  1. It's definitely a new FCP problem. As suggested, I unticked the Embed ICC profile option and made a PNG file from the original problematic Affinity document. That imported and worked. Curious I tried importing again the exported versions that didn't work last week, including the psd files, and lo, they now worked as well! Last week, I did everything including rebooting the computer with no luck until I removed the background layer as described above. Unless Apple did an update over the weekend that I'm not aware of, I don't have an answer.
  2. A strange FCP and Affinity Photo anomaly. Today I had to fix a title text error on a scene in a finished 4K promo piece sent to me. The original editing house refused to fix the error for various reasons but at least they made a text free version of the complicated promo so I could fix the problem. So here's what happened: First I exported a still of the incorrect scene from FCP and imported that into Affinity Photo. I didn't want to recreate the title card in FCP due to the moderately complex text layout in the scene. After setting the corrected type in Affinity Photo, I added a black layer to cover over the still and exported as a layered psd file. The psd file imported into FCP as all black layers! So I went back to Affinity and exported a flattened jpeg and a png. I checked them in Preview and they looked fine, text against black. Both imported into FCP as only black! This makes no sense to me, in fact the psd file also looked good in Preview. The file is RGB/8bit. As a last ditch effort I did a "Save As" in Affinity Photo and removed the still from the original promo. Did an export as a layered psd file and it worked in FCP! Has anyone had a similar experience or know what might cause an otherwise visible jpeg or png file come up as black in FCP? Everything is updated in my M1Max MacBook Pro.
