  1. Thanks, Gabe, that clarifies a lot, but is there a way seeing which are which, other than going into the details of each brush? I guess most special effects brushes do have a raster layer.
  2. I wanted to expand the stroke made from some imported brushes, but it doesn’t expand. When I try some of the pens which came with the app, it works. And I’m in the Vector Persona all the time. So how do I know which pens work expanding or not?
  3. Thanks a lot. I’ve added Documents and although it’s quite a lot to get into, it’s not overwhelmingly difficult:) With this experience, I might understand why some people still consider the iPad a toy, in spite of the fact that you can create some serious work on it. Perhaps Apple should buy Readdle to implement some of these functions in the iPad Pro, to make it really pro...
  4. Oh shit! Well, it wasn’t that much but it really sucks. Perhaps you should change that default or at least give users a warning? Well, done is done and there’s nothing to do about it now, but I’ll change that setting now - and I suggest that you change the default setting to avoid worse disasters for other users.
  5. Hello! Affinity Designer began to run slow on my iPad Pro first generation, so I thought I'd better delete and reinstall the app. I took care to save the work I had in there, but I cannot find all of it now, just one of them. So what happened to the other work I had in there? It said that it saved but obviously it did not. Any ideas?
  6. Sorry for the late response. Lots of work, but yes, it was definitely something useful there! At the very end of it. That was what I was looking for and which I need to remember when I start a new illustration based on the same saved document. I’m still thinking paper and if I grab a new sheet of paper, it’s blank, isn’t it? But this isn’t. So I need to revert to default each time. Thanks a lot. I had problems with text again today and no matter how I twisted, tweaked and turned properties and everything and anything, it stayed invisible. But revert to default solved it. Phew!
  7. Yes, that was it! But I cannot understand how that would happen. Well, the reason it might have been turned the wrong way now, is perhaps since I added the question mark again, just for the sake of demonstrating the issue, and then I probably did move the container accidentally - but I thought that when you add a text, the container would be resized automatically so the text would appear. But in this case it clearly didn't, because the question mark was never visible. Is there an easy way to reset tools without resetting any preferences? In some cases, like in this, I start anew using the same "template" you might say, for each time I need to make a new illustration named "debatteckning", but perhaps that is why some changes are transferred from a previous illustration to a new one. But if I just could reset the tools when I start a new one, that could be avoided.
  8. Perhaps you meant the highlighted text box when you mentioned the blue rectangle? Anyway, I checked the horizontal scale and it wasn’t set to zero. If it had been, it would have meant that a setting from a previous illustration had been carried over to this which shouldn’t happen, I think. But anyway, here’s the file. debatteckning .00-2018.afdesign
  9. Not in this illustration at least, but I think I’ve experienced that settings have carried over from a previous illustration, which I think it should not. Anyway, as I don’t have much time, I painted the question mark I needed, but I took a screenshot of it with a text box and the settings for the text. Perhaps it can give a clue... (Hm, couldn’t just paste it here. Need to save it first. Bummer)
  10. I guess it’s my lack of knowledge but this happens once in a while. I add a text layer but cannot see any text. I drag the layer to the top or create an entire layer for it, but no. It doesn’t appear. I guess I have touched into some button I shouldn’t but cannot figure it out what that would be. Any ideas, anyone? (And the layer isn’t set to invisible, of course)
  11. I am not sure whether this is the right forum for this, but I haven't found one feature which I have used often in Photoshop or even PS Elements, which is what I could afford. Anyway; if I make an illustration for print, I often want to make a copy optimized for web, but if I use Resize Image in Affinity Photo (on the iPad as well as on the iMac) I don't get an optimized result, only a copy which looks like one with poorer quality. Now, the way I learnt to do it in Photoshop, is as follows: 1. Open the Resize Image dialogue box and deselect Resample Image. 2.Resize image from 300 dpi to 72 dpi - image dimensions (Document size) increases in pixels or millimeters or whatever you choose. 3. Reselect Resample Image and set the desired dimensions and click OK 3. Choose Saw For Web, select location and save. Et voilá! You will have a lighter low res copy which will look just as sharp and pristine on the web as the hi res print version. (I'll attach screenshots to help explaining. Does this exist in Affinity Photo or if not, is it on the roadmap?
  12. I have created a category for my favourite brushes, but how do I add them there? On the desktop version I have to right-click, but how to do that on the iPad?
  13. Affinity Photo for the iPad Pro is just great and I hope Designer is coming soon as well. Until now I had only used AP to edit photos, but finally I got around to try it out as a drawing app and it rocks! But nothing as good that it can’t be better so here’s my list of features I’d like to see. One is quite simple: add a line tool to shapes. There is the arrow tool but then I need to select none for the arrowheads and if it had been the other way round, I’d be content. The reason I ask for it is because I often add a thin line to frame my cartoons, for instance. Procreate has a solution for it; you just draw a line and press and hold and it snaps into a straight line. But since iOS support a ruler why not add that? Well, it wouldn’t work on the desktop version or for other platforms, but a ruler would be handy as a support when drawing straight lines. Then I’d like to see something like Photoshop’s Magic Wand - a really quick selection tool. Click. Select. (And now I remembered a useful feature in Procreate; to be able to select a layer as a reference layer.) Finally I would like to see a do not disturb mode, a clean sheet or drawing mode. By that I mean something like the full screen mode you have, where menus go away - but they snap back too easily! When I have chosen my tool I’m all absorbed when I’m drawing and I work fast and intensely. Then it’s frustrating when all the menus pop have or I inadvertently touch some feature I don’t want. If by clicking the little icon in the upper right corner really meant that everything but the canvas go away and stay away until you click it back again, it would be great. And then the adjustments for the brushes should go away, too. That was all and forgive me if this was posted in a wrong place and feel free to move it where it should be.
  14. Thanks a lot and there they were - and this means they work on iPhoto on the iPad Pro as well! Good thing Seems like you have a lot of work now, clearing up the confusion around this, so I'll disappear now, but I'd just like to say thanks
  15. Yes, I noticed it after I had already posted. Sorry about that but perhaps a good thing can't be said too often? I am a bit crosseyed and tired, but just one more thing: I have downloaded all the packs and then I tried to import the brushed into Designer, and there appeared popups saying they were added, but when I tried to check them out, I didn't see any new ones; neither new groups, nor new brushes in the existing groups. I tried to install them again, just dropping them on the icon in Dock and again it looked like it worked - but I still can't see any new brushes. Now I have even updated the OS but nope. Perhaps I really am too tired, but this puzzles me.
  16. I was just as confused as you were but I got help. It looks like we old customers on the Mac, are regarded as new customers in this case. It is only Windows-users who have such an account from earlier. Perhaps it would be an idea with a little info about that somewhere?
  17. So far I had only used AP for photo editing on my iPad Pro, but finally got around to draw and paint in it yesterday, and I was enthusiastic! This was as close to draw on paper as one can get on a screen, I thought. Better than Procreate even, which I’ve been using for my daily work since I bought the iPad Pro when it first came out - but I was disappointed today and had to give up on it and shared the drawing I had started with Procreate and finished it there. What went wrong? Well, it started to lag. The line was dragging several millimetres behind the tip of Pencil and it made it impossible to draw with quick strokes as is my manner. There is still plenty of space on the iPad, more than 80 gb out of 128 and the drawing wasn’t that large, either. So, anyone else experienced this? Is there a fix? I’ll attach a short screen recording which shows what happens. ADFC4E31-3A27-4ED0-97C2-A065AF00998F.MP4 The screen recording didn’t play on my iPad at least so I attach a screenshot, too.
  18. Great! That did the trick! The solutions are always so simple you feel like: Why didn't I think of that, but well, that's how it is :D Thanks a lot!
  19. I wasn't notified about new posts here, but that is of course a solution, but not if you need to blow it up later. But anyway, Intaglio has a free app for vectorising and getting paths. Very useful. http://www.purgatorydesign.com/Vectorize/index.html
  20. I am trying to clean up something which will become part of a logo but I would need to separate or cut or divide (I am sorry but it is hard to explain in words, so perhaps the screenshot may be of help) I want to cut the "lasso" so it won't look like an "e", but I am highlighting nodes and click on Break Curve ut it looks like new nodes are coming up all the time. What I would need is a kind of scissors or a blade just to cut loose and then fix the nodes as they should be. I am not that experienced with bezier-curves and nodes, so perhaps it is something obvious for those in the know, but I hope someone can explain the obvious to me:)
  21. I just added Photo to my toolbox and my first impression is: Awesome! I have been using Designer for a while now, but I have tried to survive with Photoshop Elements for a while, since I couldn't afford the full Photoshop, which I once upon a time had - and I don't like subscriptions. Anyway; I tried to resize an image from 300 dpi to 72 dpi, but the tool to do so seemed a bit simplistic and the result wasn't so good. The way I learnt to do it in Photoshop, is manually, resampling etc. and then save it as optimised for web, JPEG full quality. Viewed on a monitor you hardly see the difference between the hi-res image and the lo-res. Perhaps there is some trick and procedure I have missed, but if not, it would be great if one could do it the manual way in Photo as well. As for the rest, I am more than happy :D
  22. I just bought Photo and it seems like a true sibling of Designer - but the only way to rotate a RAW-photo as I can find is by15˚ each time through the View-menu and there is no shortcut or anything. I don't see any Document-menu, only when I work on a photo in another format.
  23. This a little late, but I just exported a pdf where I had selected to add 5 mm bleed, but then I got a message from the printer's, asking me to add bleed. But I did that, I replied, but thought I'd better go back here to check for solutions. And yes, I had forgotten to choose the well hidden option when exporting, assuming that when I have chosen bleed it would remain with the document all the way, no matter what. Let us see if I will remember to look for that hidden option next time. But wouldn't it be an idea to add that option in the document setup? Add bleed also when exporting, or something like that? Why do we add bleed to a document? Isn't that because of printing? Wouldn't it then be logical to let the bleed stay as an option when we export for print? Perhaps there are other reasons why this doesn't make sende, but as it is, I don't think it make much sense.
  24. I am not very into vector and AD was like a magic wand to me. All of a sudden I knew how to create vectorised artwork on the fly, so to speak. I thought. Then I was asked to work on a project which would have to be vector. I imported a logo I had made earlier and exported as an eps-file. All vector. I made an elegant brush which I thought was vector. And when it all looked as I wanted it to in AD, I exported it as .eps and sent it to the print shop - and was asked why I sent them a bitmap when they wanted vector. After lots of tearing my hair out accompanied by swearing in multiple languages, I finally learnt what was wrong. If you import an image into your artwork, using the tool for that, it is being transformed into a bitmap image, no matter what it was earlier. You need to open up the vector-file in AD as an individual file and then copy it and then paste it into your artwork. Then it remains a vector-file with all layers and info intact. And the brushes you create in AD are not vector, not even when you create it in Vector Persona. It is bitmap. The solution here was to export it and having it traced, something a very kind user helped me out with, since I don't have programmes with such a feature - a feature I hope will be added to AD soon. So, my question is whether it shouldn't come up a warning to us vector-dummies? I know, it might be annoying for the true pros to see pop ups notifying about such as they consider self-evident, but there are solutions to that. Either being able to turn that off or on in the preferences or having an option in the message: Don't show this message again. Just a thought. It would have saved me for a lot of frustration. And probably helped a lot of others as well.
