  1. Yep, sounds like the same issue. I checked and indeed the actual gradient information is still there (in the gradient editor field), so probably just the offsets/ scale broken for some reason. I don't even see the gradient handles when I select the gradient tool (even, if I zoom out a lot).
  2. Hi there, just something I noticed, not sure if it's a bug, missing feature, or something that can't work by design. I made a nice artwork in Affinity Designer, using bunch of gradient fills (linear), and also transparency fills (linear). I exported the file as SVG and it looks great in Safari and Firefox (no lost features). Next I optimise things with SVGO (https://github.com/svg/svgo) which does its thing and reduces the file size by almost 40%. The resulting file still looks great in Safari and Firefox (no lost features and all gradients and transparency effects are still there). But when I load this optimised SVG file back to Affinity Designer all the gradients and transparency effects are gone.
  3. Hi there, I'm mainly do 3D work with CINEMA 4D lately and I felt that I already forgotten everything I learned about Affinity Designer, so I decided to actually use the just released new version to make something quick. Ended up recreating some flat visuals I saw on the net and put my "own" spin on it. Nothing special, I'm still happy about it. Also I noticed that my main trouble with Affinity Designer is still getting color values from A to B, btw., something wrong with my understanding of the workflow there, I guess.
  4. I didn't check back the whole thread here, so I'm not sure if it was mentioned already… I downloaded all free content and so I also checked out the "tom-chalky-handcrafted-fonts-textures" archive. In this archive separate PNG files are included. Those seem to be entirely uncompressed… requiring usually more than 50 MB, 70 MB, or even more, per file disk space. Running a simple OptiPNG on them will greatly reduce their size (going down to small file sizes of often less than 200KB). Storing maybe around 400MB (for everything from that archive) compared to almost 4 GB will make a noticeable difference on smaller working SSDs. The JPEGs from the other archives also benefit from a bit extra optimisation... not as much though... usually between 2% to 5%... with MozJPEG.
  5. So far that seems to fix things (e.g. the "Symbols" sub window appeared again.) Luckily I didn't lost too much UI layout customisation (I wasn't sure, else I probably would have tried the reset earlier )
  6. Hmmm… don't want to report it as bug in case I miss something... but for some reason I can no longer open extra "Studio" panels in Affinity Designer (just loaded the latest update from the Mac App Store). E.g. if I go to "View > Studio > Symbols" then nothing happens. No new panel appears. Is my screen too small (1680x1050)? If I switch the application into the "separate windows" mode then it works and an extra window for the wanted Studio panel appears.
  7. Sure, you are overwriting (or "extending") the default sandbox the application is allowed to use according to Apple Store rules. Adding the whole root there basically would allow the app to read anything (in the users account context vs. the apps sandbox context which is far more limited by default.) More or less the sandbox gets switched off that way. With the current security landscape this is even something one should properly weigh in regards to Affinity Apps (they could have a bug, crash, and run foreign code when feed with a broken/ maliciously crafted input file, f.ex.) :) While adding the root there sounds like an easy fix (I didn't try it) I would prefer a more limited approach to specific directories (even if that means adding more entries to the list).
  8. But doesn't this defy the idea of sandboxing (aka limiting available resources to specific apps) when I then manually overwrite it, so it can access everything again? No disrespect to Affinity apps meant by this, of course. ;)
  9. I use MagicPrefs (mainly to kill off scrolling in C4D as it usually goes berserk). I disabled it and didn't notice anymore problems in the Affinity apps. I have not reenable it yet to see if the problems come back or not. Maybe that was it. Still strange. :)
  10. Hi folks, when using Affinity (happens with Photo and Designer) I often have problems with odd UI behaviour when "switching" from one element to the next. E.g. I add some filter and now I adjust its settings by moving around the first slider, when I release the mouse button and move to the next slider to adjust the next parameter and click down it will then still adjust the previous slider for some reason. It's really frustrating from time to time. Does someone else experience (or experienced) this behaviour?
  11. In "Affinity Photo" the "Affinity Photo" menu (the first one with the fat title) has an unpredictable/ random menu item layout. The menu lists the different Persons for quick switching, but depending on which Persona is active the menu misses some or all of the items. Because of muscle memory one is bound to click the wrong thing when items and/or their order changes randomly. IMHO the layout should always be fixed and list all Personas in a fixed order. The currently active Persona should be greyed out/ be unselectable.
  12. I never had any non-free version of the NIK Collection. Just to be sure I downloaded the huge current archive from the Google website again and compared it to the version I had already: $ md5sum /Volumes/Backup/Beryl/Installer/nikcollection-full-1.2.11.dmg 49080b166a590701535bdbcb6289d887 /Volumes/Backup/Beryl/Installer/nikcollection-full-1.2.11.dmg $ md5sum /Volumes/Temporary/Downloads/nikcollection-full-1.2.11.dmg 49080b166a590701535bdbcb6289d887 /Volumes/Temporary/Downloads/nikcollection-full-1.2.11.dmg They are perfectly identical. So it's definitely not a problem of an outdated version of the NIK Collection. It must be something else that is required to get this to work properly (obviously some people managed to get it done.) NIK Collection is pretty much the main reason for me to still fire up Photoshop (all my 3D renders are passed through NIK for some extra effect.) I really want to do that in Affinity Photo.
  13. How do you get them to run? I have installed them in Photoshop's plugin path (and use them w/o problems in that application). I added Photoshop'S plugin path in Photo's preferences. All of the NIK plugins show up in the menu, but they all run in demo mode only. Except Analog and Color Efex (the 2 I actually want ;) ). In Photo's settings they are marked in red color with "Requires Global". What does that mean exactly? I guess it has something to do with the OS X sandbox stuff. So I used the "Authorise Global" button and added all kind of paths there (Photoshop's plugin path, the "Google" Sub path, even the ".plugin" folders itself, etc.) But no matter what I try Analog and Color Efex won't show up in the menu at all and the other ones all run in demo mode still. :)
  14. No worries, I was just generally asking "into the room", but I did not want to make a double post or something. Sorry for the confusion! :)
  15. Nope... it didn't appear for me. So this feature to display the download link required access to the internet (which is blocked for Affinity Photo for a long time because the permanent plugin check stuff (which I reported as bug already ;) ). I temporarily unblocked it and then the download link appeared... Yikes... and Affinity Photo did accesses to Google ad/doubleclick and whatever... this is not nice. :( Why was this tiny file not included directly into the App bundle? Why doesn't it show an error when it can't load this additional content? It left me completely in the dark. ... and back on the blocking list again, Affinity Photo! :)
  16. Maybe I'm blind, but I don't see it. And I looked at that screen before to check for it :)
  17. Hi there, just a short question: on the 1.5 Photo website there's word about a macro Bonus Pack that is included in Photo 1.5. But where do you find it? I opened the macro "Library" and there are only 5 simple "Default" macros (Strip Meta, Flip, etc.) in there. Do I miss something? (Affinity Photo 1.5 from the Mac App Store)
  18. Ah… that's where I remember the function from… too bad Photo makes a pixel layer out of it.
  19. Hi, just bored and playing around a bit with Designer to get to know the application better (a good way to kill some time :) ). So… I made this little keyboard (2D) and now I want to transform it into a more 3D-ish shape (like the trapezoid below.) How the heck can I do this? I'm quite sure I saw some perspective transform tool sometime, but I can't find it anymore... but maybe I'm confusing it with another application? When the keyboard group is activated and I go with the mouse to the top middle circular drag thingy I get the option to transform it into a parallelogram, but not into a trapezoid. Help please! :)
  20. I made the backside too, a while ago (wanted to post it here, but then forgot it over the holidays :) ).
  21. Hi, I made this floppy disk with Affinity Designer. I'm still learning (and sometimes my brain can't wrap around things as Designer needs it, so I end up with kludge solutions, I think). :)
  22. Hi, I humbly request an optional toolbar button for being able to switch the grid display on and off (same function as View > Show Grid). Thanks! :) Probably also makes sense to have "Show Margins" and "Show Guides" too (maybe as button group). regards, tokai
  23. That sounds great. I'm definitely looking forward to what still comes. Surprisingly it's often the little things that one got used to over the years that are "missing" rather than the big ones one more easily can live without. :D But Affinity Photo is still a very young app, so I'm not complaining. I'm rather impressed actually. :) Another little thing that could made this step regarding to cropping easier is that when I "Copy"/ "Copy Merged" a selection and then go to "File" / "New" the new document dialog perhaps could have the size of the Clipboard data already set rather than being set to one of the default presets. Then one would just have to Copy+New+Paste and be done too (that's a way I often do in PS too actually.)
  24. Something like "Cropping from a selection" would be really nice to have. Right now I'm also rather stuck with this simple requirement and that's why I came looking here. :) Neither the actual crop function nor the slice function seems to support snapping to the grid (it's enabled in the snapping dialog, but seems to have no effect). With the selection tool that works, but I can't reduce the image to this very selection. Maybe I'm missing something? (trying to adjust my Photoshop workflow to Affinity Photo ;) )
