  1. I'm admittedly new to Photo, but I tried to follow your instructions with some pattern layers and colors. Isolatedly it's an interesting result, but I'm not sure how to connect the dots with regards to using this to "half tone" an existing picture - if possible? Very interesting!
  2. @Catshill @GarryP I think i've found a solution now... It's possible to set general policy in Document Setup ( Prefer Embedded or not). Same is possible to set in Photo. So far so good. However, after inserting an Affinity Photo file, one can go to Resource Manager and "Make linked", essentially turning the just inserted file into a linked file. Ref. documentation... @GarryP I'll have a look at Presets, not something I've worked with before.
  3. Not sure where to find this, could I ask you post a screen shot? As mentioned, I've found this one. But I'd prefer to have embedded be default, but be able to override on a picture to picture basis, if possible. I'd prbably opt to embed jpg/png etc, but link to afphoto files.
  4. Ok, never mind. I actually found out myself 😄 Document Setup => Document => Image placement => Prefer linked Notifications will be shown if the Photo file has been updated since last open (Publisher). Use resource manager to Update, if necessary. Now: my add-on question would be if it's possible to have Prefer Embedded as the default, and then on a per file bases choose between embed or link?
  5. Hi, I'm was working in a Publisher file, setting things up on a page. I needed to include an image from Photo that contained layers, masks, the lot. All good, i just copied the layers from one to the other. Then it dawned on me that I needed to make subtle changes in the imported material, so I had to remove and add layers again (because some editing functions seemingly are not available in Publisher). Is there a way to insert a Photo file (.afphoto) into a publisher file as linked document that would update automatically if I make changes to the Photo file? I tested Place, but that seems to import it once and for all, not a link.
  6. Hi all, I'm trying to achieve an effect like what can be seen in this picture around the pyramid, in particular the clouds / background. It seems like a variation of half-tone, but not with circles but lines. Is it possible to do this with Affinity Photo? Thanks!
  7. I'm only working on one page here at the moment, so didn't see that perspective, but that totally makes sense. Thank you 🙏🏻
  8. Btw, @iconoclast, now that I have you here. Do you have any idea why only parts of the picture is shown in my original picture. It's like there's som sort of ratio involved that I'm not sure where stems from...
  9. Hi @iconoclast! Thank you for your input. Shift-Cmd-W didn't yield any change. But I went all in on trying permutation of your suggestion and... For Mac it's Ctrl-W Just writing it out, in case anyone else is experiencing this.
  10. Hi all, I'm currently working with a page in which I've inserted a picture. I've made the picture bigger than the page, to only have part of it this picture in the final product. I currently see all of the picture, with the margins superimposed on top to indicate the boundaries of the page. Is there any way I can switch to a print / export view, without actually starting those function, so see how the final product will be? You know, where the picture doesn't bleed outside the boundaries of the page? It's much better to evaluate the balance of the page when I only see what actually on it. Also: Interestingly, not all of the picture is shown. Is there some sort of canvas <=> page correlation in play? Thanks!
  11. Correct! Apologies if I'm not using the correct terminology yet, I'm still relatively new to Affinity Photo. I'm trying to make a reusable template in which I can place a photo into an embedded document. After doing so, I want to save the document with a name and then export the slices. Here it would be very convenient if I could include the document name in the slice file name, a la DocumentName-Slice1.jpg But I understand now that it's not a possibility at the moment.
  12. Doesn't seem like, but I wanted to ask here to make sure. File name in path would be convenient.
  13. I just had a look at a few videos (for reference, 1 & 2 & 3, in case someone will stumble on this thread in the future). The first one shows how to use an existing mockup and replace certain parts of it by changing the content of its embedded documents. The second show how to actually create and use embedded documents in a simple way. Also, it shows how to use a guideline to place the image in the correct position every time. The third goes further showcasing displacement. My takeaway here is that I'll have to create the first image, add the image I want to superimpose as embedded document and then change properties like perspective, curves, blur, shadows, blend, color grade etc to make it look correct with the background. Once that is done, I should be able to replace the content of the embedded document for future images. This use of embedded documents is a bit mind blowing to me, I love how reusable it is!
  14. Oh I see. I took mockup more as a "design" before production, not that it had reusable properties. I already have Affinity Photo and have enough experience to be dangerous, but this is a new area for me. Ok, I'll dive into the links! Thanks!
  15. @v_kyr Great input, thanks! I'll be dealing mostly with reusing a pixel/bitmap background and will be superimposing bitmap on top of that. My hope is that I can find some process that make is relatively easy to have the superimposed image align with the background image. Is it possible to make such a "recipe" that can be applied over an over, you think?
  16. @v_kyr Oh, one follow up question, if you don't mind? For the use case and in your experience, which application would you suggest offers best fit and most flexibility to do this in? Photo or Designer?
  17. @v_kyr Ok, "mockup" seems to be the way to go, very interesting. My plan is to take a few base images and hopefully be able to superimpose specific images (logos etc) on top as I go forward. I really appreciate the links, thank you!
  18. Hi all! Not sure how to phrase this question, but I need to make a series of images showcasing different designs on textile. Imagine superimposing design on t-shirts, as seen on several t-shirt outlets. In many such online shops, the designs are not just superimposed, but maybe also follows wrinkles and even angle of the object. Other similar applications would be to show a design (for example a logo) on cardboard boxes. What I'd like to know is, would this be possible to do in a smart way in any of the Affinity applications? Like have a template that allows me to import an image and then it'll wrap around or imitate the object in question more or less seamlessly? If yes, what is this type of process called and are there any resources out there where I can learn how to do this? I imagine this would be something to do in Designer 2, but don't have any experience with this application. Thanks!
  19. Hi! I was looking at this image in IMDB: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0107668/mediaviewer/rm3540350976/?ref_=tt_ov_i I like how they highlight certain parts of the image by making a vertical smudge / "lens flare" based on the color of said part. It seems that there is more saturation and contrast in highlighted areas, to make them stand out more. I'm a beginner with Affinity Photo (v 1.10.6). How would one go about making such an effect in an image in a smart way? Would one go the way of making a mask with X opacity, and draw in the highlights, exposing a more saturated / contrasted layer below? Thanks!
  20. @loukash @GarryP Thank you both of you for your answers. I got it to work now by finding that sweet spot where the dragged layer becomes a child layer. 👍🏻 @GarryPOn that topic, I understand the Lock Children functionality and I do need it, but I'm not sure where to find that function? (or icon) I've been searching the forum and online, and I've only found forums posts describing how it's hidden in certain screen resolutions (not the case here I think) and text description of it. Could you give me a hint? Apologies for omitting the version number in the initial post, will remember next time.
  21. Could I ask you to elaborate on I just tried dragging the background over the name, couldn't reproduce your elegant solution. I have a suspicion that I'm missing the lock children part.
  22. Pretty much spot on and very elegant solution! I'll try this. I ended up with this solution, inspired by a YT video. I did have a feeling that my solutions was a little over designed...
