[Brush tool doesn't work with adjustment layer]

The Apha was unchecked but I when I changed the Blend Mode to normal it worked.

I am using the Paint Brush Tool

I am presently only using black and white adjustments.

 At present all settings are at 100% 

Not using the blend mode

It has in the past but now doesn't work.

Brush tool works on Background but not on the adjustment layer.
