  1. I think he's talking about pixel selections not layer selections Pixel selection/Mask shortcuts (Windows) Select All Ctrl+A Deselect Ctrl+D Invert Pixel Selection Ctrl+Shift+I Add to selection (Marquee/Freehand selection tools only) Ctrl+Alt-drag Remove from selection Alt-drag Grow/Shrink Ctrl+B Feather Shift+F6 Refine Edges Ctrl+Alt+R Nudge selection1 Arrow key Modified nudge selection1 Shift+arrow key Selection from layer Ctrl-click layer thumbnail or Ctrl+Shift+O Selection from layer luminosity Ctrl+Alt-click layer thumbnail Add layer contents to existing selection Shift+Ctrl-click layer thumbnail Add layer luminosity to existing selection Shift+Ctrl+Alt-click layer thumbnail Polygon selection (Freehand Selection Tool only) Ctrl+Shift-click on page. Quick Mask Q
  2. If you ignore the Quick FX Panel (for now) and access the FX dialog by using the FX icon in the Layers panel you will find that the FX dialog stays open until you close it. Even when switching layers or documents
  3. In your image it looks like you don't have that layer selected in the Layers panel It looks like you may have a different layer selected (one below that shown image) A full-sized screenshot, showing the Layers panel and the crop tool selected or a video recording may help see what you are doing
  4. Many of the components are just the same component resized/rotated/flipped etc so duplicating/reusing those components will reduce the time considerably
  5. Affinity products do not have content aware fill (as yet) but that's a relatively new thing Depending on your image there may be other ways to achieve what you want but we would need to see the image to determine what's best
  6. Alt+Shift+O opens the Recent panel in APhoto In Designer and Publisher, you can assign your own shortcut (Windows 11)
  7. All I know is that's the price listed (at the link above/below) for V1 users to upgrade to the V2 Universal Licence https://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/store/upgrade-offer/ What confuses me is if V1 users only need one V1 product to qualify for the V2 Universal Licence offer or if they need all 3 of the V1 products (APhoto, Designer, Publisher)
  8. All across the known universe further than any Star Trek vessel has ever travelled there are people in all alien races that write Help files and are asking themselves... "Why do I even bother doing this job?" Edit All Layers and Select Same/Select Object The behaviour of the Select Same and Select Object commands depends on the Edit All Layers setting on the Layers panel: When the setting is enabled, the Select Same/Select Object commands will match objects across all artboards. When the setting is disabled, the Select Same/Select Object commands will match only objects on the current artboard.
  9. In the Hamburger menu for the Layers Panel make sure "Show Group Thumbnails" is ticked
  10. Serif has just started its Black Friday sale so you can upgrade now from V1 to V2 for £71.99 which covers all apps on all platforms and is traditionally the largest discount you get throughout the year. It's possible that macro keyboard shortcuts will come in the free V2 updates and also scripting (which we know they are working on) but there is no guarantee on any of that. It's a bit of a gamble but V2 also has lots of additional features, bug fixes etc that it may be worth upgrading now to get the discount rather than missing out and then find they add the shortcuts in the next free update for V2 users and you have to pay the full price at that point in time. https://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/store/upgrade-offer/
  11. In Windows you can switch to the Pixel Persona and CTRL+Click the shape/curve's thumbnail in the Layers panel to make a pixel selection of that shape Does that not work on Macs?
  12. Hard to tell from your initial screenshot what you want to apply this to but maybe a Textured Line Style for the stroke could be made to work.
  13. If all else fails you can use your mobile phone to record your screen and upload that footage. Sometimes that actually works better because you can also narrate what you doing and seeing, if it's not obvious in a screen recording
  14. It's basically the same What part are you having trouble with or what happens when you try it?
  15. In business, the only opinions that really matter are those of your target audience. For a successful party you have to play the sort of music your guests like, or they won't come back And if you don't like the music they are playing, you need to tell them Like the Pixel Grid Blues saga.... ...they implemented it, we didn't like it, we said so, they changed it back. So, now we are all back chilling out with the Classical grid we all knew and loved.
  16. The simple answer is to invest in a dedicated backup app If you are a hobbyist then you probably want to look for a free version If you are a professional invest in a paid version Ideally your backup app should be able to save different versions/revisions of your documents. Because if the app just backs up the last version, then if that document was corrupted at the point of saving it then the copy on your backup will also be corrupt. To prevent fire/theft etc from ruining your life (and backups) your backup should be done to an offsite location (i.e. cloud backup/storage) For easy access you can also do an additional backup to one of your local drives. Retrieving a backup from that is normally easier/quicker and can be done if your internet goes down for any reason. Personally, I have 4 different backups for all my files that run every day/night to different locations. Two on-site and two off-site (the cloud). One of those backups is defined as a "continuous backup" which means that every new file I create or when I edit an old file, that change is immediately detected and the file is immediately backed up (to the cloud). My setup is probably overkill but my clients are not the forgiving types Bottom line, invest some time in implementing a proper backup routine
  17. I'm also unsure of what you want exactly But if you just want the image printed but none of the other stuff in the document... Right-click the image layer in the Layers Panel and select Hide Others Print the document Right-click the image layer in the Layers Panel and select Show Others
  18. When I save an untitled document. I immediately know I am saving it for the first time and "have" to give it a name Currently, when I "save" a document that already has a name and are presented with that name in the save dialog screen I immediate think I must have accidentally hit the Save As... menu option rather than just Save (because they are next to each other in the menu) so I just continue to save it. If I am going to be presented with the same dialogs, and the same options, and the same choices, therein lies the risk that I could accidently overwrite an old document by mistake by assuming I hit Save As... and not just Save, when in fact I had named the document with the same name as another document when I created it I know.
  19. Software design should minimise the risks involved in its usage When you save an untitled document, you are presented with the screen to name that document Adding an option to pre-name your document just adds another layer of risk in overwriting an existing document and adds no benefit to workflow as cited by the OP. The workflow is the same time wise, it's just the risks that are different It's like the decision to have Hardware Acceleration on as the default. How many users have had their documents crash and lost work because of this being enabled. Only to have to be told to disable it by other users (and even support staff) to stop losing their work. Like it was somehow their mistake to trust the software to make the right decision for them, when we all know hardware acceleration can make you lose a lot of work if it is incompatible with your computer configuration. Serif even disabled this setting for all AMD graphic cards in the early days as they knew there was a particular problem with them but then reenabled it (as the default!) even knowing it would still cause crashes on some devices. Software changes that introduce another level of risk need to be evaluated carefully and not just willy-nilly to appease someone that previously used Photoshop or some other software. 1. Customer Service: How can I help you 2. User: I just opened an old document from last month and it now looks like a document I created yesterday. 3. Customer Service: Did the two documents have the same document name? 4. User: Yes, they did 5. Customer Service: Looks like you used our new supa dupa ability to name your document when you created it, not when you first saved it, like you were previously used to doing. You must have misunderstood the warning telling you were going to overwrite a previous document not the one you specifically named at the time you created it 6. User: WTF. How do I recover from this mess. I need that old document back now! 7. Customer Service: The only way is to restore it from a backup. If you don't have a backup then I'm afraid you are totally and utterly screwed. 8. User: I am going to lose my job over this! 9. Customer Service: Not my problem pal, we introduced that option to save you 0.002 seconds in your workflow. It's not our fault if you just blindly accept the inherent risks involved when you use our software....... Is there anything else I can help you with today? 10. User: Yes, sometimes when working on documents they crash and I lose all my work 11. Customer Service: Sir, just switch off the Hardware Acceleration option we enable by default - for Christ's sake don't you users know anything
  20. I'm talking about inexperienced users in my previous post Save As is different, it implies you are saving to a different file name that the document currently has, so the warning would/could be expected
