  1. I know what a .dds file is, and I know there are other ways to deal with it. But not being able to import/export from Affinity Photo is really inconvenient and slows down my workflow massively. There are multiple plugins for photoshop to deal with this file format, but as of now there's absolutely no way to open a .dds file in AP directly other than converting it first, which as I mentioned before, really slows things down and makes the whole program really inconvenient.
  2. Well that sucks to hear. Good to know the technical information behind it, although I really hope it changes at some point. This issue combined with not being able to paste directly into an alpha channel makes dealing with the alpha channels really obnoxious at the moment. I know there are ways around pasting into an alpha channel but unfortunately no way to fix the black spots
  3. It's crazy to me honestly. It's such a commonly used file format for this kinda work and it's such a big thing keeping me from working in affinity instead of just booting up photoshop or like you said, even GIMP. Even indirect support(The ability to use photoshop's file format plugins) would be huge.
  4. For whatever reason. Saving a png with an alpha layer actively deletes the pixels that were made transparent by the alpha layer. I'm well aware the point of an alpha layer at least traditionally is transparency. But if I save a PNG in Photoshop with an alpha layer, I can open that image in any editor and enable or disable the alpha layer at will in order to show the parts of the image that were made transparent. In Affinity Photo, when I save with an alpha layer, any pixels that were made transparent are actively deleted from the main layers, meaning that there is just an empty black spot where the alpha layer is if you decide to disable the alpha layer. This makes absolutely no sense given Photo 2's emphasis on non-destructive editing. I understand that it might save on file size, however for that kind of decision it should be at the very least in the export dialog. I need to keep the data that was made transparent by the alpha layer, I don't want it deleted, I just want it hidden until I choose to unhide it again. Unfortunately yet another thing that puts Photoshop ahead for the moment, that I'm hoping is fixed.
  5. 2017. I can't actually believe this has been requested since 2017 and Affinity is STILL ignoring it.
  6. Ridiculous that threads like this have existed for YEARS and have been entirely ignored by Affinity. What's the deal? Why are they so intent on ignoring a clearly very popular request? It's not like games are some niche thing anymore. DDS support is huge and is currently keeping a lot of people locked to photoshop. I don't understand why we can't at LEAST get a response. If they just showed up and told us "No, we aren't adding dds support because we hate money" then at least there would be an answer, it's just that they keep ignoring it.
  7. No idea if this is a thing, but google says it isn't so I'm here to ask about it. as a photoshop refugee, I would love to see the option to change the zoom functionality from Ctrl+Scroll to Alt+Scroll. I have so much muscle memory built up that trying to switch over to Ctrl+Scroll is monumental at this point. More flexibility with the shortcuts in general would be appreciated but this is one thing I would love to see.
  8. I get that not every feature can be implemented. And there has to be concessions made in places, and that affinity isn't a huge company yet. But the fact that there STILL isn't any sort of .dds support at this point is crazy considering just how common that file type is in 3d applications. I bought Photo 2, but still find myself using photoshop more purely because I can work with the format I need to work with in photoshop through a plugin. There doesn't even need to be native support. If the intel or nvidia plugin for photoshop could be used on photo that would fix the issue perfectly. It's just the fact that there's NO support for .dds files that makes it very hard to actually switch. This isn't a new request either, I've seen people asking for this since 2018. I get that it isn't a very glamorous or advertiser friendly feature. But Photoshop got its userbase by unfortunately being the best option available, and being the best option means working for as many people as possible in as many situations as possible. Basically, in short. We need .dds support, it's necessary at this point, whether that be through supporting existing plugins or adding native support is irrelevant.
