  1. Thank you for your answer. Sorry, I did realise that I can change the DPI in a document but what I need to be able to do is copy, e.g. a 10cm circle from a multi-layered image and have it open at its original 300 DPI in a new document of 10cm. This is so that I can save separate elements from files. This is what I thought New from Clipboard would do but it doesn't, the circle is be in the top left hand corner of a much larger, otherwise blank file if I do that. That is why I asked if there was a workaround of any sort.
  2. I came to ask the same question as I assumed it would be a simple anser but found this through a search. It really impedes my workflow as I constantly use Copy From Clipboard to copy images from a 300dpi file to create a new file but they are massively oversized as they are at 96dpi. Is there any workaround at all for this please?
  3. Dan, it's interesting that it's expected behaviour. Unfortunately for me there is never a situation where I would want to place a .txt file as I don't use them at all. I don't know if that's unusual but it does mean that it's not helpful for me.
  4. That's interesting, I used to use Qimage until about 3 years ago. I never realised that it could damage the printer. I think I'll stick to printing on an A4 sheet and cutting it down.
  5. All the listed sizes above A4 would make cards that are too small. A4 fold in half to make A5 cards which I do use and sell but the more popular sizes are A6 (4.1" x 5.8") or 6" x 6".
  6. I tried it because it worked for other people, apparently, but it didn't work for me. so I have to print on A4 and cut down which is what I was trying to avoid for speed. Unfortunately, I can't afford to buy another printer at the moment.
  7. Thank you v_kyr, I did do an internet search and found this but I wasn't clear on it. A workaround that seems to have worked for some was to make an a4 template and place the 6 x 6 image vertically and centre it and then print borderless on an A4 setting but actually loading the 6 x 6 card. This doesn't work for mr sadly. I think I'll just have to accept that it can't be done.
  8. Sorry, this is not specifically an Affinity question but it's driving me nuts. I print and sell greetings cards and use Affinity Designer for this. Most of my cards are 6" x 6" and some of them I need to print them borderless. I put the card in the rear tray and set up for borderless but it always comes out with a border. The only way I can do it is to print on A4 and cut down but it would be more convenient to print on 6 x 6. Is there anything I'm missing or is it just that this printer can only do borderless on A4? Thanks for any help.
  9. Thank you so much for all your input on this, particularly h_d for the image tutorial. Although it's Designer rather than Publisher I'm using I managed to get it to work. So it looks as though I'm not the only one with the same issue and there is no answer as yet. I'll just set up some presets and hope for an update!
  10. Thank you, GarryP and jmwellborn. Frustrating to know that I am not alone as it seems like it would be quite a simple fix. I do try to remember to open a template first e.g 29.7cms x 14.8 cms to make a 14.8cm square card but it doesn't always suit the situation.
  11. As I don't design and only ever open or place images I don't ever need to know sizes in pixels. I have to change it on the ruler for every file I open. Is there a way to make cms the default please? I have looked through Preferences but can't see anything obvious.
  12. Thank you both for the quick replies. My mistake, I did mean File>Place. That will teach me to post a question when I should be asleep! I'm not a designer so don't create anything myself. I use designs created by other people to make and print cards and for sublimation. I nearly always have a text layer within layers when I'm placing images so this is a right pain as it happens so often. I'll need to remember to deselect the text layer or use drag and drop from File Manager instead. Not too big a problem, I just need to remember. Thanks for the tips, it's been bugging me for a while.
  13. One of the things I found irritating in Affinity Designer was that, quite frequently, when I clicked File>Open I was only offered .txt files and not all the files I knew to be in a folder (a mixture of .afdesign, JPEGs and PSDs usually). Sometimes closing the box and trying again worked but sometimes I had to open File Explorer and drag and drop. I had hoped that this wouldn't be the case in Affinity Designer 2 but it's happened on the first file I've tried to open. Is this a glitch or am I doing something wrong please?
  14. @Callum thanks you so much, that did the trick. I did highlight something strange (not AD related). I had copied all of my fonts from the old Windows/Fonts folder to the new one but some of my fonts aren't installed on the new laptop. This is despite the numbers of files appearing to match when copied. I can individually install any that I spot are missing but am probably going to miss some. Do you have any ideas please?
  15. Hi, new here. I have been using Affinity Designer since January on a laptop. I have just bought a new laptop and installed AD on there and all went fine with the installation. But every time I highlight a word and type the start of a font name in the font box the program shuts down. If I highlight the word and scroll down the font list I can change fonts successfully. With a long list of fonts, this is a pain and it doesn't do this on my old laptop. Can anyone suggest a fix please?
