hubob reacted to Patrick Connor in Importing PDFs: Conversion of all text into text frames rather than artistic text
We have made fixes/improvements to this area (Use Artistic Text layers (optionally) on PDF import) of the program in the latest release.
The fixes and how to update are described in these forum posts.
Affinity Designer 1.8.4 for Windows ( Microsoft Store and Affinity Store ) Affinity Designer 1.8.4 for macOS ( Mac App Store and Affinity Store )
Affinity Photo 1.8.4 for Windows ( Microsoft Store and Affinity Store ) Affinity Photo 1.8.4 for macOS ( Mac App Store and Affinity Store )
Affinity Publisher 1.8.4 for Windows ( Microsoft Store and Affinity Store ) Affinity Publisher 1.8.4 for macOS ( Mac App Store and Affinity Store ) We would appreciate you checking that this issue has now been resolved for you.

hubob reacted to MEB in Version 1.8: A rant
Hi techfips,
The text being imported as a text frame in v1.8 was an intentional change however this is causing issues for some users working with scientific illustrations/graphs/etc. The issue was logged/passed to the dev team and it's currently being looked into.

hubob reacted to nonresidentalien in Importing PDFs: Conversion of all text into text frames rather than artistic text
Also along the line of my severe struggling with the new treatment of the text imports: Would it at least be possible to have text boxes of a size that corresponds to the box's content, and are not ridiculously/randomly oversized? Trying to equally distribute multi panel graphs virtually impossible. Also all kinds of other alignment task (e.g. changing the text alignment) are just painful due to the oversized textboxes:
Try to distribute these graphs evenly. It used to be a matter of one click...

hubob reacted to nonresidentalien in Importing PDFs: Conversion of all text into text frames rather than artistic text
Hi guys,
Just checking in on any progress on the matter. After having spent yet another 2 hours converting text boxes into artistic text and I am at the point where I am starting to consider using a different vector graphics software.
An update would be great.
Thanks,
Lars

hubob reacted to nonresidentalien in Importing PDFs: Conversion of all text into text frames rather than artistic text
Since one of the more recent updates, all text in imported PDFs is converted to Text boxes rather than artistic text, irrespective of the options chosen when importing the file (i.e. 'Group lines of text into text frames' checkbox deselected). While this may be a good choice for many texts, it completely screws up the workflow for (scientific) illustrations with text labels coming from other applications. Below I have illustrated the consequences of a font change by 2.8pt if everything is imported as box vs artistic text.
Please fix soon, or give option to prefer artistic text over text frames for single line texts.

Hi hubob,
Thanks for letting us know. These are known issues that are with development to be fixed. I've passed on your information to them.
Thanks!

Hey CJ Randolph,
I just wanted to let you know I have logged this as a bug as per Mark's request. I think this is an excellent idea btw

hubob reacted to HYR in Feature Request: Convert Artistic Text to Frame Text
I'd love it if I could easily convert from Artistic Text to Frame Text with a click of a button or shortcut. I dislike having to create a new frame text and then copy the text out of the the artistic text box and past into the frame text box.

hubob reacted to if.rivic in align and distribute function works very strange
I'll hook into this thread, as I don't want to open another one.
I too quite like the option to set a reference object to which the selection is then aligned – deselecting and selecting again seems a bit counterintuitive to me, though a useful workaround.
But my other (and worse) issue with the align tools is as follows:
In Publisher 1.7.0.227 on macOS 10.14.2, I added all the align buttons to my top toolbar:
When I use those, they seem to always default to "align to spread" with one selected object and "selection bounds" with multiple objects selected.
Is there a way to control what alignment mode the buttons work in? I'd like to reduce having to go into the overlay-menu of the single alignment button.
Thanks

hubob reacted to A_B_C in Affinity Designer Customer Beta (1.6.1 - Beta 3)
Hubob: are you sure to have the font Zapf Dingbats installed on your system? Your data points are entirely made of text, so if you don’t have this font, it is almost inevitable that Affinity Designer cannot render your document correctly after import.
(I must have a look if I can find a version of Zapf Dingbats on some of my hard drives to check this. I am pretty sure I had a license for this font at some point in time … hmm …)

hubob reacted to Chris_K in [AD] Bug report: dimensions of vector objects affected by DPI settings
Hi huhbob
Thanks for reporting this. This is something we are already aware of and is logged in our system so hopefully we shall get around to sorting it soon
Cheers

+1, I wanted to post the same thing, these are features I use extensively.

hubob reacted to SCHLUBUB in Placing an Image in it’s original dimensions
I already posted this in the questions-section, but as there seems no solution to this I will just post it again here as a feature request:
If I place a TIFF-Image without scaling it, it will not be placed in it’s original dimensions but scaled to fit the document’s DPI.
For example: If I have an Image with 10x10 cm at 1000 dpi and place it in an AD document with the document resolution set to 200 dpi the image will be placed in a size of 50x50 cm to fit the document resolution. I think, it should be the other way (or at lest you should be able to toggle this behaviour).
Normaly, placing an image in a document, I would like to preserve it’s original dimensions. Regardless, which dpi it would have after that. Any other DTP-Software I know behaves this way. For example: If I place a 10x10 cm TIFF in Illustrator, it will always be this size by default.
Adjusting the document dpi to the dpi of the image can’t be the solution. What, if you have different Images with different dpi that you would like to place in their original dimensions in one AD-document?
P.S.: I just did some testing with other import-formats. TIFF, JPG and PSD all behave this way, EPS results in different dimensions but still not the original dimensions and PDF was the only file-format resulting in a 10x10cm image being placed in exactly this dimensions regardless of the dpi.
At least the EPS should be sized to it’s bounding-box dimensions by default, don’t you think so?

hubob reacted to affinity_user in [ADe] Align/distribute to key object: desperately needed for Scientists
I would like to add a third request for object alignment that allows keeping one object in place while the other moves. I am also primarily a scientific user, and having this feature is a big time saver for producing publication quality figures.

hubob reacted to rafi in [ADe] Align/distribute to key object: desperately needed for Scientists
Dear Affinity Team,
First of all congratulation on Affinity Photo and Designer. I absolutely love both programs. You guys are doing an amazing job, thanks for that!
I agree with the post above, and I have the same request. In Designer, when you want to align objects, it would be extremely useful to be able to select one of the objects as a fixed reference that does not move while other objects align to the reference.
I would love to be able to use Designer to prepare figures for scientific publications, but without this feature it is difficult. I imagine you guys are very busy, but it would be a big plus to have this feature implemented. With this feature, I would be happy to use exclusively Designer, but without it, I still have to rely on alternatives.
Thanks a lot, keep up the good work and greetings from Beijing.

hubob got a reaction from 1104LatoriaMync in Pixelated image upon pdf import
Hi all,
does anyone have a clue why the raster parts of this pdf get pixelated so badly when I import it into Affinity Designer?
Thanks!
