    The Crop Tool in Affinity Photo operates on the complete canvas/document.

    The Crop Tool in Affinity Designer works like you want; it is for cropping objects or layers.

    You can do the same kind of cropping in Affinity Photo by using the Rectangle Tool. For example, given this document:

    image.png.fdca0acf9aa8a5cea1fb93dc08f27c65.png

    I can draw a Rectangle with a Fill (any color):

    image.png.df62339408891ff16b5643323fbf9617.png

    And then I can drag the Rectangle layer in the Layers panel down onto the thumbnail of the Image layer:

    image.png.46b72800c71d533fec84c32c830f3e2a.png

    And the Image layer is now cropped.

    There are other alternatives, too.

    I can't seem to find a similar question in V2 using bing.com ... But this method doesn't work for V2 and I'm having the same problem!

    Hi Greg T,

    When I try this here it seems to work correctly. If you create 3 brand new PSD files using Affinity Photo and then try and place them all into a new document does the app crash? Which app was used to create your original PSD files?

    Thanks
    C

    Publisher 2.0.3 was used to create the PSD files.

    <windows 10 operating system>

    <MSIX version>

    in Affinity Photo 2.0.4....

    * create new document

    * click FILE

    * click PLACE...

    * CONTROL + CLICK 3 or more files... just do 12.

    * click OPEN

    * wait for timer to complete work...

    * once it's ready, start clicking on the page, it will CRASH.  (You can wait in-between, it will still crash even if you "give it time")

    This is suppose to be a "production" software, where you can do things faster without having to worry about work arounds.  Unless I am mistaken, this isn't a BETA or ALPHA version is it?  Imagine, you need to get 12 of these PSD files put into a photo NOW... and it just keeps crashing... you've gotta place each one separately and that's very very very time consuming!

  3. I open up Publisher... I always get "Would you like to install the update from 2.0.3 to 2.0.4?" ....If I click install, it causes the whole application to hang.  Okay... I wait for a few minutes watching my Speedify app to indicate there's a download happening... but nothing!

    How do I update Publisher ...or any of these installed MSIX applications I bought directly from Affinity Store?

    Solution:  Download MSIX file.. open it.. there should be a UPDATE button... click that.

    Yes, to install all 3 you need to run 3 MSIX files. But you can run them concurrently. With MSI/EXE you must run them separately, which takes at least 3 times longer than installing the MSIX. Perhaps more than 3 times, as the MSIX seem to install faster for me3.

    Yes, you have to let each update individually. However. each will auto-update (download, install, restart) automatically. With MSI/EXE you must download manually, and install manually. With MISX you just say "install" and it all happens withoiut further interaction from you.

    I've got MSIX installed... in publisher, I click Install and it just hangs forever.

    If I download the complete MSIX package, will it update itself with that ??

    Same problem as GREG T

    I have download  affinity-designer-2.0.3.msix,   affinity-publisher-2.0.3.msix,  affinity-photo-2.0.3.msix.

    When doubleclik any of them, the system ask me what program will open it.

    My OS: Windows 10, version 22H2 (compilation 19045.2486)

    Trial Version 2.0 run without problems.

    The solution currently is that you'll need to change the extension to have .msix then you'll be able to install.  It downloads without an extension.

    No, Publisher will only export a single PDF containing all the pages you specify. You could, though, specify a selection of pages in the Export dialog, then Open the resulting PDF file in Designer (giving 1 Artboard per page) and finally use the Export Persona to create multiple PDF files.

    Is there currently a quicker way?  I'm looking to export 1 page per pdf, but all the pages in publisher exported at the same time instead of having to go thru each page to export.

    Better use ctr+j to duplicate the selection as pixellayer and flip that.
    Or use the patch tool and use the rotation option.

    that don't make no sense... duplicate ...duplicates the whole image... if I flip it.. it goes to the far left side of the picture.  It's flipping the whole image and not the selection.

    Which Persona is Patch tool in?

  8. I don't know what to call this crash as I'm unsure why it crashed.

    do you think that having an open bug tracker will lead to quicker bug fixes, and if so why?

    If multiple people go to your room and leave items in it all over your room, later you come back to your room and you see tons of items all over the place.  How fast will you be able to find any one item?

    If instead everyone put their items into categories, and organized where they put their items.  Wouldn't it be much faster to find those items?

    Yes, bug fixing will be much faster because the information would be organized and you wouldn't have to spend a great majority of your time sorting and looking for relative bugs.  Good bug tracking tools will show you other bugs that are similar to the bug you are reporting so that you can also join in the discussion instead of creating a "new" bug.  I've heard Bugzilla is open source, free, and easy to use, although I've not tried that one.

    If you spend the majority of your time "looking" for relative bugs in a forums, you spend less time doing the bug fixing.   You also will probably not find bugs that really matter, but instead find whatever is on top of your forums.  The real bugs may get buried in a mess of other newer posts.

    I ran a War3Source TF2 server for several years.  I had a forums page.  I created one for gamers to put in what kind of races they would like me to create and I also had a bugs forum like Serif has going.  There has been many times that other newer posts would take priority over older posts, then I'll have users complain in the gaming servers about why I ignored their race or bug.  I eventually put up MantisBT and was able to get them to use it.  Then, my issues with the gamers went away because they could also see what I was currently working on and they could add new bugs and ideas to the list.  The list wouldn't get ignored anymore as all the unanswered posts would stay to the top of the list.

    Overall, the less time spending looking for bugs is more time fixing bugs.  They might not "code" any faster, but they will have more time to do it.

    Quick video attached – you will need to do the rotate and move better to get a better result.
    I used Ctrl+Drag to create the first duplicate, then used Power Duplicate to create the other copies.
    Then you can replace the images in the duplicates.

    So... I'll have to export publisher pages and do this in photo ?

    I was actually trying to re-arrange the pages themselves.... but I am guessing that isn't possible as there is only 2 settings... either front facing pages or single... nothing else.

    There are probably other ways of doing this, but I would arrange five Picture Frames as the spread and insert the image/PDF page etc I wanted in each one. (A slight drop shadow might help.) Then export the selection as an image.

    How do you arrange the five picture frames in Publisher?

    I'm having trouble visualising exactly what you want to do. Do you mean like the red spread below, rather than the green one? In either case, assuming you actually want to print this, how do you intend to bind the pages?

    Untitled.png.089981c451e2c1fff6564c399b06dd4c.png

    Yes the Red spread.

    I'm saying print, but more like it's for a picture to place on Esty for selling.  I want to show a spread of the pages without showing everything.

    I'm hoping I don't have to export every page to do this manually.. LOL.

  13. I'm using publisher to create a calendar with no facing pages.

    Some reason, there's a rect or square dotted selection box over the middle of the page.  It's not on any other page.  It doesn't show up in navigator.  I'm wondering how to get rid of it.

    I've tried to see / unsee every layer.  Layers don't affect it.

    How do I get rid of it?

    Solution: control + D    to deselect

  14. Lua and JavaScript are both popular scripting languages used in various software development projects. However, in the context of photo, design, and art based software, Lua may be a more suitable choice for some reasons:

    • Lua is designed to be small and efficient, making it well-suited for use in resource-intensive applications such as image and video processing.

    • Lua has a simple and easy-to-learn syntax, which makes it easy for designers and artists to write and maintain scripts without needing a computer science background.

    • Lua has a built-in garbage collector, which can help prevent memory leaks and other performance issues that can occur when working with large image and video files.

    JavaScript can be less efficient than Lua and it can be slow in certain situations. JavaScript is also a more complex language, which can make it more difficult to learn and use than Lua for non-technical users.

    There's a reason why LUA is used in World of Warcraft.  Computers with less processing power can handle LUA better.

    But you could, if you wanted to.

    You would have to uninstall the copy you installed from the Affinity Store, first.

    Yeah... and the possibility of getting the Universal License it much less possible because the in-app purchase requirements of the Microsoft Store to buy that probably only deals with that app and not all three apps.
