Nvidia graphics card GEForce GT 730 was installed yesterday and I tested the curves function in 1.10. No help. Function was just as erratic and froze just like the AMD Radeon 570 video card/drivers. The Nvidia card will be returned and I've reinstalled my Radeon 570 MSI card. I did examine CPU usage when using curves in 1.8.5 and it seems to be lower, I never did see CPU usage go above 75% when using curves in 1.8.5. It appears the Curves module was recoded in 1.9 and higher updates. I suggest comparing CPU and Memory usage of v.1.8.5 and current version on your system. I'm done with all my "consumer" testing. I'll stick to 1.8.5 until I get notice of a new release or update. Thank you for the help. Lee

Okay... one more update. Over the holiday weekend here in the US, I decided it was time to get my wife a new computer. She pretty much just uses the PC for online banking and a bit of browsing, most of the time she just uses the iPad. I bought her a refurbished HP Elite Desktop with AMD A8-7600 3.1GHz Processor, 8GB of RAM 256GB SSD, with on board AMD Radeon R7 graphics. I installed v. 1.10.5.1342 on this AMD Radeon system. Guess what? Affinity Photo runs just fine! The curves function is just as fast and responsive as I see in v.1.8.5 on my personal system. Damn, this is frustrating! So... what the heck! Is the curves issue related to processor or video driver? The Intel i5 I'm using is the 9400F and does not have onboard graphics. My graphics card: MSI Radeon RX 570 Armor Overclocked Dual-Fan 8GB GDDR5 PCIe 3.0 Graphics Card $160 USD in Dec 2019. That is what I paid for the refurbished PC for the wife! So... I'll stop by the local computer store (MicroCenter) tomorrow and see if I can find a low cost video card and throw at it!

One more update. I loaded Affinity Photo ver 1.10.5 onto my Dell Laptop. A Dell Latitude 7480 Intel i7-7600U with a 512GB SSD and 16GB of ram. Windows 10 Pro 64. Loaded the same Raw file and tried using the curves function in the Develop Persona. It actually responded better than on my desktop, it was however still a bit sluggish and I could get it to freeze up when moving the mouse while making changes along the curves graph scale. In version 1.8.5 I never see any sluggishness nor has it ever just froze and I've tried! It seems there has been some recoding of this function since 1.8. I'm really wanting to see this bug fixed, the only thing I don't like about using v 1.8 is I can't store presets in the studio! Lee

Just wanted to update. I wanted to test if there was a possibility I had a bad memory stick. I re-installed 1.10 powered down the PC and went from 32GB to 16GB of ram. Re booted and tested the curves function in the develop persona. Same issue. I swapped that 16GB of Ram with another set of 16GB Ram and again the same issue. So it doesn't seem to be a hardware issue. Un-installed 1.10 and went back to 1.8.5. I'll keep running 1.8.5 until a version newer than 1.10 is available. It seems I can do everything I need with 1.8.5. I've been building my own PC's since the 1980's. I built my current system in Dec 2019. I'm not a gamer, I built it for running photo software, it runs PS CS 5.1 without any issues. I've never used Lightroom. Are there some command line parameters that can be loaded when Affinity Photo starts to change memory allocation? I uninstalled the Radeon Video drivers and it is now running basic Windows video drivers (I have a dual display) and that didn't help either. I tried installing versions 1.10.1 and then 1.9.2, both of those versions had the same problem. I verified that I had OpenCL and related drivers installed and were operating properly. I re-installed current AMD Radeon drivers for my Graphics card. Back to v. 1.8.5.

Walt, thank you for replying. I did an uninstall and complete reinstall of the CURRENT version and had the exact same problem. I was able to perform a screen record of the issue. During this example, I was left clicking on the curve line and smoothly attempting to move the line up and down. Watch the result! It seems to be a memory management issue in Windows version. I'm running 32GB of ram and have a 1TB NVME drive that is only 25% full! See follow up post below. screen capture 001.mp4

Did Affinity ever solve this issue? I'm having the exact same problem! Is it possible to install an older version, I'm currently using 1.10.5.1342 Windows 64 bit. System is a desktop Intel i5 (6 Core) with 32GB RAM on a 1 TB SSD (MVME) on Windows 10 Pro 64 bit. Radeon RX 570 Series Display adapter Board: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
