  1. Hello All,

These all seem like pretty solid suggestions. I'm not as well versed with Publisher as I am with Designer and Photo, so I will make my way with familiarizing myself with each of these suggested methods and hopefully, I will be able to perform them correctly and then determine which would work best for me here.

Greatly appreciate all of the input thus far @thomaso @walt.farrell @MikeTO

    Thank You.

  2. Hey Everyone,

Is there a way to custom-number the pages within the master setup in Publisher? In the book that I am currently putting together, I'm having the master to NOT display on the even pages, but I STILL want the counting sequence to show up as normal on all of the odd pages. (as if the even pages do not exist) So in other words - I want the numbers that show up on every odd page, to increase numerically by 1. Just like normal as if every page was being counted The problem I have is that I can't find a way to set the numbering sequence to skip every other page and still count as normal. I'm still getting 1,3.5, etc.

Is there a way to skip every other page AND have the numbered pages still count by just 1? I do still want the master numbering sequence to count by 1s, I just want it to skip every other page while doing so.

I hope that wasn't too confusing.
    Thanx Everybody!

    1. Align Centre Horzontally
    2. Align Middle Vertically
    3. Make Same Width
    4. Make Same Height

Thank You for that @Hangman!! You kicked me in the right direction. The trick to making this work is that you can't do all 4 steps back to back.

I was able to get all layers perfectly matched - but - I have to 'Apply' the 'Width' and 'Height' steps >Seperately< for it to come out correctly. If that is what you meant then I just didn't pick up on it. Initially, I performed all 4 steps without interruption.

    Greatly Appreciate the help!

PS- I don't know how but, the video that YOU included... I thought it was the video that I included before... So I didn't bother to watch it before I just responded. LOL. --- So NOW I see what you did. And if I'm looking at this right, it worked for you without separately 'Applying'. For some reason, I had to apply Width first and THEN do the Height.

    Hi @Wayne Burrows,

From your screen recording it certainly doesn't look as though all groups end up the same height, though they are quite possibly the same width...

If they're not all the same width and/or height, are you able to upload the file in question so we can take a closer look...

    Hi @Hangman,

You are correct. It actually made them all equal both ways. I was just too tired to notice it. Plus I didn't bother checking the measurements because 'it appeared' that they were all had different dimensions but in actuality, they were all just in different locations, but all equal nonetheless. I've attached the eps file. It is well past my bedtime so I'm calling it a night.

If you come across a streamlined method that puts them all in the same place, let me know.

    Thanks!

  4. Hello All,

After reading everything within this thread, I am under the assumption that there is still no way to resize multiple different-sized layers all at once. Do I have that correct or does an available feature exist now? Just to make sure that I am on the same page with the topic of this post, I included a short video to show what I am trying to accomplish.

    Thanks!

Unless (for example) they are in a group and you rasterise the group

You touched on something that I didn't realize. Any time I see layers being rasterized or have done it myself, it's always from layers that have been grouped. So that is what i was referring to. I haven't gotten to a point yet of needing to rasterize anything other than multiple layers that I have 'Grouped'. So if you are saying that both results are the same when a >group< has been rasterized, then I get it now. If you are not saying that, then I am still in the same place as before.

I can't even picture a need to rasterize individual layers seperately. Apparently, the need does exist by what you have just told me, (that's if I am understanding you correctly) but so far, that has not been the case for me.

  6. Hey All,

Don't both do the exact same thing?

They both combine all 'included' layers into one single Pixel layer - Correct? I am going to assume that I am >incorrect< and that there truly is a difference in the end result between the two - but I'm just not seeing how so far. Can someone please fill me in on how the end results are indeed different so that when the time comes that I need to know, I will choose the correct function.

    Thanks All,

Those would be raster brushes, so in Designer you would need to look in the Pixel Persona to see or use them.

I completely forgot that he works in Photo. Right after I uploaded this post I went into Affinity to get started with a project and immediately I saw ALL of the brushes that I have been trying to install in Designer, were patiently sitting in Photo waiting for me. Lol.

#MysterySolved (it was a mystery for ME anyway) 🤣

    Thanks Walt!

  8. Hello All,

I'm working on a Windows desktop and trying to get back into the swing of things after leaving this alone for a few months. For some reason, I can't get any brushes to install in Designer after trying several times. I've tried from the folder that the brushes are sitting in as well as trying to pull them in from within both Designer apps. After each attempt, both platforms tell me that they've been successfully installed but when I go to brushes, they are never there. I've closed the programs and started them up again and still, not there. (Brushes from IAMRENSI as well as some others that I have come across over the past year)

I always use the latest available beta versions when I do any work in Affinity and after I couldn't get a couple to install in Designer beta, I opened up V2.3, but still nothing.

I've tried pulling up recent discussions on this topic but haven't run across anything helpful. The only thing that I haven't tried yet is uninstalling and reinstalling. Would anyone out there happen to know what my issue is? If I left out any pertinent info, please let me know.

    Thanx!

  9. Hello All,

Just when I was starting to get the hang of working in the Affinity apps, I had to completely pivot and tend to other things, and now that I'm trying to get back in the swing of things months later... I barely remember a thing. 😂

I'm working on a project that I created in AD a few months ago and every layer has a Layer Effect that I would like to delete from each layer - is there a simple & fast way of getting this done?

    Thanks!!

Why such a drastic reduction in resolution? Pictures this small fit on my watch display!

This world of pixels and resolutions is all pretty foreign to me. All I can say is that the covers for the books that I have created in Affinity are all 8.5 in by 11 in, which translates to roughly 2635 px by 3375 px or so. KDP requires images to be considerably smaller in size in order to include them in their A+ Content displays. Anywhere between 1000px and 300 px for the most part. So that is all I can tell everybody because that is all I know. Lol. I'm just trying to find a way to reduce the size of my images to what's acceptable w/o them looking so crappy once they're uploaded to Amazon.

Why not simply output at a high DPI/PPI setting?

You have just asked me a question that's above my 'knowledge pay grade' my friend.

If that's a suitable remedy for what I'm trying to accomplish here, please fill me in on how I go about doing that. I've just started doing my YT research on it so maybe I'll trip across how to make that happen, but no luck thus far.

    Thanx!

  12. Hello Everybody,

The title pretty much says it all. 😉

Would anyone know of an online site that is pretty good at getting this done - or a way to get this done using one of Affinity's platforms? What I've done so far is coming out pretty pixelated & really isn't looking too professional. Lol. I'm in the process of putting my A+ content together for my puzzle books that I am FINALLY finished working on and I need to reduce the size of some images down to around 300 by 300 px, and similar.

Any and All assistance would be More than appreciated! Thank!

  13. I no longer see 'Transform objects separately' / I no longer see 'Document setup' / Also, I no longer have access to the row that pops up when you're working with objects, has vanished as well so I can only adjust the Fill and/or Stroke from my studio.

I inadvertently hit a shortcut on my keyboard and practically everything went 'Poof'. I was able to bring back my studios but that's about it. I can't figure out where to go to bring those other features back up. I've even tried resetting it all back to default and I'm still unable to find them.

A little assistance would be MORE THAN appreciated!!

    Thanks!

My sister publishes with KDP and KDP can be rage inducing at times.

This is my very first experience with uploading files to KDP and I can SO feel your sister's pain with this mess.

I chose 'Bleed' for these books so I shouldn't be going through any of this foolishness with the background images. How their automated problem-sniffer is acting isn't making any kind of sense.

I guess the only solace I can get from this is knowing that KDP isn't singling me out to harass. Lol

If so, it is worth checking that the clipped text frame does not have boundaries extending the safe zone (even if there were no characters rendered beyond it).

That's not the issue at all. In my screenshot, the text boundary doesn't get anywhere near the restricted area.

I believe KDP's 'Print Preview' feature is currently experiencing a nervous breakdown because there were pages of mine that were not flagged and some of my lettering CLEARLY breached KDP's margins. And there were other pages where my lettering didn't get close to their boundaries, BUT my background images went to the edge of the pages and KDP would not allow those particular pages to be cleared. I had to remove the background images in order for those particular pages to pass their smell test. The placement of the letters had absolutely nothing to do with it. So as far as I'm concerned, KDP's automated violation checker is extremely faulty right now. #MyOpinion

PS - I just remembered, I actually used the 'Subtract' boolean feature to create those see-thru letters, so no boundaries were part of that page anyway.

I would use TIFFs or PNGs to avoid jpeg artifacts.

It worked for 'Thank you for' but not for the other - for some stupid reason. I then tried 'Solutions' in PNG and it still resulted in an error. I've tried a myriad of different things to try to keep some sort of an effect for that page but it's rejected everything and it's just not making any sense to me at all as to why.

So... This morning I took my LAST stab at reconfiguring some sort of a see-thru effect 'that falls well within the page's boundaries and guess what? It STILL didn't work so I give up. I'm going to go with a plain vanilla page just so I can get this over and done with.

All I can think of is that you have used a Text Frame for the "Solutions Begin..." and the "Thank you for...." text that is going out to, or passed, the edge of the page.

I just double-checked and the frames aren't the issue. They fall within the permitted boundaries.

I'm going to save both pages as JPGs, insert them back into the PDF and upload it that way to see if I get a more favorable result.

  18. I'm trying to upload my puzzle book to KDP and after jumping through COUNTLESS hoops, I'm down to these last two errors... That DON'T exist! Could somebody help me out and let me know how to get past this foolishness? I've been playing around with this crap for over 2 days now and I have come to the conclusion that the problem ISN'T me.

    Thanks!

I would recommend to inspect the layers individually in Photo, using channels panel and focus on alpha.
This will allow to see if the alpha channel has been edited by a brush which probably leaves some visible traces.

I know of the channels panel but working with it is still over my head for right now. I've saved a handful of YT videos that goes over using the channels panel though, so I can look into it and try out what you described.

    Thanks
