KarinC got a reaction from R C-R in No Brush Size Indication?
Back to the issue. I was thinking that if all you want to do is change the width of the brush stroke it would be better to do it from the tool bar rather than editing the brush. That way the default width isn't changed and it would be quicker. (not that the issue doesn't need to be fixed).

I wanted to report back on this just in case anyone else experiences this in KDP. Apparently the sloppy gutters are seen only in the proof copy. I received the real copies yesterday and the gutters are fine.

I was in panic mode yesterday with the clock ticking before the ability to make changes was locked. I didn't understand the timelines. This was my first time.
I had a bleed value set even though I wasn't using a bleed on the interior so set it to zero. I went through the long export only to be told I didn't have permission to overwrite the previous PDF. I started over, with the clock ticking, renaming it this time which worked. That added to the panic.
I designed it with a wide gutter. It shows like it should on the publisher pages, shows like expected on the PDF and when I finally got it uploaded with an hour to spare it looked perfect on the KDP template with a nice wide gutter. I will just have to hope that it is right now that it is set in stone. Maybe they are more sloppy with proofs.
On my proof of the spread, one page has a very wide outer margin and small gutter. That alternates from one page spread to another. It must be related to trimming. perhaps? It is like each spread was moved about a quarter of an inch one way or the other.
I searched and found some other people experiencing the same thing, but with no resolution. I can ask on the KDP forum but they are pretty vicious. I learned my lesson the hard way there.
Uploading your first book to KDP is a harrowing experience.

Sorry, I'm a little stressed out. I uploaded the cover and it showed perfectly in the KDP template.
Your answer made me remember that the first time I exported it, I had a bleed amount set when it should have been zero. It now makes sense. Thank you.

Use the sandwich like icon on the right. However, you can't use the menu options without first using one of the three left buttons, messing things up first, for some obscure reason.

Ah, bleed settings are the culprit. For some reason I had them at .118 inches, not zero. I might have thought I had to set them for the template. Thank you.

It might be. I used Illustrator for 20 years illustrated dozens of textbooks. Now, if I use the version I bought many years ago I can be liable for piracy. I also do not want to pay Adobe a monthly fee for as long as I live. I like Affinity. Designer and Publisher has made it possible and affordable to create a project I've wanted to do for along time. I usually search for a YT video on whatever it is I want to do and end up learning a few other things in the process.
I've been using Publisher for about 2 months now and it is beginning to feel intuitive.

Yes, page is correct. It happens in the whole document. There are two types of master pages (one with page numbering and one without) It happens on both types of master pages.
    The file is attached.

KarinC got a reaction from walt.farrell in Art Text Tool suddenly not working in Publisher 2
It doesn't make any difference. Again, the artistic text tool will not activate when I click on the art board on any page. It is very strange.
Because I need to work on this I am creating the art text in a new document then pasting it in. Which is not ideal but it is the only solution I can come up with.

This finally solved my problem. I was getting a different default leading with the art text tool vs. the frame text tool. Once I finally found the baseline grid and found that it was activated that fixed it.

Thanks. I figured that which was why I dove right in and fixed all the problems right away. I need to keeping working but in single page view.
