This short thread about a limitation in object (not: node) selection, respectively the given reason may shed some light on the chances to find a hidden trick for number of node detection:
Thank you thomaso!
That's an interesting thread, it's always good to know about such limitations. I'll be working soon with large number of objects (not nodes/layers), so may indeed come upon similar issue.
In the meanwhile, carl123 has found an easy workaround for the problem I had. It works well also when the number of layers (being a result of the curve break-down based on the nodes) is significant.

Use the Node Tool to make a Marquee selection of the Curve (i.e. all the nodes)
Click the Break Curve button in Context toolbar
Switch to Move Tool and make Marquee selection of the "curve"This will give you the total number of objects selected at bottom-left of screen
This should also be the node count for closed curves (?)
For open curves you should add one to this count (?)So miracle happened
Thanks a million Carl for a great idea!
🍀 🌻 This solutionworks perfectly, I just need to add one to the count (as you noted well).
Such a relief... you've saved me from spending looong minutes on totally unnecessary & pretty problematic task 🤩

Thanks Psenda for your reply. Just as you say, and as I've found out from another topic I've opened today - the node is not an object. So there does not exist any basic functionality in Affinity to make a count of nodes..

Indeed, indeed... thanks again GarryP
I was not able to find any trick on my own, nor via searching the forums and many many websites.
But still have hope to find it... as life is too precious to waste time for counting the nodes one by one

Many thanks for your prompt reply GarryP. I've seen one of the links you quote and also read this one: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/73229-object-count-affinity-designer/#comment-965596 Wow, I believed that after 6-7 years something has changed in this area

I'll leave the topic open, maybe there exist some workaround to get what I need? I just don't believe that I am the only one now needing such a feature. Now I am forced to count everything manually which is simply ridiculous... Adobe Illustrator allows an easy access to such a data, but I don't want to change my working tool at the moment.

Hi guys,
I need to find out how many nodes does the curve(s) I drew contain - in other words, to count the number of objects on the selected curve(s).
What I do is: select all (as at the beginning for making things simple - I have one layer only, one curve only and many nodes on this curve) - by clicking Ctrl+A. It should select everything visible on the canvas. I'd expect to see the number of selected nodes on the bottom panel/ribbon. However the panel shows only the standard instructions meaning i.e. Click an object to select it. Click + Shift etc... . It looks like the nodes are not being selected by clicking Ctrl+A, as I see they are not in blue color but in white - what I read as not selected but a kind of pre-selected. So I marked some nodes manually by clicking on them and holding Shift, what changed their color to blue - but still, I do not see the count of nodes anywhere on the bottom panel. I appreciate your help...

Dear Hokusai, My bottom ribbon/panel does not show the number of selected objects, as I see on your print screen. It only shows some commands, i.e. Drag to move selection etc. What I'm looking for is to see what is the number of nodes in selected curve - and despite selecting the entire layer, the curve, all the nodes - I see no information saying how many nodes are there. Do you know maybe what should I do?

Objects count

Ok, step by step:
what you present on the screen is step no 1.
then Ctrl+A marks all the nodes
go to top ribbon Action: and select Break Curve --> you'll notice many layers being created
now switch to Move Tool [V] --> on the bottom panel/ribbon you'see the number of objects being created from your line = number of layers. You need to add one to this number to get the number of nodes
have a look if it helps? 🧐
