As already advised you will need to start with the Displacement Filter but after that you can "distress" it further to get whatever result you want.

I think that was due to a bug with Auto Correct which was fixed in beta 330 but beta 330 was withdrawn shortly after its release due to another bug
For now you can switch off auto correct (until they release the next beta) if it becomes too much of a problem for you

In the layers panel right-click the layer and select Rasterise.
Or from the menus Layer > Rasterise

carl123 reacted to IDT Adrian in Choose temporary files directory - option
After some time of digging throught the topic I managed to find a way around it which seems to be less invasive.
You can create a symbolic link to a folder on different drive and it seems to work fine with the program (after only a 30 minutes of testing, if it won't work for anyone reading this just reverse the process).
    How to do this:
First of all turn off your Affinity Photo.
    Now:
You need to find command prompt - press start button and type "cmd" Open it as an administrator (black window with some text will show up) Prepare your folder:
Open your file explorer as a directory type %appdata% Find Roaming\Affinity\Photo\ - there should be folders named by the version you are using. In my case "1.0" Leave that window be and open new one to create the folder in which you want to have your temporary files:
open your file explorer and create a folder wherever you with your files to be stored (in my case "E:\Affinity Photo Cache") now enter the folder with affinity version in your %appdata%\Roaming\Affinity\Photo\ - in my case "1.0" copy everything from that folder into the new folder you created elsewhere - in my case I copied %appdata%\Roaming\Affinity\Photo\1.0 to "E:\Affinity Photo Cache" To be safe, make another copy of your %appdata%\Roaming\Affinity\Photo\1.0 and store it somewhere else. Delete the version folder from your %appdata%\Roaming\Affinity\Photo\ - in my case "1.0" folder. (remember the original name of the folder, we'll use it in a second) Now it's time to use command prompt:
Before we go to the command, select full directory to the %appdata% folder you are in and copy it -it should look like C:\Users\[my_user_name]\AppData\Roaming\Affinity\Photo In your command prompt: Type: mklink /D "[paste the folder directory here and add \(the original name of the folder) at the end]" "[the new folder you created and copied the files into]" - in my case it looked like this mklink /D "C:\Users\[my_user_name]\AppData\Roaming\Affinity\Photo\1.0" "E:\Affinity Photo Cache" Remember about those "" signs on the start and end of every directory. You should see in your command prompt this: symbolic link created C:\Users\[my_user_name]\AppData\Roaming\Affinity\Photo\1.0 <<===>> E:\Affinity Photo Cache Done - you are good to go
To read more about symbolic links visit those sites:

I hope this helps, but in the same time I still wish I had a simple "insert directory" option inside Serif programs

carl123 got a reaction from Tomáš Luža in How to easily create a black border?
The attached macro should give any image a 5px (black) external border.
Note: It will add a Fill Layer which you also need to change to black as the macro cant do that as yet
Note2: If you know how to pause a macro you can adjust the size of the border when you run it
Note3: You can assign a shortcut key to a macro to make it easy to run instantly
Note4: If you routinely add different size borders to images just make more macros
Note5: Unlike the Model T Ford you can have any border colour you want when you create the macro, it does not have to be black
Note6: Take dog for a walk

The app can be tricked into behaving sensibly like Photoshop in that situation: put a white Fill layer with Multiply mode as the bottom layer inside the group.

A large part of the problem, as discussed elsewhere, is that newly implemented features are taken off the published roadmap (assuming they were ever on there in the first place). If you were to leave them on the list but mark them as implemented, it would be clear to everyone just how much has been added to the apps over the past few years.

carl123 reacted to creatinglightly in Save failed because the file could not be written to.
Hi all! I ended up here because I had the same problem.
Mine happened in MacOS High Sierra and couldn't fix it with any of these tips. I was working with my local SSD almost full without knowing, and suddenly it was full enough that it couldn't save my progress. I freed some GBs but the app instance was now broken. Luckily, I could come up with an almost certain way to fix it. The bad thing is that this method requires Affinity Photo, which if you don't have, you're in trouble (the semi-good news is that you could be saved by downloading the free trial if you don't want to pay for it, or at least you could find a way to hack your OS to duplicate an instance of an app, I guess, and do it with a second Affinity Designer open).

I won't go in detail because you can read that in this thread:
But long story short: I could duplicate and open my latest working file with Photo, copy the missing layers/objects (the new unsaved work), and save the file as another one in Photo. After that, I could safely close Designer in order for it to get fixed itself, open the new complete file and continue working over there.
Hope it helps/saves somebody! Have a nice week!
    Cheers!

@dominik Don't ever get a job in sales
APub will have all the functionality needed to work as a standalone product and to produce the range of documents it is intended to be able to produce at this stage in its development.
Due to the tight integration with all other Affinity products, APub will have easy access to additional features found in those products if you have also purchased Affinity Photo and/or Affinity Designer

We need and easy option implemented for doing that
