Thanks. Since I don't know how to set up a new document scratch with all the right setting required by printing house, I tried something else. I made a copy of the book which file (or document) to use as a template for the last three chapters (chapter 34-36). I pasted the rest of the text in and edited away the pages in the beginning and the end. Then I went back to the document containing the novel (chapter 1-33) and used the "Add pages from file" command. This worked and I could generate a PDF for the proof reader. The printing house expects a PDF, so I supposed that this work around will work well enough to complete this project. But thank you very much for the advises.

Hi, I working on a novel in Affinity Publisher and the file was created by someone else who has left the project and I can’t figure out who to add more pages with the same document properties and look as the previous page. Both the Add page or Add Page commands creates pages which are different to the precious pages. Between the pages there is a diagonal line which seems to tie them together some way, but this line is not created when I am to create additional pages. Any ideas? (I am attaching screen dumps of existing pages, the result of when using the "Add page" command and "Add pages" command) Thanks in advance. BTW: It’s a project to publish printed issue of a never before published novel written by my favourite author. This is the second novel I am publishing and like the previous project it’s a non-profit project to save a novel which may otherwise be lost and unpublished, which is why i don’t have budget to pay a professional to do the layout work.

I have sent a novel produced in Affinity Publisher to print in PDF format. The printing house is claiming that this version is CMYK which they can't use and they are asking me for a new file in black and white non-CMYK. I inherited this project, so I didn't create the file from scratch myself, but I changed all settings I could find from CMYK to some sort of grayscale alternative. See screen dumps below of the settings I have made to get a black and white/greyscale PDF file which the printing house can use. Any ideas on what I have missed and what I can do to get a non-CMYK, black and white PDF?

Yes, you are right. But a the time I thought that these characters were fine. The I read somewhere that they could be "double prime characters" and then I asked here how to automatically replace them with "proper" quotation marks. But after reading Walt's post above I now know that the original characters were "double prime characters" and hen I might as well keep them. But thank you for your input on the subject. It was interesting.

Thanks. I will go back later to see if I can repeat the process to show you an example. The author wrote the book on a typewriter in the 70's and I have scanned and OCR:ed the script, hence the characters I referred to as "double prime characters". But if there is no feature in Affinity Publisher which can autocorrect the right quotation mark in the beginning of the quotes to left quotation mark (see example in my previous post above), then perhaps it will be better to revert to the typewriter style "double prime characters". Only editing professionals and English teachers will probably notice. I'd prefer to get it 100% right, but I am already behind schedule because the printer sent it back to me to adjust the size slightly and while editing the size, I realized that I probably have used incorrect type quotation marks. The novel needs to be out in time for the Christmas shopping periods and the printing time is currently 5 weeks. So going through the entire novel to manually edit the entire dialog manually won't be an alternative I'm afraid. It's a non profit project, so I would need the Christmas sales to cover som of the production costs. I am inserting a example below of what I refer to as "double prime characters".

Yes it is strange. I copied a double prime character to the "Find" box and then a quotation mark in the "Replace with" box, but for some reason pressing the quotation mark key on the keyboard resulted in double prime character. Any way, I managed to solve the problem by typing a quotation mark elsewhere and copy it into the "Replace with" box as suggested. Thanks. Then, later I discovered that all quotation mark was the right side version. So no i need to figure out how to automatically correct that throughout the book.

As mentioned in another thread I working on the last edits on a novel which is about to go to print. In the entire novel double prime characters have been used instead of quotation marks. I would like to "find and replace" them all because editing manually one by one will take a very long time. The problem is that I can't find a way to type double prime character in the find box. I also noticed that if I type a quotation marks in the Find box and press find, AP will "find" all double prime characters. Typing quotation marks in both the find and replace boxes will result in nothing but the same as pressing "Find". I am sure it's easy, but I am stuck. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Thank you Walt, Problem solved! Please excuse my low knowledge level. This is a project to save a lost novel written by my favourite author and like many projects run by enthusiast, people drop off after a while and our layout expert isn't available anymore, which leaves me to finish the project with very little assistance. Thank you very much again!

Hi, I have inherited a novel project which I am finishing off before it goes to print. The problem is that the footer field which contains the page numbering is not centered, so the page numbers are a bit too far to the right. It seems like the positioning of the field is locked and I can't figure out how to unlock and move the footer. Any ideas? (I'm attaching a screen dump showing the problem.)
