  1. Since the title of the original post is exactly my problem, I'll add my variation if that's okay? I'm using Windows 10 and as soon as I try to do anything in AP the whole screen goes black - not even a menu bar or mouse cursor. It happened when I installed the latest update - I can get back to the interface with Alt-TAB but if I try to go near the menu bar or click anything it will black the screen - I can Alt-TAB, hit the Create button, the screen goes black, Alt-TAB, I can see the new doc but clicking it will black the screen again.
  2. @walt.farrell @GripsholmLion Yes, I have to admit Flow can get very close, I used these settings to get an approximation:
  3. No Walt, I'm not looking for a Flow setting. And for more subtle effects I would just reduce the opacity a bit more. It's clearly not been thought out properly because going over a previous brush stroke will add density to the colour but going back over the current brush stroke doesn't. There is no logic to that and these two fours should look the same - as they would with any realistic paint medium. What's really happening is that although we might set the brush opacity to 30% each brush stroke is actually 100% opacity on a separate 'layer' that is 30% opacity. That is wrong.
  4. Why do I have to lift the paint brush and start again to see any build up of colour density? A 10% opacity paint brush should build up density as you keep brushing that same spot (like it does in PhotoShop) The tool is called a PAINT BRUSH how about it behaves like one rather than a 1980's Atari ST kids painting app?
  5. Unbelievable! Just got v2.1 it's 2023 and it still doesn't "simulate a realistic paint effect" - WTF is Affinity Paint supposed to do if it can't do that!?
  6. I can provide a file - its just text and lines and the exported file looks different in just about every situation. The file is unusable as a vector - only the PNG esport is close to what I see in AD. MacOS Monterey on M1 Mini Designer v2.04 Google font Figtree - which in my case seems to be the problem!! I had to export type as curves. Key Occupational Therapy.afdesign
  7. Well, I just deleted the entire folder at ~Library/Application Support/Affinity Photo 2 and that got it working again.
  8. Photo 2 won't open anything for me - everytime I try I get the dialog below - trying to connect to ...itself!!! Clicking OK just brings back this dialog until I Force Quit Photo.
  9. Thought I'd wake up this thread - it's been a year now and V2 has come - is there any way yet to add dimension lines?.
  10. Same in Photo 2.04 This is pretty basic user interface stuff - select the crop tool (the cursor turns into a bent double headed arrow that doesn't do anything) anyway, you click and type a value into the first box, TAB to the next box and wtf happens? So you click into the first box again and hit TAB - now it works properly, skipping into the next field, oh what joy! Using Affinity Photo is such a miserable experience. Do your developers have no shame?
  11. Another two years down the line - I bought Photo v2 and still there's no picker to set white and black. Affinity's ethos (with Photo Publisher and Designer) is clearly to de-monopolise Adobe and take a market share from Photoshop Illustrator and InDesign but when professionals have to Google just about every single new task, it's very frustrating. I get the impression Affinity designers have spent too much time in the world of Linux where manipulating software is the challenge and bending it to your will is the achievement. We ex-Photoshop users want developers who help us to create images and documents. The endless puzzle of how to do things with Affinity Photo doesn't interest us. There are still so many bugs in the UI - annoying little things like having to click twice to activate a dialog, or typing in a value only to have the first digit ignored. Most of the tool icons are meaningless, jpg compression is so poor, native file sizes are so big, why can't I simply open a jpg edit it and close with a save? Why can't I batch save images as WEBP? I cannot move from the Develop Persona to Edit without committing the changes - and yet I can hit Undo when back to Edit - it's just clunky geeky sloppy stuff that smells of Linux. We all hate Adobe and their monopolistic dictatorial empire, I think we all want to love Affinity but jeez it's really not working out for me. I could never recommend this to any of my clients.
  12. Shame you can't do that with WebP 😞 Really getting disillusioned with Affinity - for web development it's pretty annoying. I need Photoshop 'Export for Web' where I can see instantly what it will look like as I adjust the size and compression etc. AP's JPEG export is total rubbish as well - the image quality for the same size file is really poor compared to most other compressors. thank goodness for ImageOptim and TinyPNG.com
  13. I bought V1 65 days ago and already reported a bug that will now never be fixed. However Affinity have implied that there will be some further discount for us new users, posting on FaceBook: "Unfortunately, we are unable to offer additional V2 upgrade discounts for V1 purchases made more than 90 days ago." No sign of anything yet though ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  14. I first had the problem without any cropping. I only cropped it for you to hide some sensitive corporate data. Screenshot from a web browser File > New from Clipboard Crop the image Rasterise the Layer Result looks blurry. I don't know about your transform window - with the image open mine looks like this:
  15. Hi Dan, Okay I have cropped a small part of it and saved that - then quit APh and reloaded it to confirm it still has the problem. I have to say I've tried to recreate the problem with another screen grab and creating a >new >from clipboard image but that's not giving me the same issue. I've also found that with my problem job "Rasterise & Trim..." does what I wanted and the result is a pixel layer that is neither fuzzy nor trimmed. But if I >Undo that and try a plain: "Rasterise..." again it goes fuzzy as before. Clipboard Issue Part.afphoto
