  1. Hi Mike, Thx for the link. I'm hardly a tech genius but the descriptions for the 3 Items don't lead me to believe that 'clearing' them will speed up PC (which has mysteriously stopped acting slow when Aff Publisher is open). At last now I can move forward - thx!
  2. Hello, Wierd - I've got a 220 page book in AP. PC Speed was never an issue - until yesterday. I searched the forum and found a thread from 2021 - suggestion was to hold the ctrl key down while starting - and the 'Clear User Data' window appears. Three boxes are checked in that window. 1 - Clear User Defaults (what does this mean? I'm GUESSING it will wipe out the custom Text Styles, paragraph settings etc - and I don't want to do that and start from scratch) 2 'Don't restore Window and Documents (no clue what this means - but I centainly don't want to lose 220 pages) 3. ' Reset Studio' (again - no clue - maybe return all settings back to default?) I looked in the Help DOCS - did a search for 'Clear User Data' - found zero info explaining what each of these options are.... So I come to the wise ones for for help. TIA, John K
  3. Walt - Thx AGAIN. R C-R - I appreciuate the tip - thx! Gotta say - the level of participation and timely responses in this forum is great - and that's important on multiple levels. John
  4. Hello Again Walt. Thx for respsonding. Yes, I forgot URL goes to generic Help Page. Even when you drill into topics the URL does not change - so I can't 'save' URL for particualr pages - which means I have to redo the 'search' / drill down process each time I want to review that spacific page - not a fan of that system frankly. Seperate Chapter files: I'm guessing no - just chapters in differnt Sections. Restart to Book setting: Yes that is set. MIKETO Thx for responding. 'Seeing' the DOC - I can't figure out how to attach a screenshot on this platform - and not sure if I knew how to attach AP file you'd want to plow through 200+ pages. 'Brackets' - They ARE tricky - and I've tried being careful - but ended up with Endnotes 'overlapping' - meaning 2 entries intermingled - several instances of that. That may have been due to trying to format notes as they were added - and having cursor in differnt position when returning to content - but I'm guessing. "Document Wide" setting : Yes - it's set to that "Revert All Endnotes to Document Settings. Then click in the endnote frame and Ensure the numbering is set to start at 1." - Will give that a try - THX! As always - I appreciate the help!
  5. Hello, I've chosen to use Endnotes Vs Footnotes I wasn't too concerned with adding the Endnotes in a haphazard manner since I read the numbering sequence could be updated. Apparently that's not so simple (for me at least). My Ednote page BEGINS with Endnote 9 - then a few notes later the number goes to 2 etc - several number are repeated as well). I've followed what Help Docs say - but the #'s on Endnotes page do not update. I also saw info saying Endnotes would be updated during Export process - I exported book - reviewed PDF of Endnotes page - the numbers are still messed up. I've been refering to Help Doc on this page: https://affinity.help/publisher2/en-US.lproj/index.html End-of-book endnote numbering When endnotes are configured (on the Positioning section of the Notes panel) to appear at the end of their book, their numbering will continue across chapters if you also set Restart every to Book in the panel's Numbering section. For example, if the first chapter's endnote bodies are numbered from 1 to 4, the second chapter's would then continue at 5, and so on. Automatic and manual updating While editing a book, numbering of global lists and end-of-book endnotes occurs only when you manually request it. To manually update page, list, note or all numbers: On the Books panel, select the chapters whose numbering you want to update.[ I SEE NO CHAPTER #'s under 'Book' tab in left panel - but in my Sections window I see all chapters listed ] From the Panel Preferences menu's Update Numbers submenu, select Page Numbers, List Numbers, Note Numbers or All Numbers. [I did this part - no change in numbering ] SO - suggestions please? Do I delete all Endnotes then redo manuelly? TIA - John
  6. Old Bruse & sfiedburg - apologies up front - I'm semi-illeterate when it comes to tech - so my questions and such are long winded. Old Bruce - thx for your response (and image). I appreciate the info on settings (Pagagrapg area for Leading - Character area set to auto). IF I understand your screen shot - as long as under Character > Positioning & Transform > Leading Override is set to Auto - it should adhere to the Leading setting as seen under Paragraph. NOTE: After clicking on Auto - the Leading Overide under Charater shows 15 - NOT "Auto" - hopefully that's correct because it's set to 15 under Paragraph > Leading. sfriedberg - I believe your explanation about ReSizing text frames is the likely, underling culprit - in my case. THX for adding your perspective. Again - appreciation for you both John
  7. Hello, I'm 200 pages into formatting my book and all of a sudden I can not get text size and Leading spacing to cooperate/coordinate on a 2-3 pages. It acts like I've got some weird setting set up for this particualar chuck of text which overlaps into 2 seperate pages. If I edit the text size and leading size so it's correct on one paragraph or page it AUTOMATICALLY screws up the text size/leading before or after the section I just fixed. The font size might drop from a 12 to a 7 - or if I select 12 pt size the rest automatically turns into 20. When I edit the Leading back to 15 the font size changes. The problem often happens mid-sentence. I've copied the weird text > put in Google Docs and made everything uniform with near zero formatting > downloaded it (doc.x)- Placed it - deleted the weird text > & voila - it's screwed up again. I'm using the exact same Master page throughout the book - and there is no 'duplicate' master applied to those pages. I've tried highlighling the weird text - apllied my 'Normal' Text Styles (example 'Normal Text' = Calibri, regular, 12 pt, 15 Leading) - but it does not respond (meaning either the text size is wrong- or the leading is wrong). The problem existed with BOTH the newest software version (2.0.4.) and the previous one. Using Windows 11. After easily investing two hours on this I finally got it straighten out - but don't ask me how... Any ideas on what might have caused this?
  8. Hello Again Walt, See the screenshot below. I 'looked' under Decorations earlier - changed it to NONE (underlines) when editing Style - that did not seem to do anything (and I hope is doesn't mean I won't ABLE to add an underline anywhere). What I DID do - that MAY have solved the problem was to change the Decorations 'Enabled' setting to UN-Ticked. At the moment the last lines are no longer underlained. Personally - If you look at the screen shot - it does not 'look' (to me) as if ANY decoration has been set up - so that is confusing to me (doesn't take much). PS: Kinda wish that Enabled 'icon' [the dash] was a CHECKMARK when enabled and blank when it wasn't). APPRECIATE YOUR TIMELY RESPONSE Walt! John
  9. Hello, I'm formating a non-fiction book. I've set up a number of Text Styles - including for Indented paragraphs and for First paragraphs (no indent). For some reason - when I apply these Text Style(s) to the text I'm formatting I end up with the LAST Sentence or every paragraph underlined. NOTE: I've tried using the Help Pages's SEARCH several times with zero results: One example 'underlining' Would Appreciate some guidance. TIA
  10. NPM & Brain - THANKS for the speedy replies - and the info which will DEFINITELY lower my blood pressure. Regards, John
  11. Frustrated Newbie here - Being new I naturally need to refer to How To information. I found an Affinity Publishe 'help' page which listed everything I think I'd ever need - but the information is inaccurate. For example- Glyphs. According to the instruction here: https://affinity.help/publisher/en-US.lproj/index.html it says: About the Glyph Browser panel This panel is hidden by default. It can be switched on via View>Studio. ----------- I do NOT see 'Studio' under 'VIEW' tab - I see it under WINDOW tab - and it does lead to an option to switch Gylph browser on - or anything about glyphs. I'm on Windows 11 - This leads me to another issue - I dont believe any of the tutorial info indicates whether they're refering to MAC - or Windows/PC. Including that info at the start of your tutorials would be greatly appreciated and save people a lot of time and angst. Pls advise, TIA John Kelly PS: PLEASE - IF there IS a list like this (https://affinity.help/publisher/en-US.lproj/index.html ) which is either Updated - or for Windows - please provide a link to where I can find it.
  12. Twolane - thx for additional info - and link to what appears to be a thorough training on Master Pages (which lead me to her other tutorials - sweet!)
  13. Hey Walt - Happy Holidays. First - I appreciate you responding - especially this fast. I understand your instructions that I'm ABLE to define those edits on the doc/templates they've provided. That 's understood. The fact that none of templates come in the 6X9 size (which is a very common book size) - it makes me wonder if I'm supposed to be using a slightly larger size. I appreciate you giving me another piece to the puzzle. Regards, John
  14. Newbie of course... I'm doing a 6" x 9" (152.4 mm X 228.6mm) book - a standard size in U.S. I've looked for an appropriate option in Affinity Publisher under FILE > NEW - but none of the options under PRINT match the demensions I need - which make zero sense to me. Do I create a new template and give it the dimensions I need - OR - 'Resize' the book once all the formatting work and text have been added? I've looked high and low for a written tutorial/manual under Help - no luck. Does one exist? Even the 'Basic' tutorial videos don't provide an answer that I can find. Also - where can I learn the differnces between - for example - A3 and a B3 (both under Print). TIA John
