in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)

I am a new user, just downloaded the app. i tried the basic healing tool and no matter how much i click it doesn't make any difference, the blemishes and spot still remain intact, i have sampled current and below layers still nothing. can someone tell me what i might be doing wrong please? thank you
