When I design an interactive form I do it in Affinity Designer or Publisher and then add the fields in Acrobat Pro. When it comes to revisions it is easy to import the changed PDF into the older one – single pages or full document – and then fix some differences. This unfortunately requires Acrobat Pro which is rather costly – but it’s a tool I always need for preprint control.

    Yes that's an option.
However, I opted to close the 'Chapter Adobe Software'. Its why I went to Affinity suite in the first place.
Its pretty unfortunate that we have to go through many of such sidesteps to make such interactive forms.

To get rid of these extra steps it would be really nice if Serif could implement such feature in Affinity Publisher.
I think this is a long open request that's still due to be implemented, hope to see this request moving up the priority list.

It just depends on your setup and your workflow. If you use a Frame Text object (not Art Text) resizing the Group does affect the Picture Frame (incl. its nested image) without affecting the font in the caption. If you do not select the Group for resizing but its nested two layers you have more options for the image and still don't resize the text.

For some automatism you can use Data Merge. This enables you to create pairs of picture + text frames and get the text frames auto-filled according to the contents of a source document. If you create this like a "contact sheet" you can use the result as source and copy/paste selected pairs of objects for use in a custom layout.

    Thanks, let's try that.

  3. Bing Chat..... I know.... don't trust too much on AI yet. 🤣
But still is it possible to add a caption, or not.
And if so, how without having to add an extra text frame under the image.

There should (must) be a consistent and repetitive way to add captions to images?
I know I can make a picture frame, group it and make it an asset. But then when you change the aspect ration of the image, the caption gets distorted. That's not what I want.

  4. I want to add a caption to a picture frame.
Shouldn't be too difficult.... I thought.

Found this online: add a caption to a picture frame in Affinity Publisher 2, follow these steps:

1 Select the picture frame by clicking on it.
2 Go to the "Properties" panel on the right side of the interface.
3 In the "Caption" section of the panel, click the checkbox to enable captions.
4 Enter the text for your caption in the "Caption text" field.

    Simple I thought....
But... my eyes must be deceiving me as I can not find the proper 'properties panel', and so can't find the caption section either.
What and where am I overlooking this?
Please help me, as its driving me a little insane today :)

  5. I didn't know how to exactly describe the topic, sorry for that :)

My problem with Publisher is that I do not know how to get a text (in my case a page numbering) inside a circle the problem is cause by some text wrapping done in the first layer.

As you may see in the attached picture.
The first layer consists of a picture frame with a picture put inside.
This first layer has wrapping set to 30 pixels (all sides).
This is done because on the left side of this picture there is a text frame containing body text for the document I am working on.

On top I have placed a circle.
This circle has no wrapping set.
On top of the circle I want to place a text frame containing page numbering.

The page numbering is not visible and I am pretty sure (though I could be mistaken) it is due to a wrapping issue.

My question is, how do I get a text frame with text inside this circle, or better said on top of that circle.

Please help me, I am stuck! :)

  6. Thanks for your reply.

I am a Mac user, so there are a dozen of options still available.
However coming from Indesign, it is mostly these smaller things that I am still missing in Publisher.
Would be nice if Serif could add these features to Publisher. Its just an extra step I have to do now, while it would be nice to just export and set the security level of what a user is allowed do with the document.

The content I am working on is not what I would call very confidential.
Still client wants to have some security build into the document. Most likely (i think) because of possible legal issues.
