My suggestion worked when I tried it, and I think it should have worked for you, too.

But no, you cannot do it with simple Curve objects, as a Node can only be part of a single Curve. That's why I merged the two Curve objects into a Curves object.

Thank you for this reply.  I did not fully understand your original post. I was hoping to be able to do this joining operation quickly, but I see now the benefit in your solution.  It does not actually join the two curves, but as you explained a node can only be associated with a single curve, I did not know this.

I am finding AD very hard to work with, so many clicks and circuitous routes to get simple operations done.

    Thank you.

    @BPinWV,

I find that if I have the snapping for the Node tool set up like this

then I can use the node tool to select the two curves and select the node i want and it will snap to the second curve.

It looks like this is going to be the easiest solution to my problem.  I was hoping to actually join the node to the new pathway so that it would become a  continuous joined path.  But it looks like that is not possible.

    Thank you.

You can move the lower one so its end node is located on top of the other curve, and then use Layer > Geometry > Merge Curves, which will give you a Curves layer.

Based on your solution it looks like I cannot do what I had hoped, which is a simple single click operation.  It also tells me that I cannot join a node to a pathway where the old node becomes apart of the pathway.

    Thank you.

  4. This is a problem I've had since I started learning Affinity Designer. I should have posted my question sooner.

What I want to do is join the node at the end of a line to any point along another curved path.  I am specifically not wanting to join node to node, instead I want to join a node to a path.

In the attached image, I'm describing a typical operation.  Is there a way of doing this?

    Thank you,

  5. I have been a designer and used AutoDesk Autocad exclusively for many years.

I am fairly new to Affinity Designer, and am having trouble making the transition.  When I say fairly new, I might be exaggerating a bit, I have gone through a thorough online course and have practiced several YouTube tutorials.  And struggled with a few personal projects.  So I might be giving myself too much credit.

My biggest problem with Affinity Designer is the number of steps needed to accomplish something that Autodesk Acad does intuitively.  For example, with Acad there are Object Snaps such as  Quadrant, Perpendicular, Center, End Point, Mid Point, Tangent, Nearest, etc., these snaps assist in locating points to start a line or any number of other operations such as moving, copying, arraying, etc.  Another example is with ACAD there is a quick TRIM and EXTEND icon, which alloys for fast operations, versus in Affinity Designer one must open the Node Tool and then remember which combination of clicks and keystrokes necessary to alter the node or move an end point or break a line or other operations.

Using Affinity Designer, one task that I would like to master is simply outlining simple photographs.  Say drawing a perimeter line around shapes such as a house or gift boxes.  In AutoCad this would be a simple and fast operation.  I am finding it so time consuming in Affinity Designer that I have come to the realization that I must be doing something wrong.

I have attached a screen grab of a typical project, it has taken me over an hour to get where I stopped. I must be doing something wrong as it does not make sense such a project would take so long.

Any words of advice or clarifying questions would be greatly appreciated.

  6. Hello,

I am new to Affinity Publisher, so this problem may be me.  I am having trouble editing or moving Adjustment Layers when using Master Pages.  In the screen shot, note the 'Levels Adjustment' layer under Master A.  I created this Adjustment Layer to alter a photo that appears on page 1, when the Adjustment layer was created it first appeared above Master A.  I then dragged it into Master A, and then attempted to drag it under Picture Frame Image Layer.  The Levels Adjustment layer seems locked, I cannot move it, or open it, or even delete it by using the Trash Icon.

To summarize:  I cannot move, edit, or delete an Adjustment Layer when using Master Pages.

There may be a simple solution, I am at a loss.

    Thank you,

    BPinWV
