GripsholmLion got a reaction from Alfred in Random and inconsequent usage
1. None of your business.
2. None of your business.
3. None of your business.
It is thanks in no small part to that "relevant minority" – whatever that is supposed to mean – that I and many other members know how to get the most from this software. That in turn has allowed me to run my very small and insignificant business effectively and, above all, affordably.
So drop the attitude, please.

GripsholmLion reacted to Old Bruce in Alignment panel UI redesign concept proposition for the devs
My takeaway is that I will no longer be able to set separate Align to options for Horizontal and Vertical. I would need this occasionally. Vertical align to Spread, Horizontal align to First selected.

GripsholmLion got a reaction from dehskins in Feature Request: Add "Convert to Art Text" to Affinity Photo 2
@MikeTO's very helpful chart from a year ago suggests that it was never in Photo. It seems a little bit odd to me: given the same two tools, I would expect to see the same functions at least somewhere to convert between either of them; unless there is some technical limitation, obviously. TBH, I hadn't even noticed the difference until reading this thread as I habitually use Designer for text.

GripsholmLion reacted to loukash in Affinity Designer Layer Effects
You're right, thanks.
What still hasn't been fixed, however, is the UI issue in the Light Mode in the "brightest" setting where the direction dot and the profile curve remain invisible:
… and there ar many such "blind spots" like this elsewhere in the Light UI.

GripsholmLion reacted to nickbatz in EDIT: Never mind... Feature suggestion: better way to adjust clone brush rotation and scale
The problem is that putting in the degrees of rotation in the context menu and then having to hit Enter before seeing what you're doing requires considerable trial and error.
Hopefully I didn't miss a way around this, but it would be great if there were a way to adjust the angle and scale from the keyboard or mouse while you're previewing with the Clone Brush without having to leave the entry box.
I use the K tool all the time, for example to extend borders around objects... well, it's hard to explain, but I think the idea is clear.
Thanks.
EDIT: Example: let's say I want to extend the thin red line around this green thing (never mind that I'm going to change the color, because red and green isn't ideal). Pretend that this particular example wouldn't be easier with the brush - usually the border is more complicated.

The Layer menu in Photo desperately needs a cleanup!

GripsholmLion got a reaction from dehskins in Feature Request: Add "Convert to Art Text" to Affinity Photo 2
@dehskins If you are trying to find an item on a tool context menu which relates to a layer-level function, make sure that you have switched from either of the text tools to the move tool (press V). e.g...
And the "convert to art text" function should be on the layer menu in Designer (though absent in Photo), e.g...

Welcome in the forum @Erno. Thank you for sharing your observations. You are right in this matter. The documentation is written very poor.
Once again your conclusions are correct. They try to forcefully reinvent some common, proven functions, shortcuts and functionalities that have been working for years, which often ends with very poor results. There is potential in the apps but with such decisions it will, im affraid be wasted.

GripsholmLion reacted to debraspicher in How do you set priorities?
I'd like them to fix far more bugs than they're doing currently rather than worry about user-elected development cycle(s)... the bugs are a huge turn-off to using the programs and even though I really don't want to as these are the programs I prefer, I'm having to consider other options lest I end up in a situation where I can't use the programs... as it is currently, I have to lower my DPI on my displays to even use Pixel Mode properly. And then there's the BSOD caused by moving certain panels between displays to another (otherwise my computer is a very stable President). I'm not so concerned about future BSODs, but the laissez faire approach towards the growing bugs list is a major red flag...

GripsholmLion reacted to tzvi20 in How do you set priorities?
HI @Bryan Rieger I don't get crashes too often, but I would like much more bugs to get fixed then at the rate than they are. I am talking about bugs themselves, not UI design choices.

GripsholmLion reacted to PaulEC in Default print range option
This is my biggest problem with Affinity software – the great reluctance to make settings "sticky"! – I just do not understand why Serif think it is better to have settings continually going back to a setting chosen by the developers, rather than one chosen by the user!

GripsholmLion reacted to Keith Curtis in Default print range option
I have just created a 64 page programme for our folk festival and needed to print individual pages for proofing and always had to change from "document" to "current" which was very time consuming every single time and then when printing off individual signs for the festival I forgot and printed off about 20 wasted pages before I managed to halt the printing process wasting a lot of paper and yellow ink as I normally turn of the yellow layer and print directly onto yellow paper.
What would be great would be to have the option to make "current" page the default and only choose the whole document when needed in other words reversing the default.
Cheers
Keith

GripsholmLion reacted to Alfred in SPAG error in ‘Options’ help for Slices panel
The description for the Continuous option says “if the content within the slices are modified.” The verb needs to agree with “content”, not “slices”, so the text should read “if the content within the slices is modified.”

GripsholmLion got a reaction from Alfred in make PDF default file format
To receive a different answer may require a different question to be asked.
You made a suggestion and received fair minded explanations of why that suggestion may not be very sensible.
That is a bold and very probably inaccurate assumption. I am often very supportive of feature requests, but I cannot support this one.

GripsholmLion reacted to Pšenda in make PDF default file format
You can try to use the Export persona, set the export to PDF in it, and select the Continuous option. So the PDF file will be created automatically every time you change the document, and you won't have to keep repeating it manually/annoyingly.
https://affinity.help/designer2/English.lproj/pages/ExportPersona/slicesPanel.html
P.S.
Be aware that you didn't post your "question" in the forum for "questions" - where you would most likely get the "answer" you wanted (sounds "NO"), but in the forum for "requests". Therefore, the arguments presented here were rather of the type - why the request you mentioned will most likely not be accepted and implemented, because not only is it completely against the concept of Affinity, but it is probably also an unnecessary investment of development capacities, since there will not be many users who would use such a thing at all (even though you think otherwise).

GripsholmLion reacted to postmadesign in Designer Pencil Tool improvements
I really like the freehand vector pencil tool in Designer, but there are some thing that are a bit annoying and could improved imo.
1. Auto close was added in 2.0, but I find that in most cases it is not very useful. I would rather have the ability to close a path when the starting and end point are at a specified distance from eachother, say 10 points. This would allow me to use sculpt mode AND create closed paths, which is not possible right now.
2. Set smoothing factor: I would like the ability to set the accuracy of the stroke I draw, from very raw input with a lot of accuracy to a more smoothed out line.
3. Related to the previous point is the problem I have with zooming and pencil accuracy. The more zoomed out you are, the less accurate/more smoothed out the path becomes. I wish for a general smoothness regardless of zoom level.
4. I would love the integration of a Path eraser, that would be able to cut lines up to an intersection. This is possible using the Shapebuilder tool right now, so the code is there, but having it integrated in the Pencil tool and available with a shortcut would make it much more intitive and fast. This would probably require an option to keep all drawn paths selected.

GripsholmLion reacted to JhonatanS in Designer Pencil Tool improvements
the nodes generate still are not good and haven't received updates to smooth in appropriate way, I understand that this is the only solution for now but as I show on video, sculpt fails a lot,
the idea of bringing this topic is to inform Serif to give attention to this matter

GripsholmLion reacted to deepblue in Real vector brushes in AF Designer 2.x
Hello,
one wanted to ask whether real vector brushes are planned for Affinity Designer 2.x. Still looking for a way to use real vector brushes for a project. I know the function of Illustrator, but I miss the function in Affinity Designer.

GripsholmLion got a reaction from Petar Petrenko in Customiziing context toolbar
I would find that very useful because I often find that one or two of my most used settings are in the overflow, so I would move them if I could. As an alternative, it would be helpful if the context bar was scrollable when overflow occurs. I have sometimes configured browser toolbars (using CSS) to work like that because it is efficient.

GripsholmLion reacted to Binarytales in slice tool snap to grid?
February 2024 can saddened to find this thread after a little bit of googling. 😢
The slice tool feel next to useless for me in it's current state in Affinity Designer 2. 😞
I'm trying to export an icon set for my Stream Deck so need 15 square slices to line up exactly with the artwork.
The free hand slice tool is not snapping to anything.
I have tried creating non-visible boxes in the right positions and creating slices from those but then all I can export is the empty box, I can't seem to get it to export all the layers for a clice created that way.
The "Edit All Layers—allows selection of objects across all layers (rather than the current layer)." option doesn't seem to do anything. I may be missunderstanding it's purpose but my intuition was that it would indeed say what the docs say and select all layers when creating a slice.
The "Export Setup Options" as described here- - says "The following options are available in the export setup for each slice entry: ..." IMO this suggests that you can change between these options but I can't see a way to do that, it seems these options are just different icons to show how the slice was initially made.
Part of the challange for me in this particular situation is that I have background artwork that spans across the whole grid of icons to be exported making it much much harder to create each icon as a self contained group or layer - at least, as far as I can tell, without loosing the abillity to easily edit the background layer in isolation.
Very very frustrating that there isn't a better way to do this even after all this time.
I guess my only option now is to manually place every slice and adjust the exact size and position using the Transform pallette. I'm glad I only have 15 of these to do!

GripsholmLion reacted to Petar Petrenko in Customiziing context toolbar
Like we can customize tools and toolbar I would like to have an option to customize the context toolbar. There are some icons I would like to rearrange, like bringing the leading icon next to the font size icon, etc.
