If you're getting the error "... CONCRT140.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error" when trying to run any Affinity V2 app on Windows, please download and install the Microsoft.VCLibs.x64.14.00.Desktop.appx package from Microsoft here.
Once installed you will be able to run Affinity V2 without any issues.

Still trying to figure this out but have you made any changes to the permissions to the WindowsApps folder in Program Files?

Thank you, so much. That did the trick. All apps installed, tested, and working. Really appreciate it!
That's great to hear - thanks for letting me know.

Just as a belt-and-suspenders approach, I decided to try to install the VC++ runtime again from the command line using Powershell (the
Add-AppxPackage Microsoft.VCLibs.x64.14.00.appx command). I got this error:
Add-AppxPackage : Cannot find path 'C:\Users\jay-d\Microsoft.VCLibs.x64.14.00.appx' because it does not exist.
At line:1 char:1
+ Add-AppxPackage Microsoft.VCLibs.x64.14.00.appx

+ CategoryInfo : ObjectNotFound: (C:\Users\jay-d\....x64.14.00.appx:String) [Add-AppxPackage], ItemNotFoundException
+ FullyQualifiedErrorId : PathNotFound,Microsoft.Windows.Appx.PackageManager.Commands.AddAppxPackageCommandNow I'm really confused
Can you try this command instead: Add-AppxPackage -Path "https://aka.ms/Microsoft.VCLibs.x64.14.00.Desktop.appx"

Still no response from Affinity?
If you're stuck on Windows 10 build 1809 then V2 apps will not work, sorry. V2 will only work on Window 11 and Windows 10 May 2020 Update (2004, 20H1, build 19041) or later.
-
Also, which version of Windows are you using?
-
I'm sorry to hear that you're having this issue with V2. Strange question but have you ever changed the permissions for the WindowsApps folder in C:\Program Files?
-
Unfortunately, we've had reports that the above locations are not working for certain apps. It's an issue our developers are aware of and is discussed here but they have also provided a workaround below:
-
With the launch of Affinity V2, our V1 apps are no longer available to purchase. This means they have been removed from our website or the App Stores.
Don't worry, if you've purchased an Affinity V1 app in the past you will still be able to download the app from your Affinity Store account or the Purchased Apps section in the App Store, Mac App Store and the Microsoft Store.
- Re-download apps and games from Apple
-
How to Reinstall Apps You’ve Purchased from the Microsoft Store
- Open Microsoft Store
- Go to My Library
- On the right side of the window, you should see Sort and filter drop-down menu
- Make sure Show installed products only isn't ticked
-
Sorry to hear that you're having issues. Can you try installing the app using the PowerShell method listed here:

Sorry to hear that you're still having issues. We're still trying to figure out the issue but can you try instaling .NET 4.8 and then try the app again? https://dotnet.microsoft.com/en-us/download/dotnet-framework/thank-you/net48-web-installer
-
It can be downloaded from here: https://aka.ms/Microsoft.VCLibs.x64.14.00.Desktop.appx
I should also note that the Affinity Apps require a one time online activation to activate the licence. -

Installation always stucks at 16% while displaying something like "Installation of required interfaces" (not sure about this because the installation did not give me a chance to change language to English). In Czech it is "Probiha instalace pozadovanych rozhrani". Even after 30 minutes it does not end up with any error message. I did not find anything in system logs.
Windows 10, all updates installed. If I unzip MSIX and run the application directly without installation, it works fine. So I guess nothing important is missing on my PC.
I would really appreciate if there were an option to change the language because it is almost impossible to translate Czech messages back to English in order to find help.
<Offtopic> As a programmer I just have to say, that the choice of MSIX is generally a bad idea. It creates more problems that it solves. We got rid of it couple years ago. 🙂 </Offtopic>Did you manage to resolve this issue? If not, can you try the Powershell method mentioned below to try installing the app:
-
Is your machine on a network at all or managed by a company? If so, I think this setting can also be enforced via Group Policy.
-
Can you tell me which version of Windows you have installed following the steps here: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/msix/how-to-install-msix-package-on-windows-build-17692/m-p/206498
Also, can you check if you have this app installed? https://apps.microsoft.com/store/detail/app-installer/9NBLGGH4NNS1?hl=en-gb&gl=gb

I did a search for CONCRT140.DLL on my system and found 74 copies of it! Whoa! That's insane. It reminds me of the days I programmed in Visual Basic. We used to call it DLL Hell, because of the problems caused by mismatched versions. Anyway, the CONCRT140.DLL under C:\Program Files\WindowApps\etc. was 0 bytes in size (!!) so I replaced it with the CONCRT140.DLL in the Affinity directory. Now it's working correctly! Yay! Problem solved.
I think installing the dependency from this thread may have also resolved the issue:

I didn't spot anything obvious in the log file unfortunately. I will have to speak with our developers to see if they have any idea what's causing the issues. Will get back to you ASAP.
-
Can you trying using the PowerShell method mentioned here to see if the app will install?
-
If you right click the MSIX file and go to Open with, do you get the App Installer option listed?
-
Ok, thanks for trying. What's strange is that Microsoft Desktop App Installer would have been used to install V2. According to this thread on SuperUser someone had the same issue but using Powershell fixed it. What version of Windows are you on?
-
It will actually be called App Installer in Task Manager. Can you try Terminating this process and try again?
-
Thanks for trying. Can you try restarting your machine and try again? if that fails, can you go into EventViewer and see if you have anything listed there relating to this issue:
Application and Services Logs > Microsoft > Windows > AppxDeployment-Server > Microsoft-Windows-AppXDeploymentServer/Operational

I'm getting the message "App didn't start" when trying run Affinity V2 .MSIX installation file. Why?

This message can occur if you don't have Microsoft App Installer installed. It can be downloaded from within the Microsoft Store here.
Alternatively, you can install the app using the Powershell method as described here:
