Not a problem, life is short and we are in a hurry and so things happens..

I just made a screen dump of the performance setting and this time with success!  No idea why it did not work before but it works now.

    Thanks guys!

Good thinking.  I disabled the "enable OpenGL acceleration" and the CPU pegging went away, turned it back on, CPU pegged, turned it off and on CPU pegging went away.

So that is it, that is the cause....  Thank you.

Is Hardware Acceleration checked in Photo's Preferences section for Performance? if yes then uncheck it. This 3D spike could be the graphic card is some being asked to read some non existent 3D information by the code in Photo combined with the graphic card's driver.

This very slow image loading happens with every image.  I've used this program now for a few days and many images, same problem with every image, every time.

Yes exactly....  This incredibly slow loading time is at least for me a "show stopper" for this program which I frankly find excellent otherwise.  It is clearly doing more than loading the image, like it is processing it.  Like I said in the OP, I used Photoshop and Photoshop Elements and they can load these images faster than you can click the stopwatch.
