What other bat file? I might be able to modify mine.
Before yours I used this:
start /b affinityphoto2.exe %1
exit

I could not get it to close so set it to run minimised and close when you exit Affinity.
With the "other" bat I don't have this behaviour, I just wanted to notify it to you.
I know about the new installers, thanks anyway.

I tried your bat. It works, but the "dos-like window" (sorry for my technical ignorance) doesn't close by itself.

You deserve a medal. This worked a treat with ACDSee Ultimate Studio 2023 & DXO Photolab 5. Thanks for this hint.
Truth be told, it's something I too learned on this forum yesterday 😀
Thanks anyway.

For those wanting to run PhotoPlus from within DAM applications please check this post
I don't understand...why should anyone use this launcher instead of the .bat file? - I'm serious.
I read this launcher will have to be updated after every serif update, while the .bat will work forever (or at least until serif doesn't change the exe in the appdata\local\microsoft\windowsapp folder) and doesn't need to mess with authorizations.

some application (like DXO Photo Lab) don't allow bat-files to be selected out of the box for exporting...
Hi Ludger.
If you type "*" and press enter when you are in the folder with the .bat file, you remove the filter that shows only .exe files. Then you can select the .bat file.
It's the same with FastStone Image Viewer and DXO Photolab - and every other sw that works the same way.

The solution with the *.bat file reminded me to DOS ...
Over time I've seen / done a lot of things, but to install AP2 by default into a 'save' folder / aera, where users have no access to, is plain silly !!
I don't like the choice to follow the app way too. I hope Serif will make soon an official patch to solve this, even if for now I can continue to work with RawTherapee and FastStone.

kid? I would love to be still one 😂
please, your and my ages are irrilevant.
crybaby.

you're just a crybaby, interested in whining and not in solving the problem.
Uninstall the sw and ask for a refund. that's easy enough?

Reading comprehension is essential and not your strength.
I and many others did not buy this software to do bat file hack nonsense for it to work as it should out of the box.
No one buys a car and then is told for the reverse gears to work, you need to get out of the car and do ten jumping jacks.
Affinity photo 1 works as it should, there is no reason why Affinity photo 2 should not work the same way. No need to bat or rat file nonsense on the end users part.
This could be justified if this software was designed and developed by someone in their spare time in their basement and given out for a few dollars for people to use under their own discretion. But this is not the case.
This should have been on top of their checklist before launching this crippled software.
At least on serifs part they could upload a video to walk people through the bat rat hack process, but I don't think this would happen, do you know why, because no one would purchase the software if they saw that.
I already wrote this problem (the export from other softwares) should be addressed by Serif. Apart from it, ap2 works fine.
you're making it just too tragical about this single problem and refuse to spend 3 seconds to create this .bat and solve it, while waiting for the official solution.
and please, stop calling "hack" this procedure. you have to create a .txt file, copy 2 lines of text in it and renaming it to .bat.

As I said in my posts. No one has time for this hack nonsense. And I don't have time for your childish responses.
Serif surely has to fix these problem, but the .bat file is a very simple and effective solution. with the time it took you to write all your complaints you would have already solved the problem and be using ap2.

Excuse me, I don't waste anybodies time.
I didn't save it as *.txt, but as *.bat, exactly like it was described.Affinity creates a problem and you are telling me something about MS ???
I don't think he was referring to you.

type "*" where you have to tyype the name of the file, then press enter.
Now you can see (and select) the .bat file.
This works also with FastStone ImageViewer, which wants like DXO only .exe files
-
update:
the .bat workaround described in other threads works much better, and both with sw that wants the user to write just the path to ap's exe (like RawTherapee) and with sw that wants the user to navigate to the exe (like faststone and dxo photolab).

I found it necessary to use a helper .bat file:
start /b affinityphoto2.exe %1 exitI named mine LaunchAffinityPhoto2.bat and saved it. Then I point to that bat file from the other programs that need to invoke Photo 2.
By far the best way to export to Affinity Photo 2, and It works with all the programs I use (RawTherapee, FastStone Image Viewer).
Thank you very much.

Same problem with RawTherapee. I know where the "new" exe is, I can create working shortcuts, but there's no way to export from RawTherapee to Affinity Photo v.2.
I correct myself.
Setting the path to Photo.exe in RawTherapee to export to Affinity Photo v.2 works:
C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\SerifEuropeLtd.AffinityPhoto2_2.0.0.1640_x64__3cqzy0nppv2rt\App\Photo.exe
Maybe I copied it wrong, before.
-
Update, now it works.
Where RawTherapee asks for the path of the external editor's executable I wrote:
C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\SerifEuropeLtd.AffinityPhoto2_2.0.0.1640_x64__3cqzy0nppv2rt\App\Photo.exe
...which is what I thought I already did yesterday. I think I didn't copy correctly the entire path.
Hope this helps.

First of all: sorry for my bad english, I'll try explain to my best.
I just bought Affinity Photo V2. Everything's fine, exept the fact I don't understand if (and how) there's a way to set a path to the executable that's working:
In RawTherapee's preferences, I can set the path to the exe of an external editor, to which RT "sends" a tiff with my pp settings applied to continue to work.
Until today, that path was "C:\Program Files\Affinity\Photo\Photo.exe".
I already discovered how to see what's in the WindowsApps folder, and I found the AP V2 exe. Problem is that I can't use that exe to launch AP v2 (got an error message)
Now I'm really struggling to find out a workaround for this problem...and if I won't find out one, I will have to ask for a refund and continue to use AP V.1.
Thanks to everyone who will try to help.

I think it was "your" bat exactly the one I referred to.
They both solved the "call Affinity Photo trough other sw" problem, I just liked the idea of the black window remaining in the windows bottom bar.
Thanks both, by the way.
