  1. One more detail with "Decimal Places for Unit Types"...

    Preferences.thumb.png.fd74ddca58142a234ed0cc9e3aa11507.png

For example, I've set inches to have 4 decimal points, but the settings are not kept in other places, like in 'Guides Manager':

    1491697138_GuidesManager.thumb.png.07a72615513253456fd3b89076af76ff.png

You can type a fraction like .375, but after hitting tab the value changes to 0.4.

Although internally the value remains the same as what was written.

It's only what it displays that is rounded with 1 decimal point instead of 4 decimal points.

In other places the settings are honored like in 'Document Settings':

I could not find an old post regarding this topic..

But if I remember correctly, someone from Affinity said that they were working on it and that I'll be ready in the next update...

But even with version 1.7.2, the problem hasn't been fixed! :44_frowning2:

  2. After several years of not having Adobe Products in my computers... I had to install a trial version of Illustrator just for this functions...

I had to clean a very large amount of elements in more than 200 files, and the only way to quickly and effectively clean a lot of extra elements was with commands like 'Select Same Fill Color', 'Select same stroke weight', etc. etc.

So PLEASE Affinity!!!... Include this set of commands ASAP.

Did I said PLEASE?? If not. PLEASE!!! :D

  3. Hello there.

May I suggest enhancing 'Zoom to 100%'?

When an element is selected, pressing Cmd-1 should go directly to the selected element..

Just like 'Zoom to Selection', which is nice.. but normally requires two hands Cmd-Shift-0.

I think that's the behavior in InDesing. And If I remember correctly it was also in PageMaker. ( Yes I'm that old ). :27_sunglasses:

As a right-hand person, I tend to have my left hand on the keyboard, and my right hand on the mouse.

    Thanks!!

Quite right. We got our first mac back in 87 or 88. My father had bought it with Pagemaker and Aldus Freehand as DTP software. Coming from photo typesetting, it was revolutionary back in those days but I think if I were to go back to that equipment and software I'd slip into a major depression in no time. I've seen the evolution of hardware, monitors and software. After pagemaker, Xpress became the new standard (personally I was never a big fan), then came indesign and it became the new standard. I' ve tried some alternatives like the new Xpress and even the open source Scribus but I still think Indesign is the best DTP software.

however: I think Affinity is seriously on the right track towards becoming the new standard, not only because of its affordability but because it seems they understand the needs of creative professionals these days. All "publisher" needs for me to switch completely is some debugging and a bit more development. Good work Affinity.

@Franky Drappier, just to let you know: You've described my own story... ( One difference is, that I worked with Illustrator 1.1 instead of FreeHand. :10_wink: )

But everything else is exactly what I've seen over the years, the evolution of hardware and software!!! :1_grinning:

I'm so happy with Affinity's software... That I'm completely free of Adobe's software!!! :27_sunglasses:

Thanks Affinity, keep up the good work!!!

Yes, I know. Please don't take my words out of context. They were in response to a specific statement by another member of the forum.

I'm not trying to take your words out of context.

I just replied to your comment, because I didn't see any 'quotes' or names to other members targeting your comment.

But that was my mistake... I see that you response to a specific statement. Sorry!!!

Don't understand what problem with dpi you have - If I change the dpi of a document vector and bitmap objects will be scaled correctly when I select rescale in the dialog.

Hi Tia Lapis... That's OK only when resizing a document... But, that's not the correct behavior when you want to copy some elements to different documents.

Say I have two Letter size documents ( 8.5 x 11 inches, one with 72 ppp and the other with 300 ppp )... And if I have a 3x3 inches circle in one document and copy it to the other document, I should still have a 3 x 3 inches circle regardless of the ppp's.

The same goes to Text Blocks and font sizes ( in points ).

I've only seen this behavior in Photoshop, and not in Illustrator.

AD does allow us to preserve the physical size of the document and its elements when changing the document DPI in Document Setup. Ensure the document units is a physical unit and not pixel, specify the new DPI, specify "Rescale" and not "Anchor", then hit OK.

    Nope.

This has nothing to do with the resolution of images/bitmaps being transferred over to another document. It has to do with, specifically as mentioned, type size, but also applies to other vector elements.

If I have 72pt type, I want 72pt type when I copy it to another document. I do not want some document-level DPI to muck with it. I'm a big boy and can resize it all on my own if that is needed. If I have a 3" rectangle, by God I want a 3" rectangle if I copy it to another document. Document-level DPI simply should not affect vector elements.

And I am pretty confident to say that if APub behaves in the same way as AD currently does, it isn't going to be a liked “feature” among professional layout people. Nor, if APub ever (and I mean ever) makes way into print establishments and they accept client files from APub, they really are not going to like what happens when a client file was created at 72 DPI and they change it to 300 DPI. Everything, and I mean everything, will suddenly shrink on the page and the page size will remain the same. That's no way for a layout application to behave...and not a vector design application, either.

    Mike

Hi Mike... That is exactly my point!!! Very well described!!!

  9. I just hope that Affinity Publisher will handle font sizes independently of the document's ppp resolution!!!

If I have an Affinity Designer document at 72 ppp with a text size at 12 pt. and copy that block of text to a document with 300 ppp, the text appears really small. ( 2.9 pt. )

And viceversa, from a 300 to 72 ppp document the font gets converted to a 50 pt. font size.

Is that a normal behavior in Vector Apps ??? I've seen it only in Photoshop (pixels) not in Illustrator (vector).

  10. @macCesar, while you're waiting for a fix, why not just do a Get Info on the photo files and change them to Open With…Affinity Photo?  It's a PITA and I wouldn't want to have to do it for very many or for very long but for now, maybe?

Thanks LilleG, I rely on right clicking a file and 'Open With...' to open the corresponding program.

Did you see MEB response?... It is a know issue and they are working on it... Cool!!! :-)

  11. MEB... Me again...

    1. I've created a brand new (Regular) user account. I even change the Region and Language to English UK.

    2. Created 4 new documents, 2 with Designer and 2 with Photo.

    3. All 4 documents shows the Designer Icon and obviously, all 4 open with Designer when double clicked.

So, I don´t know what else to do!!!

    Please help!

BTW... Are you using the same App Icon for the documents??? Don't you think that is wrong???

  12. Hello MEB... Congratulations to all the Affinity Team on the release of Photo... I bought it early this morning!!

I also deleted both Betas from my computer.

But the file association bug it is not fixed.

If I assing an .afphoto file to Always Open With Photo... All .afdesign files will open with Photo when double click.

Then... If I assing an .afdesign file to Always Open With Design... All .afphoto files will open with Design when double click.

At least Icon Preview and QuickLook works again!!

    Any suggestion?
