    Hi chrisbrowning,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
There's no feature to automate this, however you can approach it in a different way. You can start by designing one spoke then use Power Duplicate to create and rotate each of the fifteen copies so they end up completing the star. You can then add them all (boolean operation) to create a single shape from the duplicates.
Another way would be creating a symbol from a pie - 1/16 of a circle - power duplicate it fifteen times around a center point then build the spoke inside one of them. All the others should replicate whatever you create inside the first one. Note that symbols are only available in Designer 1.5 Beta.

For more information about Power Duplicate please check this video tutorial.

Being subtle is key here. Otherwise it will look fake pretty fast.

    Check.

I like the sun dial thingy. Maybe it can be a 'real' sun dial, based on the GPS + compass?

Also like the clear sans serif font, all capitals, and simple icons. I do miss something but I can't put my finger on it, yet. Just one more element...

I have left Creative Cloud to give Affinity a fair shot.  I used Affinity Photo to do a restoration on this photo.  These are small files, but I think Affinity did some fine work there.

Oh. Got it. In that case, the 5th one -- grey toned photo of some kind of construction site or some such. I think that will show off the content better by virtue of it not being colorful. It's like you don't want the frame of a painting to compete with it by being more busy or colorful. To me that background infers building and activity more than the others. And to make different sections different you can either lighten or darken that bg picture. And the logo will work with the background as it's geometric and the background echoes it without being repetitive. Hope that makes sense.
