Unable to get clean freehand selection
mvanzyl replied to mvanzyl's topic in Affinity on iPad Questions
Please disregard. I discovered how to create a mask from a selection without having to click “refine mask”. If anyone is curious, with the selection active, simply go to the layer panel, click the plus sign and “Mask Layer” from the drop down. This will not create an empty mask layer, it will automatically use the selection as the new mask layer. -
When I try and make a freehand selection, there is always a slight feather around the edges after I click “refine selection”. I have tried all settings for feather, border, ramp, etc to get rid of this so I can have a sharp selection shape but can not find a way to do it. Any help would be appreciated. Screenshots attached.

Gradient map, add color stop transparency
mvanzyl replied to mvanzyl's topic in Affinity on iPad Questions
Ahh, yes! A blend range on the gradient map layer would do the exact same thing. Duh! Thank you! -
Gradient map, add color stop transparency
mvanzyl replied to mvanzyl's topic in Affinity on iPad Questions
Literally any image where you want to add color(s) to one luminosity range but ignore others would work. I attached a beach image. Being able to use a gradient map to add, for example, one color to the highlights, one to the shadows, but be able to place a mid tones color node and set it as transparent so the mid tones are unaffected by the gradient would be awesome. You could then move the nodes around on the slider to adjust what ranges are or are not affected. Currently this is not possible using gradient map (ALL luminosity ranges must be affected by the colors of a gradient map). I realize this could probably be done with multiple luminosity or hue masks, but allowing the gradient map to do this all in one adjustment would eliminate layers/steps needed for the same result. -
Gradient map, add color stop transparency
mvanzyl replied to mvanzyl's topic in Affinity on iPad Questions
Sure thing. Below I have screenshots of the gradient map color selector on iPad. When you select a color stop (fig 1), and then select the color of that stop (fig 2), you have a color selector appear. If this color selector also had an opacity slider (fig 3), that would be a welcome improvement to the gradient maps. -
AP offers a perspective transform, but does not offer perspective guides (1,2,3 point, isometric, etc). Many competitors offer guides with snapping options built in that makes creating, aligning, and/or adjusting perspective much easier. This has been a requested feature for many years (see below) in V1 and does not yet seem to be anywhere in Designer or Photo for V2....

Importing DNG into Develop Persona loses all adjustments.
mvanzyl replied to mvanzyl's topic in Affinity on iPad Questions
I am not certain how the data is linked to the file in Lightroom, however all the browsers and file managers display the image with the adjustments, so I would assume it is baked into the metadata somehow. -
When using Affinity Photo and the gradient fill, you can select each color stop and adjust its color and also its opacity. When using the gradient map filter, you can add and adjust the color of stops, but there is NO option to adjust the opacity of each stop. For example if I want to add a gradient map filter and have the shadows be black and the highlights be unaffected (transparent on the gradient map), this is currently impossible. I am forced to choose a color for the highlights. This appears to be a feature requested previously (see below), but its absence in V2 has me asking again if this is currently being worked on.

Every time I import a DNG into the Develop Persona that has previously had edits done to it in another software like Lightroom, all adjustments to color/crop/exposure are lost and the base unedited DNG file is displayed. All other programs like browsers, file managers and social media can display an edited DNG properly, it seems to be only Affinity Photo that can not process and display the adjustments made to the file. Is there a setting I can change so that importing a DNG will maintain these adjustments? It seems strange that Affinity can't read the metadata of the file and display it as intended.

While masking off areas of an image in the Develop Persona using the brush, there is a red overly so you can easily see what areas of the image your mask is affecting. This is NOT offered in the Photo Persona unless you use the quick mask feature, which appears to allow you to mask out an area before applying the adjustment, but if you want to mask an adjustment or filter after it has been applied, it seems you are not able to have this red overlay. Please add this overlay to be an option in the Photo Persona while masking. This would be especially useful after applying adjustments like clarity or curves because it is currently very difficult to see what specific area is being affected while painting on these adjustment mask layers. I have included an image below showing an example of the feature from another software provider. (the current method I found to do this in Photo V2 is very cumbersome and difficult)
