Fixed in 2.3.0 - thank goodness for that as this bug, when it bit, totally broke Affinity's fluidity. Thanks for the fix, Serif.

Thanks for reporting this.
This is something we already have logged with the Developers.  I'll give that report a nudge and leave a link back to this thread  

Once a grid preset is created (using the menu 'View/Grid and Axis'), Affinity 2 needs to give people the ability to set that preset as a default - so that when the software is reopened and a new image opened, that preset grid can instantly be made visible using the shortcut Cmd and '   .
This would restore a time-saving function lost between versions 1 and 2.

Yes, hopefully Serif will be able to give this some love in due course, it's not so much a feature request as a regression from version one.

This is by design, i've provided a screenshot below of an excerpt from the help notes, pasting as an image layer helps preserve the original content of the image, including the resolution and colour space.

This is more of a feature request/improvement than a bug, so i've moved this thread over to feedback.
This is also something that we currently have logged internally as an improvement, so it's possible that this will be added in a future update. 🙂

This is something I prefer as well. I noticed it sometimes is the zoom-level. but more often then not I need to open the manager. I love the way V1 handles grids more because of many files I open and close in an hour.
Beyond this, keep up all the great work.

In V1 I could simply toggle grid visibility with shortcut - it worked for all images. But in V2 toggling doesn't work for newly opened files - I must first open grid dialog, select preset and then toggling works. Why this extra step? This is stupid, massively counterproductive, annoying and unintuitive. 99% of times I just want deafult preset to be loaded. Can this be done or is it again Serif being Serif?

I'm used to switch on the grid frequently. Unfortunately in V2 the grid is no longer showing up. I tried both shortcuts, Ctrl+' and Ctrl+Shift+' but no success. How can I get it working?

I use a German version of Affinity Photo 2.0. When in Develop Person I chose View (Ansicht in German) and than Grid (Raster einblenden) nothing appears. What am I doing wrong?

Thank you for this - it is very clear and I hope that those who are complaining all read it in order to understand the rationale. I think the vast majority understand the difficulties and that Serif is still a remarkably small outfit. I look forward to the V1 to V2 upgrade 'thank you' bundle. 😀

Ah! thanks for this. The four channels above it, with control-clicks, behave in a different way and had led me astray. I was then control-clicking on the adjustment alpha channel's icon and that's inert. I needed to click to the right of the icon.

A perlin noise filter that is able to randomise what it generates each time - is that something for the future?

I think it would be better if you could manually enter the seed for the algorithm.  That would make it easier to reproduce the same effect as you did last time, if you so choose.  There should also be a button to randomize the seed, of course, but you should be able to reproduce it more-or-less exactly if you need to.

the Perlin Noise function in Affinity is adequate for Clouds in Photoshop (Elements) and is used to design textures such as clouds, water surfaces, fire, smoke, etc. Now I noticed that in Affinity the fractal noise function is not randomly produced: No matter how many times I fill a level and then go to Filter -> Noise -> Perlin Noise: The result always remains the same.
But if I choose in Photoshop Elements Render -> Clouds, the result is always random.

Hi, you are correct, currently only the beginners videos are subtitled. Transcribing the 120+ regular videos would be quite a task as none of them are scripted. Transcription services are available at a cost, and I agree it would be beneficial for viewers who don't understand English, but it's something we would have to look into and make an informed decision about. Sorry I can't be of more help right now, but I understand the problem.

Markus, although that issue would need to be looked at, it looks like you are trying to remove the effect of an adjustment layer using the undo brush - is that correct?
 
If so, I don't believe the undo brush was really meant for that - it's more for removing destructive operations like filter effects, layer merges, rasterised effects etc. If you want to mask the adjustment's effect you can simply grab the Paint Brush Tool and paint onto the adjustment layer with a pure black (or various shades of grey to control the strength).
 
One example of using the undo brush is after something like the dust & scratches filter - you can go back and restore detail to areas blurred by the filter.

Unfortunately, it came too late for me. I downloaded 1.5.2 about 45 minutes before I saw the notice, launched it, & discovered all my customizations were gone. My Assets were preserved, which is fortunate because that is just about the only thing I did not export to a folder I maintain as a "just in case" precaution against anything that might wipe out my custom settings. I also save my keyboard shortcuts to that folder, so that much was easy to fix. I also took a screenshot of my customized main toolbar layout, which helped me restore that.
 
I have also (I think) imported all my custom stuff that I exported, so things are more or less OK, but I am considering restoring v 1.5.1 & the entire ~/Library/Containers/com.seriflabs.affinitydesigner folder from my Time Machine backups, which I think will "undo" all the problems. (Staff: do you see any problems with doing this?)

So ok.. I actually agree with you - although I would appreciate it if you treated us with the respect with which we treat you (and all users)..
 
As I (and Mark, and others) have said many times - this a restriction of the beta. We disable it because we do not want the noise created by 10,000 old, broken graphics drivers at this point in the beta. Surely you can understand how what we are trying to do here is reasonable and temporary?
 
I will ask the Windows team if they can add some method for beta testers to "opt in" to non-Aero in future..

This is by design. Here's a video tutorial that explains how drop zones work in the Layers panel. The video is for Designer but it also applies to Photo.
