Disable Anti-Aliasing when creating shapes
colindun replied to cmaymi's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on iPad Questions
Hmm. I've done searches previously and, despite it being discussed 'a thousand times' haven't found the topic or a solution.. Maybe this thousand-and-one discussion will do the job ;0) Puzzled by what you mean 'an honest question'. Odd. Onywise, thanks for that list of suggestions. I don't understand the first. Where do I find 'forced pixel alignment' and 'deactivate move by whole pixels'? I *do* use the second - that doesn't work for me. I *do* use the third - that doesn't work for me. the fourth seems . . a tiresome and longwinded chore Export isn't the issue, it's designing without anti-aliasing that is I *do* use the sixth - that doesn't work for me. I *do* use the seventh - that doesn't work for me. I *do* use the eighth - that doesn't work for me. Number nine may be worth a try I don't use pixel brushes Photo has a pixel tool? I did not know that. I'll take a look, but amn't sure how that would work with shapes and text I don't use Publisher at all. Thanks for the suggestions, though. It just seems so difficult to resolve this when every other bitmap editor I've ever used just seem to create anti-alias free shapes without having to tinker with so many settings. Most frustrating. -
Aha. A good thought. I've just tried this again by enabling and disabling what I would call professional fonts, and AP2 doesn't crash. So it appears to be an issue with third-party fonts, and only some of them. Obviously that means it's unlikely to be an AP2 issue at all but something wrong with the third-party font. I do try to use only good quality reputable fonts, but I clearly need to be a bit more choosy.

If I enable or disable a font in Front Book whilst running Affinity Photo 2, AP2 crashes. This has now happened 3 times. >> Are you using the latest release version? Affinity Photo 2.0.4 >> Does it happen for a new document? Yes, it does. >>What is your operating system and version? Mac OS Big Sur 11.7.1 on a Late 2015 iMac Retina 5k 27" >> Is hardware acceleration (in Preferences > Performance) ON or OFF ? (and have you tried the other setting?) No such setting in Big Sur, or at least not on my Mac. >> What happened for you (and what you expected to happen). Provide a recipe for creating the problem (step-by-step what you did) 1) Create a new document. 2) Add some Artistic Text. 3) Choose a font for it. 4) Launch Font Book. Switch a font from Disabled to Enabled. 5) Affinity Photo crashes. >> Any unusual hardware (like tablets or external monitors or drives that may affect things) or relevant other applications like font managers or display managers. I use an old Wacom Graphire tablet with Connect My Tablet app to get it to work properly. However, this problem did not happen with AP1, and I was running the same tablet app.

Disable Anti-Aliasing when creating shapes
colindun replied to cmaymi's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on iPad Questions
March 2023 now, and I'm still getting odd anti-aliasing around shapes even when working in pixels and the shapes are whole pixel sizes. I'd hoped v2 would resolve the issue, but having upgraded it seems not. Or am, I being dense and missing something? -
Yeah, I do that, thanks, but it is a bit of a faff ;0) I really loved and miss the Photoshop 'duplicate' option which just allowed you to create a copy of the working document on screen so you could tinker, crop, etc, etc, without risking damage to the master. Much quicker and less prone to muddle than 'save as'.
-
I often like to create a duplicate document to work on so I can ensure I don't accidentally edit an original and accidentally save it. I use 'new from clipboard' but this doesn't copy the guides from the original document. Is there way to copy the guides across too? I know I can do a 'save as' but that's a bit of a faff.

What is it that controls anti-aliasing of vector objects in Affinity Photo? I'm working on some simple vector shapes, aligning them with guides, but when I zoom in the edges of the vector shapes appear to be anti-aliased and not aligning precisely with the guides. Is there a way to switch off that anti-aliasing? Ta.

Command + 1 shows the file at 100%, but having to to hit that every time I open a file is annoying. AP always opens a new file to fill the window. I know that the 100% size is subjective depending on screen sizes, but that doesn't mean that a 'set 100% size on my screen' as the default view rather than the 'fill window' is a daft thing to want ;0}

Has there been any progress on this? As a web designer I need to see the actual size of images and the fact it opens at 'fit' size by default is problematic. When I open an image I want to see it at actual size so automatically hit Command + 1 too show the image at 100%, but because the View Tool is automatically selected by default all this does is make the image or layer 10% opacity. I have to remember to select the Move Tool before I use the keyboard shortcut and often forget to do so. Drives me nuts. Also I'd *love* there to be an option to *disable* the 'fit to view' option when clicking on a layer name in the Layers palette. After nearly a year of using AP full time my muscle memory still hasn't mastered being extra careful in selecting a layer in the Layers palette so as not to change the view size. I'm always accidentally clicking on the 'wrong' bit of the layer name and triggering 'fit'. My fault, no doubt, but I'd love to be able to disable this feature.

I'm having a similar problem on my Mac. I'm scanning in some pictures and my Image Capture software saves the scans as .HEIC files. Affinity Photo is crashing when trying too open these. I've had to open them in Preview and change the format too JPEG or TIFF before AP will open them without crashing.

Thanks. I used the Group as a Mask because when I tried to use the mask on the group nothing happened. I found that dragging the icon of the group onto the mask layer icon I got the effect that I wanted. How do you get a mask on a group to work? When I drag the mask layer icon onto the group it goes (into* the group instead of masking it.

AP - enlarging canvas size and moved guides
colindun replied to colindun's topic in Feedback for Affinity Photo V1 on Desktop
Yup. Definitely a feature request, as it's a faff to have to realign the guides. -
I had desperately missed the ability to draw and scale an object from the centre. I assumed that clicking on the ‘Enable Transform Origin' button would permit scaling from the centre but it didn’t. Then I found that it *did* if I held down command+shift (Mac). It’s such a relief to discover this I just had to share it in case others have been hunting for this through the manual without success ;0)
-
If I select the centre as the origin for enlarging the canvas size when it resizes the objects in the document remain centred, but the guides aren’t, so relatively the guides I had aligned with the object no longer align. Is there a way to enlarge a canvas and keep the guides aligned relative to the objects on the document?

I quite often want to add a feather to an image to create a vignette effect. However, when adding a Select > Feather or using FX Gaussian Blur on a mask, the selection feathers at the window edge even if there is image data outside the edge of the windows. This leads to an add little fade at the edge that I don't want. I want there to be no fade where the photo extends beyond the window. Is there a way to achieve this? Ta. Edited: ** Whoops. Wrong category, but I can't see a way to move this to the Affinity Photo forum. **
