[High and low frequency layer wont blend]

Hello!
I watched and copied the video "start to finish - nature portrait" on this webside.. and as said I copied exactly what the man did on my own photo in the affinity proram.. BUT around 06:15 when he turn the high frequency layer on, mine is just gray... so the high frequency and the low frequency isn't blending, ist just the gray layer. Eventhough i've checked both layers.. what am I doing wrong?
