Is this the same issue as discussed (at length) in the following thread?

No, clearly you didn't. 😉 No worries.

Yes, that's what I understood you to mean.
As I say, I tested switching back and forth between tabs (in Designer anyway) and I could not replicate this behaviour. And as I say, I haven't seen this in Photo either (which I use more often).
This is not quite the same as what you've experienced, but I'll mention that something which will deselect layers is clicking on the grey background around an image (even though you're not actually clicking on a different layer). That can be quite annoying if I do that absent-mindedly, so you have my sympathy here!
Sorry that I couldn't be of more help, though.

Hello. I sort of followed your other post about this but I wasn't completely clear about what you've been experiencing.
If you have, say, two files open in Designer or Photo and you switch between them, the last focused layer in each doc will no longer be focused when you return to that tab? If so, that may be a bug because it's different to what I'm experiencing. I just tried it in Designer with a few files open; selected various layers or grouped layers, switched tabs, and they stayed selected. I don't think that I've ever seen any loss of focus in Photo either.
I did find some inconsistency when I first opened my test files, though. A fairly complex file with grouped layers had nothing initially selected when it was opened, while the other files did. One was an afphoto file with a brush layer selected; the other was an icon with just a single group of layers.

I can see the ones that I have downloaded from the "Account" section have locks, and the ones manually have this sort of "chain-link" icon.
I thought that it was supposed to be a shopping bag (although it also reminded me of a cartoon 1 ton weight!)
Anyway, I wanted to mention that I had a similar problem with purchased brush sets getting duplicated, each with two types of icon. It happened several times, and I deleted the duplicates each time...
Like you, I installed them manually, in my case from local backup copies.
In the end, I removed and reinstalled all of the problematic sets and signed out of my account in all apps. Even though I had the automatic downloads disabled, the shopping bag icon did seem to suggest that the account was involved somehow.
One or possibly both of those moves finally fixed the issue for me, so if it happens again to you, maybe try them.

I'm fairly sure that I have read a thread or post which raised this issue in the last few days; but, of course, I can't find it now.
Rest assured that you're far from alone in being bugged by this little oddity.
I'm very much hoping that they fix this and, while they're at it, allow me to tab between the various numeric values in the tool context bar. Maybe it's supposed to work, but it doesn't for me. One tab seems to go nowhere; the next toggles the UI off! 😡
In many other areas, such as the transform palette, we can tab through values, so this is an odd inconsistency. UIs should be as consistent as possible.

Those developers do seem to have some odd ideas about what is expected.

Make that +2. I find that it can be a bit distracting to have it render just as I am trying to interpret all of the export settings. It is a bit buggy as well.

@johndmoulton I would be quite interested to know whether you found that this helped. Thanks.

Have you customised your keyboard shortcuts? Perhaps you introduced an error or triggered a bug?
By default, Cmd + Z undoes on Macs. Redo, by default, needs a second modifier, i.e. Shift.
Maybe, you should check your app shortcut settings in system preferences, or Affinity preferences (in the Shortcuts section, change the second dropdown to Edit), and maybe check the tablet software as well. If necessary, reset any changes and start over.
If your tablet has buttons, map one of them to Cmd + Z in the software; it may well already be that way by default as it's such a common function.
If I am way off the mark here, my apologies; please ignore me.

I'm not sure how relevant the Windows task bar really is to a discussion in the MacOS section. The two systems have some very different ways of working.
For example, some Mac users will have dock hiding enabled and may not use it all that much, if at all, or have some other variation in how they move around apps which may trigger this issue. I wasn't aware of it until seeing this post, but that's probably because I usually run these apps on a new desktop (i.e. full screen) and in any case switch between windows with Swish.

This is one of the reasons why I use SimpleLogin to create a unique alias for each internet account. It took even less time to generate a new alias and disable the old one than it took to update my account settings here. No organisation has my canonical email address other than, obviously, the provider of it.

I just tried this for myself and I experienced the same phenomenon. Not good! I don't believe that this is how applications are supposed to behave and I have only experienced this flaw in one other application in years of using Macs.

As I have not been able to find the answers to my earlier questions, I completely uninstalled the applications from one of my computers, deleted all related folders (using Easyfind) from the libraries and caches, restarted, and reinstalled them. On first opening, with no alterations, the icons are still broken; so if this is not a bug, then I really do not know what is.

I have just tried the Control key thing (after a TM backup) and nothing different occurred when the application was launched. I am not sure what was supposed to happen.

Sorry. I had no idea that anyone had responded to me. I kept a close eye on it during the day of posting, but then had to get on with other things.
In order to answer your question, I have saved a screen image from each of the affected PCs. That seemed slightly easier than trying to type it all!
Can I ask you whether resetting anything will lose my changes to the window layout, main bar, tool icons, and other preferences? I had to make a lot of changes (four times, of course) to make both applications visually comfortable and usable.
I have found how to save these changes as a profile, but not how to do anything with whatever was saved, such as importing or sharing it between PCs. Nor do I know whether the profile contains all customisations. Would you be able to summarise this or point me to an explanation? Thanks.

I don't quite know whether to describe this as a bug. It is to me, but perhaps this effect is intended. But the icons on the left of the "My Account" window look very strange when they are each selected. All of them do this, in Photo and Designer. Anyway, see the cropped screen capture. I am not sure what else you may wish to know, so I will have to leave it here.

Designer V2 Crash Reports -- Do you guys receive Crash Reports from Apple? Do you look at them?

Unfortunately, my initial experience of reporting bugs and issues was not positive. If you install the application, immediately see something odd, and report it, it's a bit demoralising to be told that, effectively, there's nothing wrong. "Works fine for us" kind of thing.
I have a few things which I would like to report if they are still extant in 2.1, and I will do so if no-one else beats me to it. At least one has existed since v1.x, so I'm not super confident that they will even be logged, let alone fixed. But I accept that they can't be fixed if they are not reported, so I'll try.
