  1. I had registered and posted the image. But I understand that you cannot post photographs of living people there.
  2. Dear @NotMyFault, Thank you for your effort and time spent. I have got the idea now and will be working more on all the layers to make them clearer. I tried an AI but it made the face a bit frightful, SO I think I have to stick to the traditional methods. Regards,
  3. I have taken advise of many of the experts here trying to restore my old photos. I am in the process of restoring on of my old photos. I am unable to restore the neck part of my wife and also my neck. If I use paintbrush somehow I lose all the texture of the skin. Can some you advise me how to restore the skin part around the neck. I am posting the original and the one partially respaired by me.I know there is much more work to be done. But I need to first know how to restore the sking on my neck and also my wife's neck,.It should not look painted. Kindly give me your valuable advice.
  4. Dear Garry, Thanks for your advice. At present when I have a problem, I look up YouTube for videos relating to the problem I am facing and then try to solve it. I do know the basics of scratch removal, cleaning up spots etc, then brightening or darkening parts of the picture. I thought if there were a set of tutorials which specifically deal with restoration of damaged, low res photos, I could use them. But as you say this may be difficult. Just for example I am uploading one old photo which is not badly damaged, but low res and some parts are faded. I am not interested in the background, but only the person, his trousers and the chair and the music album he is holding. This is just one of the example. In case you can give me some advice, it would be highly appreciated.
  5. Dear Sirs, I have been using AF V2.0 to restore many old Black and white photo that I have. I would like to have a general guideline tutorial for what all I should do for this. Most of the old photos will be damaged and low resolution. SO naturally I must get a higher resolution scan. Then try to sharpen, denoise etc. So what I need is a general set of rules or guidelines to the restoration along with some good tutorials. Can anyone guide me. Thanks.
  6. @dominik I am amazed by your work. I could not have thought of it. Ofcourse I am a slow learned at 74. I have checked out your steps and will doing it myself and try to improve on it. You say you have taken only about half an hour. I may take at least 2 hours that too with a break. I am very thankful to you to have spent your time on it. VP
  7. I have faced this type of problem many times while trying to remove the background or make a subject selection in a black and white photo. The only way I figure is to guess. But if you experts can suggest a better way I will be grateful. I am attaching a photo for your reference. The white shirt on the white background is the probelm.
  8. Thank you V_kyr and iconoclast . I have learnt a lot.
  9. Dear Lee_T, Just a small doubt. In your steps I could not understand the last one . 'Applied to the original layer" How do use the selection on the original layer. The question may look silly. 😒
  10. Thank you @Lee_T, @R C_R, @v_kyr and @firstdefence for so many valuable comments and help. I will be trying ou all the suggestions and working on it. About which tree I can select best, I thought I could just cut that out and use it in my picture. That should not be a problem. What I have learnt from you all is there are so many innovative ideas to do a job. I guess you all get it from experience. I am 74 and I think a slow learner.
  11. @Garyp I shall follow your advice. I know selections are a complex subject. Simple selections are easy but to make a perfect selection with difficult backgrounds are very difficult and require great practice Thank you for your candid comments. P.S. I was using Affinity Photo V 2.2.2005 beta, thinking it will have more features. I am not a tester and am only a hobbyist. I will switch over to the latest commercial release..
  12. Thanks for your suggestions. I am actually trying to teach myself the best way. I have already seen some tutorials on removing the background. they use the channels and then make the selection. I will see some on hair cutouts. In the image i gave I know there are more trees. But actually I am just learning how to cut out a tree with similar branches and leaves. There are more tutorials in photoshop. But the same tools cannot be applied in Affinity Photo V2. Since I am using Affinity Photo latest beta version I am on to it. I saw some latest changes in the version 2 which are there and may help me better in selections.
  13. @Garryp I mean an ordinary tree with lot of branches and leaves. I am attaching a picture. Kindly let me know the best way. I actually want to use the tree in another image. Just one tree is enough. I dont need all of them.
  14. I have seen many videos of affinity Photo and also of photoshop for removing the background from the picture of a tree. I am still not sure which is the best and most effective way. I have seen may using the blue channel layer and the making the contrast more and then selecting it . Can some experts here tell me which would be the most effective way in Affinity Photo latest version v2.0. Thanking you in advance.
  15. Thank you for the information. The keyboard shortcut Shift+ctrl+F works, but I dont find it in layer dropdown menu. This short cut is not mentioned nywhere. Or have I missed somewhaere.
  16. I am trying to figure out some way of fading a patch. Like in Photoshop there is an option to fade a patch. Is there any way to fade the patch selected in Affinity Photo V2
  17. I tried but find it too difficult. Can you give me the steps or direct me to a similar video tutorial. If you dont mind please.
  18. Thanks. I thought of adding a colored pattern shirt and using warp for the folds. I have seen some videos on how to do it. But I am still new to using that tool. I have to still go through a lot. Thanks you for your help.
  19. Thank you v_kyr. I will work on it further. Thank you smadell you have done a lot of advanced editing like split toning etc. which I being a beginner am only just learning. I will try some online AI tools for the shirt. Thank you both for all the help.
  20. I have been trying to repair this very old photo of mine. I have reached to a certain limit, but not quite/ I find that the place where I removed the white patch with gaussian blur is not quite right and the shirt is too difficult for me. Can some one help me in improving the photo. I am attaching both the photos. I have repaired the background, because I intend to cut it out anyway.
  21. Yes I understand I must try it out first before buying. Thank you once again.
  22. Thank you very much for your advise. Just now I am using AF only on a HP laptop without touch screen. I have a android tablet. But AF is not supported. So I think I can go in for a touchscreen laptop as suggested. Ipad is too expensive in India.
