Just to throw my 2 cents in. This is what I'd consider a pretty basic feature for an app like this. It's great to be able to create global colours and they work really well. But I had update 45 PDF files last week which I opened in Publisher and I had to select every line, fill etc and change to a global colour. Took me hours to do something that could have been done in a fraction of the time with 'find and replace'.

If it's assumed that Serif's plan is to steal users from Adobe then this should be given some priority.

    Hi world,
it's first time in this forum, i'm totally in love with AD, but this view is totally real.
We can't live with group and subgroup all the time, can't we decide to have all on 1 level?
and untill it is not possible to select by color/fill/stroke it is useless for preprint, time is everything.
    Love

Long term Adobe Illustrator user here. Trying Affinity Designer for the first time today. It's a very nice software, so far, but the lack of this BASIC functionality is baffling..! As already many users pointed out, for people that are editing exported vector graphics (for example CAD drawings) this is definitely a deal breaker.

Personally, I was much more anxious for the release of Publisher. But that's now been quite some time.
This feature really shouldn't be a big deal to implement. At least in a basic way that would be good enough for those of us asking for it. I suspect that Serif are wanting to blow the roof off with a product defining implementation of it or something. But if that's the case, I really just wish they would do something as a stop gap.
Unless of course this is true:

@k2creative Yes - agreed! Over the weekend I wanted to update a 2014 Illustrator project. Took me 5 minutes to run into this absent functionality with Designer and realize that the task would take hours for something that should take seconds. With a shrug, I gave up.
Affinity Designer folks - might you be willing to leave a comment in this thread letting us know that our concerns are heard and that this feature is planned for 2020?
    Pretty please?

It's simple features like this that would help make Designer a true alternative to Illustrator. Selection tools are so basic, and universal, no matter how simple or complex the file is, I am baffled why this wasn't in the day 1 release, or at least in one of the many updates over the years considering the interest in this thread. My use cases vary anywhere from simple illustrations to manipulating GIS/CAD data. Limited selection tools make these jobs anywhere between inconvenient and impossible. Still use it, still love it, but Designer could be so much better.

This has been requested for almost 5 years. Countless 'flashy' features have been added, presumably the focus over the merely essential.

I'm coming back to see if there had been any progress on this issue. But no.
You have limited resources, right, but also wrong priorities I'm afraid. This is perplexing to me. You are probably catering to your existing user base, but you should understand that adding basic functionality would expand that user base significantly.
    Anyway, still on AI CS6.

+1 to this. I really need this feature for complex illustrations. Having to select each individually is a chore. I like AD a heck of a lot more than illustrator for most things, so having to fire up my old illustrator CS5 again to do this is disappointing. It has been in the pipeline for so long now, but I consider this one of the basic for a good vector program. I know you have limited resources, but this one has more practical use than a line stabilizer, for instance.

Can be a great timesaver when you open documents from someone else or from CAD applications. Change any attribute a thousand times at once with only a few clicks.

No, the opposite is the case. In a document with many pages you will lose the overview quickly when you are working only with the existing local layers. Almost every professional Layouter works with "global layers", otherwise you will have to unnecessarily perform many simple actions several times . Luckily, Affinity has already announced in the forum that they are working on global layers. As I understand it, the "local" layers will remain as well. So everyone has the opportunity to use his preferred workflow. In the end, we would have even more options than in InDesign.

Your description is basically what we plan to do so just be a bit patient and give us feedback when we have a working version.
Other long document features will come over time.

It has actually taken InDesign a whole lot longer because Adobe bought out Aldus, the original creators of Pagemaker. InDesign had to change some features in order to claim the copyright, but InDesign was just a retooling of Pagemaker, with some additional bells and whistles thrown in along the way. And not all of them either necessary or very nice, I might add.   I was using Pagemaker v.3.0 (I think) back in 1988 or 1989.   Approximately 30 years ago.  I am stunned that some are so impatient with this beta and have a sneaking suspicion that the person who made the video on UTube (see entry above) was  conceivably an Adobe employee.   Nothing like trashing the prospective competition!!!

That's sad @MEB. Not supporting picas will relegate AP to "toy" status in the USA. A blunder a serious as, for example, Microsoft failing to support CMYK which resulted in almost 0% market share in the pro market. AP will never gain any traction against Quark and InDesign in the US by ignoring the needs of professional designers. That a big market to give up by being stubborn over stuff that is easy to fix.

And both the x and y at the same time. At one point I think InDesign only let you change one at a time.

Another vote for picas. Absolute necessity for me. First thing I noticed was missing when I opened the program.

I have previously requested this for Designer and Photo, but accepted that pixels/points was possibly adequate for most folks' needs.
But I'm aghast that Publisher does not support Pica & Points as a measurement standard.
Please implement this in your measurement engine! I understand that picas may not be used in Europe, but in North America it's a very useful standard.
    Points alone is not enough.
And, thanks for the public beta release!

I'd love to see that the panels could be integrated into the panels on the right side of the UI, also they are way too big and taking too much real estate especially on a laptop screen.

I'd second (or third) this request, certainly for book covers and tri-fold leaflets etc. Currently setting up a book cover/jacket or tri-fold leaflet artwork as a single page means
    a) no crop marks on the exported PDF indicating the spine width or fold marks for a tri-fold and
    b) a lot of manual adjustment of the page elements should there be a need to change the spine width
Would be 'nice' to have the functionality of ID in this respect with the ability to have unlimited pages in a spread but certainly three pages for book covers with the ability to adjust the width of the centre page independently of the front and back cover to accommodate changes in spine width which then includes the addition of crop/fold marks for the spine in addition to the crop marks for the front and back covers.
I suspect this is going to be a heavily requested feature...

Is there a way to make the bleed visible? I also would like to have the choice to set the bleed when creating a new document. There are margins but no bleed. Why?
