  1. Thanks
athom got a reaction from Chris B in Multi GPU Problems, crashing software, needed advices.
Today I unplugged the 3060 egpu from the tb3 port and tried using Photo with the internal 2060 and OpenCL enabled. This seems to working ok without crashing after doing several operations that previously I would have expected to result in a crash.
However, there is still a couple of seconds freeze finalizing a patch operation when the menu bar turns white and "(not responding)" shows. And, as observed previously, that doesn't happen with OpenCl disabled.

This is a laptop with internal 2060 (6GB). The 3060 (12GB) is in an external enclosure connected via thunderbolt 3.

    Thanks Chris,
here are the different configurations of the Performance settings, also a bit more detail on crash circumstances:

    1. DIsabled Open CL = Stable operation
    ---

    2. Enabled Open CL on RTX3060 = Unstable operation
Crash first time opening the image
    Second open was ok.
Using Patch was ok, but clicking on adjustments/levels with one of two layers (created by frequency separation) selected, results in crash.
Crash means Photo simply disappeared, and is gone from Task Manager.
    ---

    3. Enabled Open CL on RTX2060 = Unstable operation
Crash first time opening the image.
    Second open was ok.
Using patch ok on one layer, but switching to the other layer caused a crash.
Opened image a third time, using patch was ok, creating one adjustment layer ok, but while working on a second adjustment layer results in a crash.
Also noticeable is if Open CL is enabled with either GPU it introduces a couple of seconds freeze when you finish a patch operation, and the Photo window menu bar flashes white before the patch is finalised. This is on the occasions that it didn't crash.
Disabling Open CL when using patch gives no freeze or menu bar flash, and no crash.
Overall, OpenCL enabled = unstable operation with frequent crashes.
    Also:
Using Designer 2.0.4 (haven't installed 2.1 yet) with the RTX3060 and Open CL enabled appears to be stable in short time I tested it with  a 20 layer drawing - moving layers around, doing layer adjustments, bezier lines, stretching, text, bitmap copy and paste. No freezes or crashes.

Thank you for the MSI installers.
Installing Photo, Designer and Publisher 2.0.4 on Win10 as my first time v2 upgrade appears to have gone smoothly and successfully!

athom reacted to Ash in Claim your free content bundle & our new upgrade offer
    Hi all,
Yesterday marked the end of our ‘40% off V2’ launch offer. With that offer ending I wanted to let you know about a couple of things:
Ongoing upgrade price for the Universal Licence
As I mentioned in my previous announcement (here), offering a specific upgrade price for V1 customers had many complications and is why we decided to run a launch offer in the way we did. However, we listened to the feedback we had around that, and have used this time to implement a method to offer an upgrade price long-term — allowing customers who have not upgraded yet an opportunity to still do so at a better price than a new customer.
All the issues I previously referenced around App Store conflict still exist, so the upgrade offer:
Is only available for purchases of the Universal Licence (offering upgrade pricing on individual apps just is not possible without conflicting with App Store guidelines as each individual app has their own App Store listing) Is only available for purchases made directly from our website (we cannot offer this upgrade discount for people purchasing via an App Store) The ongoing upgrade offer is 25% off the Universal Licence, and also includes a free content bundle (the Creative Collection) worth over £200. To claim this discount, we will validate you own V1 based on whether you previously purchased V1 from us directly, or have registered a V1 App Store purchase to your account. This offer is available from our new upgrade page.
Creative Collection content bundle now available to anyone who has already upgraded from V1 to V2 during the launch offer period
If you already upgraded to V2 during the launch offer period, we also wanted to make sure you could retrospectively claim this new free content bundle.
We have worked hard to make this a valuable gift, and have tried to cover various different use cases of our apps. The bundle includes some high-quality fonts, brushes, LUTs, icon assets and resources and, as mentioned above, is worth over £200. So, if you have already purchased V2 and you previously owned V1, you can claim this content for free as a special thank you for your support (in addition to the 40% discount you would have already received on your V2 purchase during the launch offer).
To claim the Creative Collection, please visit our upgrade page and scroll down towards the bottom where there is a ‘CLAIM NOW’ link under ‘Already upgraded from V1 to V2? You can get the Creative Collection for free below’.
After following the link, you’ll be taken through the validation step of checking your account as being someone who owned V1 and has purchased V2. The way we confirm this is by seeing a V1 purchase tied to your account, whether you purchased it directly from us or you registered an App Store purchase to your Affinity account.
    Claim your free content now
We understand there will be some of you who did purchase V1 from an App Store but may not have ever registered it to your account (and as you probably don’t have V1 installed anymore, no longer have the ability to register it). In that case we will need to try to validate that manually with you. So, please first try getting the Creative Collection using the link above and if that fails, drop us an email with your Affinity ID to affinity@serif.com (subject: “Free Content”) and we will do our best to help. If it’s possible for you to dig out your original App Store receipt for your V1 purchase, it will speed up the process if you include that in your email to us.
Other than that, thanks again for all your continued support. We hope you enjoy your gift!
    Thanks,
    Ash

Hi all. Thanks for your patience over the weekend when our offices were closed.
We've had a meeting this morning and decided to ALSO offer MSI installers to those people who would like them. I can't tell you when this will happen, as there is engineering work that will be required to allow this to happen, but we hope it won't be long.
    Thanks for your feedback!

I'm also disappointed and concerned at this unexpected move of Affinity away from a standard .exe pc install.

I've never installed an 'app' on my system and have switched everything off related to them and the ms store that I can in system settings and firewall permissions etc.

What are the benefits to a pc owner of installing an app as opposed to a standard .exe? It isn't clear to me.

Of the wide range of professional audio visual programs I use there is only one that I'm aware of being available as an app (for mac in this case), and that is BlackmagicDesign Resolve. Wisely in my opinion, BlackmagicDesign also makes a standard install version available, the app is just an alternative option. The purchaser is given the final say over which install they choose.

This thread has made me decide to delay a v2 purchase and see what Serif does to make a standard .exe install available, or not.

I only started using the Affinity suite a couple of months ago (ex years of CC) and I thought upgrading would be an obvious 'yes!', but I'm sorry to say this is an unfortunate no-go for now.

I'm glad to at least have the option to continue with the v1 suite and am not faced with v2 or nothing.

    Hi @athom,
I'm assuming this is in Designer?
Do you have Photo? Do a round trip and use the crop tool.
Crop in Photo can remove and add canvas.
i.e. File > Edit in Photo, use the crop tool, File > Edit in Designer.
(I don't have Pub, maybe it's different in there)
Also, this will not work if you're working on an Artboard. The crop tool in Photo is grayed out in that instance.

You could use pseudo guides using curves, i.e. drawing lines to simulate guides and then grouping all of the lines, in this way you get to do what you want and drawing the pseudo guides will be easy if you enable snapping to the existing guides while using the pen tool. After you have drawn out the pseudo guides you simply hide the real guides or just delete them.

    Welcome to the forums @athom
You can only move Guides individually, either by dragging them using the mouse or by using the Guides Manager, they cannot be moved together.
