jarombra got a reaction from Ntracks in DXF or DWG file import in Affinity Designer
Yes, I need this feature!

Yes, scripting is a must for any desktop application nowadays -- as long as it's at least planned for the down the road, I am satisfied.

jarombra reacted to Chris B in Is there a way to Protect Alpha (or "lock pixels" as in PS) on a layer?
Hey jarombra,
The iPad version has it on the Paint Brush Tool toolbar, at the end
I assume you may have figured this out by now but hopefully the reply might be helpful to anyone else looking for an answer.

jarombra got a reaction from telemax in More robust *.ai importing, especially when the *.ai is initially outputted from Rhino
Anyone use Rhino a lot and want to replace Illustrator with Designer? If Affinity Designer could simply import 2D exported geometry from Rhino (outputted as either *.ai or DFX or DWG) then I would seriously never need Illustrator again, and that would be a glorious day.
Thanks Affinity!

jarombra got a reaction from Timespider in Live Rotate Tool
I'm sure this has been requested before, but a live canvas rotation tool is absolutely essential for serious illustration work.
Thanks for making such a great product and not requiring a membership!

jarombra got a reaction from RayM4 in [AP] Is a Live Rotate tool in the works?
Forgive me for just pointing to Photoshop as the precedent that we all want to (or at least speaking personally, I want to) get unyoked from, but what I'm referring to is how you can just hit 'R' in Photoshop and rotate the canvas any arbitrary amount. Essentially R + LClick does the live rotate, and I hope AP can add this feature as it is essential for painterly illustration work.

jarombra reacted to redline.wolfgang in DXF or DWG file import in Affinity Designer
First, Affinity Designer is beautiful and extremely efficient tool. I like it!
I am doing design and artwork for front panels / operating panels of electric devices and machines. The drawings are available in DXF and / or DWG from Autocad (trademark). What would really speed up my workflow is the option to *import* DXF or DWG files.
Considering that these files can carry very complex information it would be sufficient to be able import only a single layer file or a single layer of such a file. This contains all mechanical data so I can be sure that the artwork will match the target device.
Adobe Illustrator has this feature.
Export of DXF / DWG files is actually not required for this kind of work.

Hi redline.wolfgang,
Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
Some users already requested support for DXF and/or DWG files.
We are considering adding support for these kind of files in the future.

jarombra got a reaction from Haluke in Digital Painting Absolute Must-Add's
I'm very excited for Affinity Photo to become an "industry standard" digital painting tool, but there are a few things it needs first:
- Color picker HUD (fly-out palette accessible while working on the canvas)
- Customizable hot-key commands
- Live rotate tool
- Canvas flipping hot-keys.
If those four things can be added to the software as it is now, there is no reason for digital painters to keep their exorbitant loyalty to Adobe. I for one am eager to get off the bank-busting CC subscription, and I know that Affinity is the imminent promised land once the aforementioned needs of digital painters are featured in Affinity Photo. Please feel free to add more items my fellow digital painters in this thread. I hope the Affinity staff takes note!

I see what you're saying, but from years of digitally painting experience I can say with some confidence that the bulk of the features in those painting-only applications are not necessary for many professional visual development workflows. All that is needed are the features I've listed above, absolutely all of which fit into other compositing and photo editing pipelines as well.
While many painting softwares tout their sophisticated brush and materials dynamics, at the end of the day all you need is a simple default round brush, and Affinity Photo already has more than enough on the brush front. They just need to ad some basic maneuverability UX stuff as mentioned above. I hope they do - I for one like painting and compositing all at once or at least under the same roof.

Hello!
It's my first post here! Affinity Designer looks very promising, you have done great work!
There's only couple key features thats' missing:
- rotate canvas tool. This is must have feature if you are going to make affinity perfect for illustrators like me who uses Wacom cintiq and intuos. This feature works perfectly in Corel Painter (and pretty well in Sketchbook pro and PS) but there is no vector drawing software with this feature. I mean there's no way to draw naturally if you can't rotate canvas.
- appearance panel (like in Ai). I use this feature all the time.

jarombra got a reaction from LilleG in How can you fly-out a palette on the canvas as with PS?
If there is any confusion as to what I am asking, this is what I'm trying to accomplish (or something similar) in Affinity Photo: a HUD picker.

jarombra reacted to Callum in How do I assign repeat-undo to a new keystroke?
Hi Jarombra,
Welcome to the Forums :)
We only have the Undo and Redo tools, however our Undo tool works the same way as the Repeat-Undo tool. Customisable shortcuts are coming to the App but at the moment you unfortunately can't change them. To increase the history-limit you need to go to Affinity Photo > Preferences > Performance > adjust the slider for the undo limit as far as you like. I hope this helps :)

Hi Jarombra,
Welcome to the Forums,
That is the correct way to open them. You would just open them like you would any other file :)
