clipped by painting layers (Foreground/Lion/Fog/Background/Sky) and applyed a bit of sharpening to enhance strokes. -

Nicole reacted to Wilfred Hildonen in My daily illustrations
So I am new to make vector-based illustrations although I have managed to get a few logos together in vector, but after just a few days with Affinity Designer, I am able to use it for my daily illustrations for a newspaper I am working for (from Finland). That isn't bad since I have a deadline to keep. Anyway, here are a few examples plus one for another publication...

Nicole reacted to Shmoo in Compressing images - Squash app
Update 2
Don't use it.. It's bad. Looks like there is a difference between the Mac App Store version and the Trail version you can download from the developers website. The Trail version still can compress smaller .png files while the Mac App Store version will crash as soon as your drop any .png file in the window even 2kb files.
And from using it a while on Live sites on the web I can tell it really does lower the picture quality of your photo's you just have to test a few different photo's and you'll see the results. It's really bad.
Developer of the app is nowhere to be reached, I've tried to mail or get in contact with him but there is no information to be found about him, not even a Twitter account.
Looks like the app is just for show - fancy icon - pretty design - crappy/low quality.
The ImageOptim Mac app is still the best compressor I've used for years and it's even Free to use.

Nicole got a reaction from peter in www.obsidiandawn.com brushes
They have great "Tribal Tattoo" brushes, too, which imported just fine to Affinity. :-)

Nicole reacted to MEB in Introduce Yourself
Hi Rvacs,
Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
It's already planned, it's called Affinity Publisher and will be available as a public Beta at the beginning of next year.

Thanks for the welcome, Andy!
If you're sitting comfortably.....the MacBook Pro 15" with Retina Display. It had to be a laptop because my workhorse souped up desktop with decent sized monitor will still be my office computer, and I couldn't work with a smaller screen.
And it's going to have to pay for itself, that's my motivation. I have a niece who designs and sells to Liberty, etc etc, so I have something to work towards (and we'll be able to discuss Macs, now). Also, I'll never give up CraftArtist but I'm well into the stage where I want to be working with my own original designs (aspirations for the DT shop??).
Virginia Woolf famously said 'a woman must have money and a room of her own if she is to write fiction' - this is what I've bought, a room of my own to create graphics. Can you tell that I'm excited :D :D :D ?
Thanks for the link - bookmarked :)

Nicole reacted to peter in www.obsidiandawn.com brushes
I've just stumbled across this website, that offers brushes for vector and raster personas. They are free to use if you
give the site credit/provide a direct link. The commercial license seems very affordable.

Nicole reacted to A_B_C in Paint background black
Hi photofriend,
here’s a quick way to do it:
Use the selection brush to select the flower (A.) Hit refine from the context toolbar and trace the edges, either all of them or just where it is required, with the refine selection brush (B.) Choose “New layer with mask” and hit apply (C.) Create a new pixel layer in the layers panel and place it underneath the masked layer that contains the flower (D.) Select the pixel layer and choose Edit > Fill … Hope that helps … Alex :)

Nicole reacted to A_B_C in Teeth Whitening
Hi Jokin,
to expand on what Callum already said, I believe you could do the following easy way …
Create a selection of the teeth just as in the Photoshop video. Click Refine … from the context toolbar of your selection tool, refine your selection and choose Output > New layer with mask from the Refine Selection window. Doing so, you can adjust your mask afterwards by painting with black and white brushes. Now you can nest adjustment layers to this new masked layer, just as shown in my second screen shot below. I used HSL and Curves, and I assume that you already know how to get them (by clicking on the semi-filled circle icon at the bottom of the Layers panel). And please note, that you can define Blend Options for each of these adjustment layers by selecting the adjustment layer from the layers list and clicking the cog icon in the title bar of the Layers panel (my arrow). Be aware that my image is just a quick sketch, and I did not want to overdo it. You could certainly ‘fill’ the teeth a little more, clean up the edges, and so on, but I hope, you get the idea …
Cheers, Alex :)

Nicole reacted to peter in I'm very new to this, need help with vector brushes.
Just install them, Affinity isn't listed per se; so just download the brush/set/fill that you like and go for it! Don't forget to select Open with Affinity Designer/Photo when you've installed it.
Some of these only work with the draw persona, others with the pixel persona; some work with both...good luck.
The .pat files don't work with AD. Not compatable!
