  1. I think it only occurs if you open an image not on creating a new document
  2. I thought that when you first open an image a snapshot is automatically taken of the image The image's original dimensions will be in that snapshot, would it not?
  3. Select All Layers in Layers Panel Edit > Copy File > New From Clipboard Window > Float All Add your Soft Proof adjustment to one of the windows
  4. Both, Blend Options and Erase White Paper leaves the Fill of the image transparent If the OP just wants the background transparent, use the Flood Select Tool with Contiguous checked PS A detect edges filter layer can also help define the selection of the Flood Select Tool
  5. That is how it should work (except it should happen behind the scenes and return image to image when a copy has been copied). Not yet though. If you do that on a placed image, at say 300dpi, then the copy will be at a lower DPI (e.g. 72DPI). If you want a selection from an image layer, just make your selection on that layer as normal, add a fill layer, move the fill layer so it crops/masks your placed image and your image layer remains an image layer and is still at the higher resolution
  6. Find an image of the sort of stone you want to use, place it below the image of the house Add a mask to the House image Selectively paint on the mask layer with black to reveal where you want the stone to show house.afphoto
  7. You are using the Erase Brush Tool to paint on the mask layer You should be using the Paint Brush Tool and set it to the colour black
  8. OK Basically the way I did it was just to concentrate on the pictures rather than worrying about the text or the background, so I needed to first separate them into a new document Part 1: (PIC1) Start by adding an eclipse to the first picture, change opacity of the eclipse to 50% and adjust it to just cover the first picture. Then duplicate the eclipse and move the duplicate to cover the 2nd picture, and repeat to add an eclipse on all the other pictures. (switching snapping OFF helps, as it just gets in the way when switched on) Part 2: (PIC2) Select All Eclipses in the Layers panel Use Layer > Geometry > Add to create one Curve layer with all the pictures in it Now CTRL + Click the Curve Layer's Thumbnail in the Layers panel to create a selection of all the eclipses Select the background layer in the Layers panel Edit > Copy then File > New from Clipboard This will create a new document with just the pictures in it Part 3: (PIC3) In the new document you just created Add a Fill Layer (Layer > New Fill Layer) Move the Fill layer to the bottom in the Layers Panel (make it a very light grey colour) On the background layer (the pictures) I added some adjustments/filters to try to further enhance the pictures You can see these in the attached afphoto file Now you can add the names to the pictures I used Arial 6.9pt Bold Italic which seemed to match the original That's about it, post back if you get stuck or need help further on in the process pictures.afphoto
  9. Agreed, keyboard shortcuts seriously interrupt your workflow when you have a mouse in one hand and a beer in the other. More customisable toolbar icons would be very welcomed
  10. Sorry dmgatwork, I did not see your edited text, if you edit a post I do not get updated, if you had posted a new post I would have seen it I will list the steps later today for you
  11. It's hard to say what the actual colours were like without being there so I just had a go at brightening it up a bit. Oh, and unlike Affinity's way of doing things the "before" picture is on the left and the "after" picture is on the right
  12. You can also remove the meta data within AP via the View > Studio > Exif tab This also works within a macro so you could just batch process (within AP) all your required project images to remove all meta data so you don't have to remember to do so individually when exporting your images later on. This also means you do not have to set up individual presets should you wish to export in different formats such as JPGs, PNGs, PSDs, etc
  13. To measure the distance between the corners of a square which has been rotated by 45 degrees you can just click the Reset Selection Box button which will (temporally) update the Transform Tab's Width and height values for the square
  14. Bear in mind there is a bug when exporting images whereby you have to untick "Embed metadata" in the More section of the export screen or the DPI does not change in the exported image. The OP may be encountering this bug
  15. Rather than using the slider, you can use the up and down arrow keys in the value boxes, the results are instant Use Shift + Arrow Keys to increase/decrease the increment by 10 Use CTRL + Arrow Keys to increase/decrease the increment by 0.1
  16. Another way? Add a white rectangle over the entire image change the rectangle's blend mode to Contrast Negate
  17. What you need is a way to pause the macro but that does not exist What you can do is record the following in a macro Duplicate the layer Add Mask Invert Mask Switch off visibility of Mask Select the Duplicated layer Add Live Dust & Scratches filter Modify the Filter's settings Within the macro make the filter parameters adaptable then when you run the macro you can see and adjust the filter's effect, once adjusted just switch on the hidden Mask layer and paint in White on that layer to brush the effect back on. (if you get stuck with this post back) PS Not sure why your Affinity is crashing, what version are you running?
  18. It depends on what you mean by "make a better picture". If you want to maintain the look and feel of the original there are many image restoration techniques you can find on Youtube etc to do that. But if you just need a clearer image as an information source (e.g. for a school reunion flyer/poster) there are other ways to do that.
  19. Make sure your layer is selected in the Layers Panel Then record in a macro Select > Selection from Layer Open the "Cog" menu in the macro panel and select Use Luminosity When replayed the macro will now make a selection based on luminosity. (I think there may be a one step operation to select the luminosity in a macro but I cant think of it for now but the above will work)
  20. Layer Visibility on/off should work fine as long as you select the layer in the layers panel first Not sure what exactly you mean by Select from Layer
  21. You can record a simple Macro (one command) to warp one object then replay the macro on the other objects you want to warp. Identical objects will warp identically Similar objects will warp proportionally All objects will be rasterised but remain as individual objects
