migrate the entire operating system to a new larger drive without buying a new windows licens is not a smple task.

As an aside to the main topic of this thread...

I've never had any trouble doing that, by simply cloning the drive.  There are many programs that have such a drive cloning feature but I've always used the free version of Macrium Reflect.

Take a photo with someone holding the colour checker...

From the near identical question you posted on the DxO PhotoLab forum, I think, and I stress I think, I could be completely wrong, the questions you are asking are:

    1) can you set the white balance, black and white points be set by using a dropper on a photo of a colour checker card?

    2) can you then pass that colour corrected photo to Spyder software and with that software create a DCP profile that you can then use in Photo 2 to colour correct other images shot at the same time as the photo of the colour checker card?

Is that right?  Are the questions I give above what you are actually asking about?

You can re-install Windows 11 without reformatting the hard drive or losing any of your documents or apps...

Indeed but the Subject line of this thread makes it clear that the Original Poster has a Win 10 machine.  Whether or not it's a machine that can be updated to Win 11 is a separate question.

...because the Windows updater is broken 🙂

In which case, get Windows update fixed so that you can update you Win 10 to version 20H1 or greater onto your your PC.

I don't think this Affinity focused forum will be the best place to ask for help with that problem, you should ask for help on a dedicated Win 10 forum, e.g. the MS community:

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10

Or you could try the forum I use when I need Windows help:

There's no reason you couldn't install it now, and uninstall it when the MSI is available. Unless you had other reservations about the MSIX in general.

I suppose not, especially as the uninstall is (allegedly) clean:

There is zero need for Revo Uninstaller Pro when using MSIX - you are guaranteed a clean uninstall, that's one of the benefits over MSI!

We've had a meeting this morning and decided to offer MSI installers to those people who would like them

Yikes!  I'm stunned!!  Also very happy.

@Mark Ingram Is the gotcha that because it will take time for the MSI installers to be produced, the launch discount price will be ancient history by then?  If so, will the workaround be to buy the MSIX version now (at the discount price), not install it, and then download the MSI versions, for free, when they are released?

  7. A less intimidating option to stitch 'planar motion' is to use MS Image Composite Editor (MS ICE).  This is a completely free utility created by MS Research.  Sadly MS pulled the plug on it and it is no longer available direct from the MS website.  You can search for it and find lots of third party download sites offering it but you need to exercise care, lest you get more than MS ICE in the download.

The safest such third party download site that I know of is the 'Wayback Machine'.  If you read this thread on DPreview:

    https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4574261

you will find links to both the 64 and 32 bit MS ICE installers held on the 'Wayback Machine' severs.

NOTE the links in the DPreview thread are direct to the .msi installers so when you click on them although the page that loads will have a 'Wayback Machine' header the main body will be empty, because your browser will be automatically downloading the installer in the background.

Once the download completes, run the installer.  I can't remember if it creates a desktop shortcut but it will add a 'Stitch using Image Composite Editor' option to the right-click context menu in Windows File Explorer when you have selected 2 or more image files.  If you choose that option MS ICE will open and it's fairly obvious how to proceed.
