  1. How do I acess the stroke panel? Frustratingly, the documentation describes the stoke panel, but doesn't describe how find it.
  2. I want to apply stroke to a text. I also want the corners of the stroke to have sharp edges. I've selected a font that has sharp edges: Robinson Regular (although I've also tested this process with other fonts). I've found a couple of tutorials on Google: they say that to apply stroke to text, the user should go to 'layer'->'layer effects'. In the layer effects dialogue I can increase the 'radius' parameter. As the radius parameter increases, a stroke appears. However, the stroke has soft corners. How do apply a stroke but keep the corners sharp?
  3. I want to reduce the dimensions of a group. I have a group that contains multiple layers. I can alter the dimensions of the group by selecting the move tool, selecting a group, selecting a corner of the blue bounding box of that group and moving the mouse. This works for any given object. However, when I do this with a group, not every object within the group has it's dimensions altered. As a result, attempting to alter the dimensions of the object results in a bit of mess. The group that I'm working on presently contains text. The text retains it's size as all other objects in the group change size. What can I do to scale the text and all other contained objects as I resize the group?
  4. I've found tutorials online for how to create text to follow a curve. The tutorials that I've found instruct the user to first create a curve and then create text along the curve. I'd like to know if there is a way to place text along a curve when the text already exists. Is this possible?
  5. @Lee_T Yes I do. I've got a graphics tablet that acts as a second screen. And yes - the dialogue appeared there. The tablet is new, and this is the second time I've been tripped up by this. Thanks.
  6. I'm trying to follow a video tutorial. In the tutorial the Guides Manager is invoked and configured. I haven't been able to invoke it. How do I find the Guides Manager?
  7. Hi Walt. Yeah, there are definitely some things about layers that I don't get yet. In this context I mean pixel layers: In order to create a new pixel layer, I'm going to the small toolbar at the bottom of the layers panel and clicking on the icon for creating a new layer.
  8. I'm using Affinity Designer 2.1 on MacOs desktop. As I build up my illustration, I create new layers. Over time it has made sense to organise layers into groups. I'm going back and forth between groups and subgroups of layers. At the moment when I create a new layer, the layer appears at the very top of the stack: above all existing layers and layer groups. This is very frustrating, and interferes with my flow. In order to put the newly-created layer in it's correct place, I have to hunt around for the right group, the right subgroup and the right position. Ideally I'd like to create new layers immediately adjacent to the currently selected layer, or at least within the currently selected layer group. Can this behaviour be configured?
  9. Apologies if this seems like a basic and silly question. I have a layer in Affinity Designer that I want to duplicate. But I can't see how to do this.
  10. In Designer I have a drawing with many layers. I want to pick a color from an object or layer without changing any properties of anything. At the moment to select a color I do this: I select a layer -> select the color-picker -> click on a layer I expect a color to be loaded. Instead an obect changes color. How do I simply pick a color without actually simultaneously making changes to the illustration that I'm working on?
  11. @Callum Thanks for the reply. I've been switching between brushes. What I'm trying to do is discover which brush I was using for a particular layer. @Pšenda seems to be saying that this isn't possible at the moment. But I'd find it enormously helpful. I'm pretty much a beginner when it comes to digital illustration, but I'm wondering if people more seasoned than I would find such a feature useful. If so, could this be suggested to developers? Thanks.
  12. I'm getting more used to Designer. It's a bumpy ride but I'm feeling increasingly empowered. I've been doodling using pixel layers. While I've been doodling, I've been playing with different brushes - some that I've imported from a website and one set that I imported from an older version of Designer. Sometimes I look at an area of the canvas that I'm playing on and I like what I'm seeing. I've obviously stroked or sketched or coloured-in with a brush. But I don't recall which brush I used. Is there a way to interrogate the artifact on the page and discover which brush was used to create it? Thanks.
  13. Thank you! That must have been the issue. When I create a new pixel layer at the top of all other layer, I was able to use my brushes of choice on it. I'm coming from Gimp and Inkscape. Layers are different in both of those programmes. But it seems that layers in Designer have aspects that I have yet to learn about. Thanks again.
