Auto-Save Not Working
Lee_T replied to awakenedbyowls's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on iPad Questions
Aside from being a limitation of the operating system, I don't think it would make sense anyway. If you enable autosave over the original file, it makes it much easier to ruin your document with no way back, meaning you really have to start saving history with the file which would inflate it massively. At least this way you always have a recovery method. Lee -
Auto-Save Not Working
Lee_T replied to awakenedbyowls's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on iPad Questions
Hi awakenedbyowls, This is an internal save only, used in case of something like an unexpected shutdown, dead battery etc. to save to your file you will need to manually hit the save button in the file selection screen. Lee -
Exporting .exr
Lee_T replied to edlo's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Hi, Would it be possible to upload the file here and give some information on the process you are using so we can troubleshoot further? https://www.dropbox.com/request/QYp5el4NijEwvRnQZuJu Lee -
I can't help thinking you aren't quite understanding the difference between a white balancing tool and a mid grey tool. Mid grey is used primarily for setting exposure, it can be also used for colour balance, but it's primary use over white balance is that it can help you find the middle grey in your exposure range. You cannot do this with a white balancing tool, which is used to ensure the colour temperature is matching the conditions an image was taken in. i.e. if a picture was taken at sunset then the colour temperature would read as approx 3000-4000k and any white would appear warm and yellowish. in the same shot, you could incorporate a mid grey card to show how 50% grey appears in those lighting/exposure settings. This means if you want to under expose an image, you can use the value of the mid grey to raise the exposure up to ensure it looks 50% grey instead of the almost black it looks in it's RAW form. Lee

document repair
Lee_T replied to vpkumar's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Hi vpkumar, This tutorial should help you out, it seems to cover most of the basics for this type of work. Lee -
Would you mind sending the original document and an SVG to this dropbox link so I can take a look? https://www.dropbox.com/request/Ho2trYMhBxu0W9nIxAap Lee

Hi Kevital, welcome to the forums. I'm sorry to hear you've had a problem with this document. If you send us the file here: https://www.dropbox.com/request/BV7fPLalmNBFdE0zJeN0 we can take a look and see if it is recoverable, though we cannot guarantee any timescale or success. Just as a reminder that if you are working on important documents in any software, you should always regularly back up the document/machine. For my own creative work I personally use a service called backblaze alongside iCloud to back up as I like to keep them regular, versioned and off site, alongside a local HDD backup of mission critical documents that I rotate out. Don’t Buy….Buggy, No Updates, Loss Of Work
Lee_T replied to Bowzer's topic in V1 Bugs found on iPads
Hi Bowzer, I can see that you've posted numerous threads/posts with valid feedback and bug reports, thank you. You're correct, it's been a while since out last update but as Patrick states here, Lee -
Hi Flea77, Not sure why it's not remembering that setting, it may be worth performing a basic preferences reset (hold ctrl whilst booting the app, leave all options as they are and hit clear). Though, why not use the export persona? It's designed exactly for this scenario. You can define your exact specification for output and save it as a preset to be applied and exported in a couple of clicks maximum. Lee

Hi srg, Are you sure metal is actually causing your issue? Affinity is a system intensive piece of software and can require a lot of paging data to and from the hard drive. What are the specs of your machine? The 2017 iMacs were still sold with what are now considered extremely slow mechanical hard drives in them, with the average lifespan of a mechanical drive in regular use being about 3-5 years, this behaviour could be a warning sign that you have impending drive failure hence my concern. I would certainly advise backing up your machine if you haven't already. Once this is done it may be worth running the First Aid application on your mac to check the drive, but I stress that I advise that you back up first using time machine or whatever system you use. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT210898 This may not be the cause of your issue, but I would advise looking into it first before we delve into the software itself. There are thousands of ways to create textures and all for different uses all for very different purposes. You can use Affinity to make texture's, for example you could take a photograph of some concrete, and use the affine tool followed by a bit of cloning to make a seamless repeatable texture for a road. You could spray paint on some paper, take a photo and use selection tools to remove the background to make a texture with an alpha channel to allow you to use it as an Asset and drag and drop it over an image to give it a grungy look. Like I say though, the purpose you are making textures influences what type of texture you make how you make it. Of course you can also google around and just find some that suit as well if you like. As above but resetting all of the options after backing up. If this doesn't resolve the issue, removing the software and all of the files/folders in the locations shown here before reinstalling. Lee
